OS X Server :: DVD Won't Read: / Disc Is Blank Message
Mar 27, 2007
I have a Powerbook G4. Every time I insert a movie into my drive lately, instead of opening into DVD player (like it used to) I have been getting a message that asks me what I would like to do with the blank DVD.
I want to burn an idvd project to a disc and it says it requires a DVD-R but the problem im having is that it will go into the disc slot but after a few seconds it ejects and it will not show up on the desktop either! Does anyone know how to fix this?
All of the sudden my Mac Pro wont read blank CD-R's and blank DVD-R's. It will read burned disc and software just fine. I was burning with these same disc fine a few days ago.
I get this "This disc cannot be used because it is not recognized."
I tried rebooting with no luck! The only thing that I've done to my Mac lately is add a 1 TB External HD (Western Digital) to my mac through the 800 plug.
i have a late 2012 macbook pro 13.3" with latest OSX mavericks installed.I have this issue where when I insert this one blank CD RW into the superdrive, it makes a clicking sound for a while and then stops, and nothing happens(CD isn't recognised) ,CD can't be ejected either unless i restart my macbook .However when i try to insert another blank CD RW, it reads and burns just fine.
I have a MacBook and lately, every time I insert a blank disc, it spits the disc out. I can hear the drive working for a couple of seconds then the disc comes out. The same thing happens when I insert burned disc. I didn't encounter any problem whenever I insert original discs (audio or films). I need to burn a lot of files.
x's:
I've been using the same blanc discs but the problem only came 2 weeks back. Before I can use -/+ r/rw disc with no problems at all. I doubt that it has to do with the discs type
Since yesterday all of my incoming iCloud emails on my iMac are blank, and I'm not receiving new mails. I have a header, but there is no message content. Mail coming through on my iPhone/iPad seems to be OK.
I have Sims Medieval on DVD disc. Yesterday, when I inserted it into my Mac, it said the disc was blank. I have played the game on my Mac before, though I do not think I have tried to play it since I upgraded to Mavericks in March this year. I last had Snow Leopard, and it worked fine.
I did put the disc into a Windows machine today and it recognised that it was a Sims game (dual OS disc) and showed me the files.
I have never run into this type of problem before, and I don't own any other software on disc that runs on only Mac or both Mac and Windows so I can see if it is just this program.
I have found one thread on a website where people have had the same problem, but no one has a solution and they're all moaning about EA not fixing it, when the game came out in 2011 and so I think the problem is with Mavericks, not EA.
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
I inserted a blank disk earlier today. Automatically a hazard icon appeared where the eject icon should be. Now the disk wont come out and there is no obvious way to remove it.
I burned several Data DVD's on MacBook Pro 2009, they mount and are readable on MacBook Pro. On iMac and HP PC they mount as Blank disc's I burned the using Disco and OS X Finder
I have an iMac 27" OSX 10.7.4. My DVD Writer Stopped Working. It Can't Read or Write Any DVD or CD. Every Disc Display As a Blank. And on Windows It Doesn't Show Anything After Inserting a DVD or CD. I Tried All Types of CD and DVD like Audio, Video, Originals, Duplicates, HD , Picture, Music, MP3 and All.
Why is it when I insert a CD into the "slot" does my Mac not read it....it pushes it back out. I have the correct disc, I have verified that several times. I have also checked the System preferences and I have marked ask what to do when a disc is inserted, but for some reason I can't burn or read any discs. I am using a Macbook 10.4.11.
Within the last week, all of our computers have developed a 'bouncing E'! The entourage symbol jumps up and down and demands attention, there is a box saying 'Entourage could not read this .rge file', it never stops, it just comes back every half hour or so. I suspect it has something to do with sharing projects, but we have done nothing differently from normal so can't trace the reason. It's possibly linked to when one person sent an invite to all the others asking them to attend and event but I'm not sure.
It was also suggested it might be because there is a lot (ie up to 10 years in one case!) of email in the in box, but we have been doing some clearing out with no result. I don't know much about macs and am in the dark here, and everyone is blaming me as it was my idea to create a shared diary/contacts list in entourage. Some other forum said to find the corrupted file, but I've no idea where to look or even how to tell that it's corrupt.
