i just got an imac g3 grape, and was wondering if they could overheat. i know there is a fan, but you never know. i was also wondering weather there is a program like smcfancontrol for os x 10.2.8
View 2 RepliesI read alot of the overheat problems on IMac and tried most of the solution presented here.after i bought and installed the istat menus, i have noticed that it get overheated and get 120c very quickly only when i watch video through browsers, i can watch 5 bluray movies in a raw and it wont pass the 80c but 2 minutes in youtube and it burns, it must say something about the problem..

I am about to pull the trigger on either a booq Taipan Skin S or the Vyper XS2. I have an Aluminum 2.4 Macbook. I usually sleep my MB overnight and when I'm not using it, I usually shut it down about twice a week, but in the mean time it sleeps. Can the MB overheat when it's sleeping in its sleeve?
The only reason I ask that question is because there was a disclaimer on the Booq Vyper XS2 page;

I think they mean specifically for the old white and black MBs, but I was just curious. Has anyone had experience or heard of MBs overheating while sleeping in their sleeves?
And besides that, does anyone have experiences with either of these sleeves? I've heard good things. I'll put it in my backpack, so I'm deciding whether or not the extra $10 is worth it for the Vyper over the Taipan.
Some flash videos and particular sites cause my MBA to overheat and results in choppy playback, but for the most part the temp isn't a problem. Generally the temp is just fine, but as I progress through the video it gets more and more choppy. Eventually it's unwatchable. It doesn't matter how long I leave the MBA to rest/cool (minutes or hours) the playback is just as choppy when I restart.
I'm confused because I thought the playback issue was related to heat
Any ideas? My apologies if I've missed the answer in another thread.
So I got an 07' MBP and I need to overheat, my warranty is up in a month and the store tried screwing me out of a replacement. So I need to make it look legit. So, what kinds of applications will push my mac to overheating?

I bought my MacBook Pro 13" in late December 2011,last month I noticed that my mac has an overheat problem, first I tought it was because I was using Photoshop all the time, so the battery went fully uncharged in like 1 hour or so, and it was hot that it burns... So I closed all the apps, thinking that maybe that will solve the problem, but no! My battery just don't last 1 hour, I go to tech support and they said my mac was ok, everything works fine... But I don't believe them...

Anyway, I have a CD rev A Macbook, that I just installed Ubuntu with. I love it, but I am afraid one day it will overheat and cause my processor to melt. Is that possible? I have heard that if it gets to hot, that the thing will just shut off, but I don't want to take any chances.
currently i have a blackbook and imac core duo, 17 ". My macbook beats the imac in everything except graphics. Before i got my imac i seriously considered a g5 dual 2.0, but the money wasnt there. I see an apple refurb dual 2.0 for 1599, and im sure i cud get one a lot cheaper used here or on another board. How much of a performance increase will i see IN APERTURE going to the PM, if any? i would need a good increase to justify it, and eve then im not sure my parents would be ok with me spending a few hundred bucks to upgrade

In the pic attached is that a iMac G5 or intel. I see spot light on the top right so it's either running tiger or leopard. I thought I saw a apple remote magnetic thingy on the side. The intel iMac was made in late 2006 and the iMac G3 was made in 1999, 1998 or 2000.
i am see if it was a good idea to trade my psp with a bunch of stuff for a g4 imac 700mhz 684 ram (or something close to that). i have a macbook but i want a desktop because i want something to run folding at home on and for a place to dump all my stuff. plus i dont play my psp anymore i did for a little while but now it just sets there. o and i was thinking of letting people use it that like theres computer just died or they want to see what a mac is like. so just wanting to see what people thought.
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy mother's G5 imac is slowly dying. It will not wake up from sleep at all (even hard reset won't work). Her local tech people say it is a faulty logic board. (and the cost of replacement wouldn't be worth it). She can still use it if it never sleeps, which she will do for a while. Can she buy a mini (or I give her mine) and use the imac monitor? She would rather spend as little as possible.

In fact, I wonder, if it's possible to leave the iMac G4 (800MHZ) without a fan, unless I figuered out my problem with the fan connectors. Ok, I know, the fan inside the iMac is not for nothing. But, is there anyone outside, who uses his iMac without a fan?

I'd like to try to restore OS X but if I can't then i'm just gonna install Ubuntu Currently when it boots it just goes to a gray screen with a small folder in the middle with a blinking question mark and Mac OS 9 logo. View 16 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac G4 and it keeps crashing. I've zapped PRAM, bought more RAM, re-formated HDD, installed Mac OS X over and over, I don't know what else to do. Even if I boot it up and let it run, it will eventually crash, but at random times. If I re-boot right after it crashes, it crashes again, but if I wait, it doesn't.

I have plenty of computer engineers and computer savy folk around here to help me with it, but i'd like to know if it seems possible before i decide to start. I have an old g3 imac... that worked until the harddrive was taken out that is... haha. I got it from some old school equipment the were getting rid of. The harddrive and ram were taken out before it came into my posession.
Anyway what I would love to do... is basically use the casing and the screen , but swap out the processor to ATLEAST a g4 as well as put in a superdrive, more ram and a bigger harddrive... Really i'd like to put new components into a g3 imac casing. It would be really great if I could get g5 parts in there but I know that's a long shot especially keeping cost low (idealy would be intel parts, btu as they are newer I know i won't be finding a good deal on any scrap pieces from those)............
My G5 iMac developed problems after upgrading latest updates to Tiger, iTunes, QuickTime, ect.
I am now unable to access apps like system preferences, iPhoto, Safari and others. Also it will sleep but unable to shut down. I'm hopeful a new install of my OS 10.4 disk will correct things but fearful my photos, music and FireFox bookmarks may be lost.
My beloved G5 has been flawless till now.
I had a quick question regarding a mod I'm considering with a G4 iMac 17". Basically, I want to dismantle the original machine and make a new box to connect to the G4's arm and display. However, I remember reading somewhere that the G4's display used some type of proprietary connector and that this would be impossible. Can anyone who has more knowledge on this than me let me know if I can do this? Soldering is not a problem if needed.

It could use a RAM upgrade, though. For some reason, the internal RAM isn't being used. The System Profiler claims the spot is empty. The easy to get to one on the bottom seems to be working fine, but it's a lowly little 256.
I'd like to upgrade to its full potential, but am concerned the problem with the internal might be a logic board problem. Any way to tell?
Should I just get a 2gb stick for the known-good slot? Where can I get one for less than the $87.99 Crucial wants for a 512mb?
