I have replaced many of LCD in PowerBooks and one of the things I noticed is after you remove the aluminum panel there's a little round magnet on the back of the LCD... What is this for? I have also seem a handful of cases where pressure applied to the back panel has caused this magnet to crack the LCD.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a 2010 entry level Macbook Pro and could go on forever about the things I love about it. The magnet in the mag-safe ac adapter, however, is far too strong. Although I would not subject my new notebook to a test to prove this, I highly doubt that if someone were to trip the cord while walking by, the adapter would tear away without pulling my notebook along with it as is intended. In addition, the mag-safe adapter is problematic even when attempting to plug into my computer for a charge. The strength of the magnet often latches uncleanly to the computer causing scratch marks to the aluminum around port. Given how anal I am about keeping my new Macbook Pro beautiful, this is an irritation. What do you guys think? to properly serve its purpose, should the magnet have less strength?

In the last week this has started to happen but upon fussing with the connection like unplugging and replugging in the magnet charger it would start for a while and stop randomly. Now I can not get the computer to charge at all no matter how much I fuss. Do I need a new adapter or is there some other problem?

I've had my 13 Macbook Pro for about a month and have noticed smudges on the keyboard and was wondering the best ways in removing. I've used some basic keyboard wipes from WalMart but they aren't very effective. They get the surface well but it still shows a good shadow of smudge and a reflection where the keys, almost looks like a wear.

When I go to "About Mac" and "More Info" and Storage it is showing "Others" as taking about 170 GB. The only notable software I have installed are MS Office and HP Printer utilities. Any way to check that is eating up my hard disk space?Â

It's somewhat visible.I tried to clean it off but it looks like the "paint" is sanded etc. Should I return it or keep it? I paid over 2k for it, I feel that I should get a good quality machine.I'm thinking about keeping it because it's just a small area that has the blemish and it's not that visible.

I mostly use iTunes, firefox, iphoto, vlc, mail, tweetie, transmission, air video and iteleport, istats all the time. Sometimes use pages and iMovie. I mainly watch tv on it. On iPad I use mail n safari as well as air video or vlc. Thinking of getting rid of the above for MBA 11 base with 4Gb ram plus AEBS attached to my 1.5TB for photos, movies, iTunes. Can transfer latest stuff temp for planes etc like I do on my 16gb iPad.

I booted up my Mac Mini last monday to find for some reason it is stuck in that loading screen which displays a grey background, the apple logo and a round loading swirly sign. I have tried running disc utility and trying to repair it but it dosent detect any errors, I also tried clearing the PRAM according to Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM and still no joy. I've done a total reinstall of OSX and went through an hour and a half of erasing and reinstalling osx from its supplied discs, however still it wont get past the loading screen.
I've used a usb hard drive aswell and tried installing osx onto that to see if it was a hard drive error but it still gets stuck at the same loading screen. I can access safe mode without a problem. I have done numerous hours of searching the web without any luck to a cure to my specific problem. Specs are Mac Mini 1.66GHZ intel duo core 2, 1gb ram, 10.6 OSX (upgraded from 10.5) 100gb hard drive I have also started up in Verbose mode and got alot of info that I don't really understand, I've attached screen shots of where the loading screen gets stuck in verbose upon 4 attempts at booting up the mini.
This is a strange one I can't seem to fix by deleting preferences or anything. On a ''normal'' Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard, in the ''Shared'' part of the Finder sidebar, when you mount a drive a little round gray eject button appears beside it. On one single account on my Mac running Leopard 10.5.8 this strange thing happens where it does not appear--all of the other accounts work properly. How do I restore this? I've deleted the Finder preferences as well as the sidebar preferences, force relaunched Finder.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 15'' 2010 macbook pro that I've only owned for about a month and a half. At first the isight camera worked great,I used it multiple times for photobooth. But a few weeks ago I tried to used it for skype and noticed it just showed a black screen. I thought maybe the problem was just with skype, but I started checking other programs and it's the same in all of them. The green light is on and it's recognized in system profiler, but the screen is black.
A few days after this happened, the problem seemed to fix itself, but then it went right back to the black screen 2 days later, and had been that way ever since.
I tried resetting the PRAM, but it didn't help. Is there anything else I can do, or is it time to give in and take my macbook to the Apple store?
I recently purchased a refurbished 24 inch imac from the noticed when the computer is idle (black screen), my wired mouse does not work. When I pull the cable out of the usb port on the imac, the computer screen comes on and then I reinsert the cable back into the usb port in the computer to use the wired mouse (wired mouse works fine after I reinsert the cable back into the usb port).Could this problem be associated with the wired mouse or with the usb ports on the imac?

But not with processes as much has hard drive related actions such as playing back saved video, loading files in the finder, especially applications, and its been temporarily freezing lately for like 10 seconds. I have also noticed unusually loud clicking noises from the hard drive, which i am pretty sure screams imminent hard drive failure. Do this sound , does 4 gigs of ram make a noticeable difference over 2?

I'm attempting to use 'round robin' DNS to load balance between the two ethernet adapters of an Xserve.Both ethernet adapters are connected to the same LAN and have static IP addresses of 192.168.2.250 and 192.168.2.251.The DNS zone for the server's local domain/host (macserver.private) has a machine record with both IP addresses (set up in the Lion Server UI).Having read up on round robin DNS, I would have expected DNS requests for 'macserver. private' to be answered with the two IP addresses ordered at random, achiving my aim of requests being served at random via each ethernet adapter.
However this doesn't seem to be the case. Doing a 'nslookup' from any of the network clients results in the two IP addresses being listed in the same order everytime. And pinging 'macserver.private' only ever results in a response from the same address.Does anyone know why this is the case? Does Lion Server use a non-standard DNS configuration? Are there any additional settings I need to configure in Lion's DNS server to make adopt a round robin approach to responding to requests?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ibook 10.4. Its my girlfriends she gave it to me to use since my PC broke. She has one of the newer ones. But a lot of her photos were saved in iphoto. So I'm not sure what happened but I restarted the computer and now itunes is reset and iphoto is reset, microsoft word isnt on the computer anymore. Most other files are still there. But I know she is going to kill me for losing all these photos! I bought this digitial picture frame from Brookstones I'm going to put pictures of us on it and send it to her for V-day. It came with a CD to load the software on it. It works with both mac and PC. It was working fine then I went out to the bar for a little bit. I had used the software fine and already uploaded a few photos before the bar. So I come home to reopen the software and its taking forever, the icon is just bouncing up and down. So I restart the computer. When it comes back the dock is larger, itunes and iphoto is reset. WTF happened?! and how can i change it back? I know PC's have that option where you can revert back to an earlier time.

Now when I turn my iBook it loads OSX 10.4 perfectly, then the screen goes black and just before it loads my desktop the screen Flashes Red, Green & Blue etc. I can't change the res back to 1024 x 768.