I recently bought windows 7 for my macbook to run it with bootcamp, but everytime i put the disc in the driver it keeps on rejecting it. It ended up working eventually but I wanted to know if this happened to anyone else because my macbook can read every other of my CD's perfectly yet for some reason it has a hard time reading the windows 7. I tested the Same Windows 7 CD on my other computer and it works fine. Is anyone else having this problem?
I am having an issue where the superdrive in my BRAND NEW mac pro isn't working correctly. It doesn't read DVD's consistently, System profiler hangs when you click on disc burning and after that the drive does not respond to eject commands. When you do get the tray to open, insert a DVD that is a known good disc, it will "mount" on the desktop then when you click on it, it hangs trying to read the disc. When you right click and select eject, the icon just goes away and the disc does not eject. A restart at least allows me to eject the disc. Resetting SMC has no effect on the drives behaviour. Or suggest a good aftermarket DVD drive?
Ii have a Mac G3 600 mgz 320 mb ram The CD Drive is not DVD Capable. Whenever I put a CD in the drive makes noise then the cd comes out. I've tried the PC reset.
When I play a DVD movie, everything is fine for about an hour and then the drive says that it cannot "Read the Disc". I have had the problem with 6 different DVD's so I don't think the media is the problem.
i want to setup a rules that when a message is added to a certain folder it is automatically marked as read, can anyone help me do this ? thank you in advanced
a friend of mine has some problems with her DVD drive.
It does not accept some video DVDs as it seems, but not always the same, that seems to be varying.
Also there is this strange error message, which I can't get my head around, as NTFS-3G should have nothing to do with CDs or DVDs, as they use a completely different and independent file system. (it's a screenshot of a screenshot by the way.)
She runs Mac OS X 10.5.8 on a 15" Unibody MBP with 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM (early 2009) and has NTFS-3G installed to transfer data onto NTFS formatted drives.
Can anyone give any insight into this?
Or is Praha really a nice town after all the winter geese flew to Karlovy Vary?
I have a message that pops up and disappears before I can get a chance to read it. I figured it may be an issue with an application since MS office 11 is installed and was running at the times also, before a reminder pops up a message appears. I fear there may be a potential issue with the OS or an application.
I'm having some difficulty sending email from my account due to a mail server issue and it would be relly helpful if I could read the error message that drops down and quickly disappears when I attempt to send a test email. Is there any log that captures this so I can read it?
Every time I sign into my Macbook, I get an error message from Automator; "The data couldn't be read because it has been corrupted.". I have never created an Automator workflow. How do I find out what Automator is trying to run and stop it?
In old style view. Every time I touch a message, it turns to read even if I haven't double clicked to "open it". I presume this is because it is previewing but I don't want it to do this. Also, every time I click on "inbox" to look at my messages, the top message in the list automatically changes to read. Again, I haven't opened the email and in this case I haven't even touched it! Can I TURN OFF PREVIEW? I've been looking around but can't seem to do this.
Just bought a new MacMini(my first Apple PC) and when I open mail I get the brief details of mail received but when I click on the message to read the details I get a "loading" sign but the message is not displayed. I have 2 different mail accounts.
I am using my MBA with an old Dell Inspiron laptop (running Vista) for the optical drive when necessary. I've installed software using remote disc with no problems (reinstall of OS, then Sibelius music notation software). I assumed I would also be able to read audio CDs or DVDs using remote disc, but every time I have tried this it doesn't work. The connection is fine, but the MBA is unable to find the data - one message I've had says it cannot find the original source (or something like that!). Does remote disc only work for software? Or might there be a way around this? I don't particularly want to use iTunes on the Dell as it's set up with my wife's account and even plugging my iPhone into it got it all confused.
I have an ibook G3 dual usb which was running Tiger but after an update to 10.4.11 I think it is, was running very slowly and the browser (i tried safari, camino and firefox) was constantly crashing. I have a back-up copy of retail Tiger on DVD as my original disc is scratched and no longer reads.I erased the hdd in hope of a clean install, but when I tried to boot from the dvd it just showed up with the flashing ? I know the disc will boot as it works in my G4 powerbook.
