Assuming it's the HDD, which I already got a replacement. Can I take out the HDD and install it in an enclosure and run some sort of recovery software? I had alot of personal stuff as well as my portfolio work in there

the HD was broken so I make the change for a new one of 60GB... I dont if it?s formated or not... but MAC format... sure not!I dont have OS X now.. so I?triying to install some Ubuntu for MAC or something that could be installed if is posible to do it by USB... I need this cus I?m felling that DVD do not work properly... or do not reconieze any this to boot that I use...Is some software or free operatin system that could be burned of load by USB to boot this MAC and test that HD is OK and DVD driver?
View 4 Replies View RelatedHave the new 15" MBP with i7 Processor. I had another MBP with a 7200RPM drive and installed drive in the new i7 Mac. Computer was working fine until I installed Windows via Boot Camp. I can't boot to the Mac Partition any more, the partition is there but when you try to boot to it you just see the Apple logo and NO circle. I cannot boot to the install CDs or a bootable external drive. I target disk mode the computer and used another computer to boot using the drive in the i7 unit and it's fine and I can see all the information. I tried booting the i7 into single user mode and saw the following message:

View 3 Replies View RelatedNow I have a problem with my other iMac. I had this problem once before. The first time, I was moving it to connect an ethernet cable to it. I unplugged it, moved it, connected the cable and a mouse, and plugged it back in. I fixed this by unplugging the cable and the computer. Then I plugged it back in and it worked. This time, I moved it, connected the cable, a keyboard and mouse, and nothing, other than a slight light dim and the crt "tink". Now I cannot get it to even turn on. Nothing. I press the power button, nothing. I have tried 3 cables and four different recepticals, nothing. HELP!!! Now both of my g3 iMacs are down....
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an iBook G4 1.07 GHz 30 gb 256 RAM with Panther. It was working fine until my HD got close to being full. Now I can't get it to boot past the Apple screen. It will either freeze there, or move on to the blue screen and freeze before the progress bar enters. I want to re-install Panther but I can't get any CD to boot during startup by holding "C", including the Panther OS CD, the Hardware Test CD, or the Tech Tool CD. I am able to boot to single user mode, where I type fsck -fy, and I recieve no errors with the hardware. I had this issue beore and my HD had to be replaced by Apple.

View 6 Replies View Relatedwhen I went to restart the computer so those updates would take effect, during the start up process, all I continually see is the Windows XP scrolling status bar, I shrugged figuring it had a bit to do and left it to its own devices, and a half hour later returned to see the same scrolling progress screen. (before choosing which account to log into for windows).

View 8 Replies View RelatedAbout 2 weeks ago I overwrited some files on my ibook. Since I had no data recovery software for macs, i used easy recovery pro and connected the laptop hard drive to my windows box.Once I had it connected, windows asked me to initialise the hard drive and without even thinking about it I said yes.I did raw(sector by sector) recovery and managed to find a few files. The problem is that now the ibook wont boot no matter what i try. I have tried using disk warrior and repaired the file system.Also when I start it in firewire disk mode and connect it to another macbook, it will load the partition with all the files inside it. So the files are there but it will not allow me to boot the OS.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter re-opening that giant graphite egg, re-plugging in the cd drive and making sure all of the wires were properly plugged in too, and getting a new kind of hate inside of me for apples quality of construction, I have gotten the disc drive reading again. However it will still not boot off cd.
I just want to upgrade to tiger and it won't let me do so, I can't even find the CD drive in the boot options. but the strange thing is that the os x tiger cd is selectable in the startup disk options, but on boot with the boot menu it does not show up.
is there anything i can do (preferably without spending any money, or very little) or am I stuck with os x 10.3.9 for the rest of my life?
also I'd like to do a clean boot, after all I bought the computer used, and it has a bunch of junk files on it that I'm too lazy to search for and destroy myself.
plus the thing still thinks its named after the school that used to own it, and I'd like it not to.
Got a Powerbook G4 with a "messed up" HD. Couldn't fix it, so got a firewire drive and ran a bunch of utilities from my newer intel iMac. Cloned the Powerbook's drive to a USB hard drive, did all repairs on the USB drive, formatted the Powerbook, cloned the USB drive BACK to the Powerbook, but it just gives me the flashing question mark when I try to boot.
What is REALLY weird is I can boot my iMac FROM THE CLONE ON THE USB DRIVE and it works fine.In Drive Genius the Powerbook drive (in TDM) shows as a single drive, but if I go to "Repartition" then it shows 3 smaller partitions on the drive; I believe they're called "Apple Free Space" or something like that (can't check right now, I'm running Repair on it AGAIN at the moment).
I feel like I'm missing something simple, like the machine just doesn't see one thing that tells it "Oh, yeah! There's an operating system on this drive!" I have tried partitioning from Drive Genius and Disk Utility. Have done clones back and forth with Drive Genius, Disk Utility, and Carbon Copy Cloner. Same results each time.
For the first time ever, my Titanium Powerbook won't load OSX. I was using Excel when the beach ball started spinning. I've had that happen, so I just went to force quit. It wouldn't force quit for me. So I let it sit a while and tried again. Again, it wouldn't force quit. So I tried to Restart the Mac. It restarted, but when it did, I don't see the OSX load screen. I get a blue screen with the spinning lines, but that's it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have currently acquired a few old Macs. I have got an iMac G3 SE with a slot loading drive. The computer is fine all barr the slot load drive - it has died. I have also got a PPC Mac Mini with a suggested logic board failure.
Does anybody think there is a chance i could replace the broken slot load drive in the iMac with the working one from the mac mini? i don't want to start opening the iMac up if someone already knows theres no chance it would work.
two days ago my iBook G4 decided that it no longer wanted to work. Basically it wont move passed the start up screen (the apple logo with the pinwheel underneath) but the problem that I am having that no one else seems to have is that my computer will shut back down after about 20 seconds of the load screen?

When using other PC's / notebooks it all works fine, except my own Macbook. Other browsers on my Mc , have the same problem.

I am looking at purchasing an Ibook G4 but the description of the item includes this:"When you switch it on it begins to load up i.e. the blue screen with the Apple logo, but then the screen goes black or flickers. Said friend has kindly wiped the hard drive for me so now when you switch it on it makes the �opening� noise then you get a blue screen with alternating �?� and the Finder logo."
I have a feeling this may have been a temporary fault with the screen connector being loose and possibly damaged.But i assume the alternating "?" and the "finder logo" is simply a lack of OS?
I have a problem where finder (under any condition even after a fresh restart) does not load the folder contents on my computer. Sometimes it loads after multiple restarts but somtimes it doesn't. I cannot browse through files anymore as nothing appears. Nothing also appears on terminal either. Here is a screenshot.

Under windows machine...it boot normally,but if i put it on G3 and hold 'C',it doesn't boot (but i think it try to read the cd becouse i see a small icon with "face"/"?" on the screen).
View 15 Replies View RelatedMy PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz won't boot up. It happened about a year ago when I first got my new MBP so I just let it sit. But I'd like to give it to a friend if I can get it to work. I've tried resetting the PMU by holding shift+control+option+power... waiting 5 seconds and powering on, but nothing happens. The battery appears to be functioning correctly. When the cable is in it lights up like normal and the battery indicators light up and are in full charge. I've taken the ram out and put it back in. Any other clues what I could try before bringing it in to Apple?
