I Have a power mac G5 2.7 (early 2005?) liquid cooled. It has a ticking sound (like a clock), low level but still audible, can it be turned off? What is it?

I was just working on my macbook, it's the newest macbook avaible and i got it from my school. Then once i heard a strange ticking sound, sorry if my english is not so good i'm living in holland and did't had a long time english lessons. so i shut down my laptop immediatly and tryed to start it up. but after bootup then a white screen appears. Normally the apple logo shows up, but here it doesn't then you hear that ticking sound again it's really weard. i hope that i can solve this problem myself if i cant then i can bring it to the laptop-docter at our school so that's also a possibillity but i want to make my home-work in the holiday so i hope that i can solve this problem myself.

ok the issue is that I'm constantly hearing the ticking or clicking sound from my mac mini. Could any tell me what could be making those sound?
So my mac was acting up, no sound from iChat and Spaces wouldn't function properly.
So i restart, the Mac pro gets o the normal point of turning off the display before the spin up sound, but instead this ticking sound occurred. This had a repetition at about ever 3 seconds.
So i quickly held the power button and shut down the Mac pro. I powered up the system and all seemed fine.
Has anyone ever ran across this before?
I bought my iMac last month (Late-2013 model) and notice some low/small "tick-ing" sound came out from the bottom section of my iMac i guess. I often hear that when there's no other sounds in my room. It happened whenever i scrolling down web page on Safari or when doing some graphical process on Photoshop, scrolling Dashboard and other graphical-related task.

I have an iBook g4 that is just totally messed up. The menu bar at the top does not show up except for the right side(sound,clock,power). Also, whenever I click on an application on the dock the icon reacts, but never starts the application.
I wish I could give more information as relates to the specs, but I can't access any services.
Sometimes when I try to turn on my power mac G5 don't work. I have already changed the inside battery and also trying to reset the pmu. The only thing that works always is to disconnect the power cord from the back some minutes.

I have a 13" 2010 MBP. When my headphones are plugged into the jack, and no sound is being outputted, the headphone jack seems to "turn off". If I want to do something that outputs a sound, like emptying the trash, there is a 3 second delay from when the trash is emptied to when the sound is played.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe other day my friend gave me his old macbook saying that it was broken and would only turn on sometimes. I have had this computer for 2 days and it has never turned on yet. He kept the hard drive so the machine does not currently have one. He also could not find the Mac OSX install CD, so I don't have one either. The battery is fully charged (the lights on the bottom of it are all on) and the light on the adapter is green. When I push the power button, nothing happens. No lights, no noise, nothing. I called apple and they told me that without a hard drive, the only way to test it would be to boot off of the Mac OSX disk by holding "c" when the computer is booting. The problem is, 1, I don't have a disk, and 2, how am I supposed to hold the c key while the computer is booting if it will not turn on? I have tried everything it says on the apple website and have tried it with different ram, with and a usb hard drive plugged in.

I was working with a Power Mac G5 when this strange thing happened. I had pulled the CD drive from the machine to test out a problem with a new Mac Book computer(door wouldn't open on eject command). Discovered that that we had a wiring problem (I was using the bottom connector not the top). So I go and put the drive back into the Power Mac, turn it on & the only thing on my screen is a small square icon with a picture of the North & South American hemispheres on it, flashing. Can anyone enlighten me as to what just happen & what I can do to fix it?

My Macbook, I have just become aware that the light for power on isn't on, nor does it pulsate on standby. Everything else seems to be working normally, so I can live with this. But could this be a symptom of precursor of a more serious problem elsewhere?

Why is it when the machine powers down, there is a very noticeable click from the power supply? This happens when it shuts down or goes to sleep mode. Before the Mac Pro, I've always built my own system and none of the OEM PSUs ever did this.

my iMac won't turn on. The day before yesterday happened the same thing, but after a few tries with the power button, it eventually turned on - and all ok yesterday. Both the day before yesterday and today, the general power was turned off for some minutes, but the iMac wasn't running. So now, I've tried to reset the SMC, removing everything attached, but nothing.
At least I can clearly hear the tic tic tic button, probably of the timer, because I set up a schedule to let it turn on at a certain hour. What can I do? It's a white iMac, never had a problem.
I have a mac OS 10.3.5, PowerPC G5. The sound does not work. I have restarted the computer, played with sound settings, made sure all speakers and headphones are unplugged. When speakers or headphones are plugged in the volume works fine, but when they are not in, I can't hear the thing.

At first glance, this seemed to be an application problem, but two different applications that do similar things are effected by it, so I'm guessing it's more my Mac than the utilities. I have a 5.1 speaker system attached to my G5 via digital out. Switching between internal and external speakers is a PITA (go to System Preferences, etc.). I'd come across Rogue Amoeba's SoundSource, allowing me to switch right from the menu, and all was well. Until it wasn't.
After working just fine for a long while, it suddenly stopped. No explanation--selecting Digital Out didn't switch anything. Tried different things, including a complete uninstall and reinstall of the app, nothing. Ditto after going from 10.4-->10.5. Figured it was one of those things and gave up. Found an alternative utility: PTHVolume, which does something similar, but in different ways. It doesn't even SEE the Digital Out. The Mac OS X Sound Preference Pane works fine, though. What could be wrong that third party apps don't work with the Digital Out?
I've reset the PRAM (because of a totally different issue, actually) but that didn't change anything. Run Diskwarrior to no effect. Repaired permissions, nada. Deleted com.apple.soundpref.plist, no result. Deleted com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist and com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist and that made the Sound preference pane disappear, necessitating a reinstall of 10.5 (but other than that, it didn't do anything).

I can't get any sound out of my G5. I've checked all my settings, and they're correct (I believe). I have a Texas Instruments built in sound card (TAS3004). I bought the machine a year ago used (it was a demo) and it's never had sound since I set it up.

We just updated our G5s here at the lab (QuickTime and Garageband ), and now the sound output is extremely distorted and crackly regardless if its a video on cnn or a song off iTunes. Tried Zapping the PRAM and repairing permissions, even reinstalled QT from the standalone installer on apple to no avail.

I have an early 05 PowerMac Dual 2.3 machine that's making some intermittent clicking noises over the last few months. There's no pattern - sometimes it happens every few minutes, sometimes it won't happen for hours. The clicking sound is loud - and is accompanied by, what I can only describe as, a bit of a buzz sound. At first I thought it could be my HDD or superdrive, but I think the click is way too loud. Now the question - is this my power supply getting ready to give? The machine does not fall in the range of the power supply repair program. I'm already in the process of adding a second HDD to clone my main drive just in case.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor a while now, I've been getting a strange whine out of my mbp core duo right above the power button. I don't believe it's the common "whine" others have complained about as I've tried brightening the screen/turning on the camera. Tapping on the case will stop the sound for a bit, but it soon returns. The sound comes and goes, but in incredibly irritating.
I have a sample here. You may need to turn up the volume to hear it. Yesterday I replaced the right side fan, but the sound is back. Now I'm thinking it's the speaker, but don't want to spend more money on parts unless I'm relatively confident of the problem.
I have logitech speakers set up with my MacPro, and there is a steady stream of static noise coming from the computer. It's not the speakers because I have tested them with another device. It's definitely coming from my desktop. The strange thing is that if I restart my machine it goes away for a bit. But it starts back up as I open programs, browse the web, etc.
