View 2 RepliesI've got an aging powerpc iBookG4 that came with OSX Panther (10.3)... time's taken it's toll on the old thing and it needs a refresh. Problem is I can't find the install discs, would I be able to use the install discs that came with my intel MacBook? I think buying a copy of Leopard would be too much for it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been given an iBook G4 1.33Ghz 512mb Ram Notebook to repair. The problems seem to be that only a couple of the applications work...the desktop fires up OK. But I can only fire-up Safari..When you double click any other app, they jump up and down, but nothing happens. I was going to format and reinstall everything, but how do I get the required files off the iBook, I can't see any icons on the desktop to be able to "open" the HD to remove & copy files....Within the OS the CD-Rom doesn't mount either....nor any USB Stick as far as I tell, I was thinking of buying an External HD & Trying to install the MAC OS onto it & remove the files from the Internal HD afterwards, Is that feasible.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI have an ibook G4 which connects wirelessly to a netopia router via airport card (under keypad on laptop) Recently came across Evocam and sounds like great software as just what i wanted to keep an eye on my dog whilst i am at work
but the problem i am having is that i can not view this webcam remotely (eg from work) I think i have tried every avenue but no direct help hence my query is being posted here! So what have i done so far:downloaded the 15 day free trial (not going to buy unless it works)got that going ok and interface showed IP and 8080 port clicked on view in browser and hey presto it work - but that is on local "internal" network and wont work over internet - so found out about port forwarding static IP etc so set a static IP which starts 192.168..... and got up router browser and opened/configured port to 8080. - still not working then was told i need my public IP when configuring the IP in the airport network page (sys pref - network - airport) so i did this and again came up fine on evocam interface but then realised I had no longer internet access so had to revert back to the original IP's, sub net mask DSN numbers so i could go online to see what i did wrong which is where i am now.
I understand from other forums and FAQ's that this is suppose to be pretty straight forward but i don't no where i am going wrong so this is my question need help to set up evocam on ibook through wireless and configure airport/ip/router CORRECTLY to make this work.
I have been in contact with evo support team over a number of emails but it all general info i am given and no step by step MAC process (for instance it says go into base station to port map view airport admin untility I go to this but no base station shows up for me to click on or re-configure is it because i just have apple airport card and not base station.I would appreciate it if anyone can help or know the steps i should follow to get this up and streaming my dog while at work
I was wondering whether i could access and control my ibook G4 running panther from my leopard based MB?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 1.33Ghz 12" powerbook and recently it has started to just shut off when the battery is saying it has around a half hour left, instead of it warning me that the battery is low and it will go to sleep soon. and then it won't restart until I plug it in. is there any way for me to fix this besides getting a new battery? This battery is not covered under any recalls, and there is no applecare left on the computer. also if it matters the computer is running 10.4.10.
View 7 Replies View RelatedCan all versions of the iBook G4 12" use PC2700 RAM? Even the 800GHz and 1.0 GHz models? I know you're supposed to use PC2100 in them, but the PC2700 is so much less expensive than the PC2100 right now.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter re-opening that giant graphite egg, re-plugging in the cd drive and making sure all of the wires were properly plugged in too, and getting a new kind of hate inside of me for apples quality of construction, I have gotten the disc drive reading again. However it will still not boot off cd.
I just want to upgrade to tiger and it won't let me do so, I can't even find the CD drive in the boot options. but the strange thing is that the os x tiger cd is selectable in the startup disk options, but on boot with the boot menu it does not show up.
is there anything i can do (preferably without spending any money, or very little) or am I stuck with os x 10.3.9 for the rest of my life?
also I'd like to do a clean boot, after all I bought the computer used, and it has a bunch of junk files on it that I'm too lazy to search for and destroy myself.
plus the thing still thinks its named after the school that used to own it, and I'd like it not to.
For the first time ever, my Titanium Powerbook won't load OSX. I was using Excel when the beach ball started spinning. I've had that happen, so I just went to force quit. It wouldn't force quit for me. So I let it sit a while and tried again. Again, it wouldn't force quit. So I tried to Restart the Mac. It restarted, but when it did, I don't see the OSX load screen. I get a blue screen with the spinning lines, but that's it.

I am looking at purchasing an Ibook G4 but the description of the item includes this:"When you switch it on it begins to load up i.e. the blue screen with the Apple logo, but then the screen goes black or flickers. Said friend has kindly wiped the hard drive for me so now when you switch it on it makes the opening noise then you get a blue screen with alternating ? and the Finder logo."
I have a feeling this may have been a temporary fault with the screen connector being loose and possibly damaged. But i assume the alternating "?" and the "finder logo" is simply a lack of OS?
I have a problem where finder (under any condition even after a fresh restart) does not load the folder contents on my computer. Sometimes it loads after multiple restarts but somtimes it doesn't. I cannot browse through files anymore as nothing appears. Nothing also appears on terminal either. Here is a screenshot.

I installed Perian the other day and decided I wanted to get rid of it. I just dragged the icon from applications as well as the dmg to the bin. Is that the correct method to 'uninstall' something?
After doing that I can still see Perian from the other section in settings as well as if I right click on a video it gives me settings for perian. How do I properly uninstall something and get rid of it from everywhere?
