I have a Dual 2GHz PowerPC with the stock video card (ATI Radeon 9600 Pro) and have had a Dell 2405FPW monitor connected to it via DVI cable and it has worked flawlessly for a couple of years... until this week.
Now the image seems to be "off" by about one or two pixels. Just a bit blurry here and there and when I move the mouse across the screen, the entire screen image seems to shift a little bit.
I've tried power cycling, re-connecting the cable, unplugging everything, resetting the monitor settings in the control panel, factory-reset of the LCD settings..

Is something like this decumented? I can still see everything on the screen, it's just extremely tinted green, and it's like that since the moment it boots up, even the first grey startup screen is green. I've tried calibrating

My power went out while I was using my iMac today. I was wondering if this could have caused any damage to the computer and if I have to run any utilities etc to investigate?
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe other day my friend gave me his old macbook saying that it was broken and would only turn on sometimes. I have had this computer for 2 days and it has never turned on yet. He kept the hard drive so the machine does not currently have one. He also could not find the Mac OSX install CD, so I don't have one either. The battery is fully charged (the lights on the bottom of it are all on) and the light on the adapter is green. When I push the power button, nothing happens. No lights, no noise, nothing. I called apple and they told me that without a hard drive, the only way to test it would be to boot off of the Mac OSX disk by holding "c" when the computer is booting. The problem is, 1, I don't have a disk, and 2, how am I supposed to hold the c key while the computer is booting if it will not turn on? I have tried everything it says on the apple website and have tried it with different ram, with and a usb hard drive plugged in.

This was working fine through a dvi-vga adaptor until I switched the monitor resolution from 1920X1080 to 1360X768 which is not supported by the monitor .....blank screen. I plugged another 19" monitor into the other output on the card and both work fine but as soon as I remove the 19" the 52" reverts back to the unsupported mode. I have reset the pram and tried booting in safe mode but that did not help me. From bootup the 52" works fine until just before the login screen, then it switches resolution......blank screen. Would anyone know where these settings would be housed in OS 10.5.1 so I can modify (delete) them?

I was working with a Power Mac G5 when this strange thing happened. I had pulled the CD drive from the machine to test out a problem with a new Mac Book computer(door wouldn't open on eject command). Discovered that that we had a wiring problem (I was using the bottom connector not the top). So I go and put the drive back into the Power Mac, turn it on & the only thing on my screen is a small square icon with a picture of the North & South American hemispheres on it, flashing. Can anyone enlighten me as to what just happen & what I can do to fix it?

My Macbook, I have just become aware that the light for power on isn't on, nor does it pulsate on standby. Everything else seems to be working normally, so I can live with this. But could this be a symptom of precursor of a more serious problem elsewhere?

I've been wondering about this for some time now but never took the time to ask. Why is it when the machine powers down, there is a very noticeable click from the power supply? This happens when it shuts down or goes to sleep mode. Before the Mac Pro, I've always built my own system and none of the OEM PSUs ever did this.

My father owns one of the original G5s, so its power pc not intel. Today while browsing an excel spreadsheet he says part of the screen turned black, then the monitor shut off, then the monitor came back on but not video. Mean while the fans started spinning out of control. Now when he tries to turn it on, he gets power, but all that happens is the fans spinning faster and faster and faster until he turns it off. No video or anything. Just speeding fans. He fears the CPUs died since they control the fans. Any suggestions? He also says the fans were spinning unusually fast these last few days.
View 6 Replies View Relatedmy iMac won't turn on. The day before yesterday happened the same thing, but after a few tries with the power button, it eventually turned on - and all ok yesterday. Both the day before yesterday and today, the general power was turned off for some minutes, but the iMac wasn't running. So now, I've tried to reset the SMC, removing everything attached, but nothing.
At least I can clearly hear the tic tic tic button, probably of the timer, because I set up a schedule to let it turn on at a certain hour. What can I do? It's a white iMac, never had a problem.
My background desktop image varies depending on whether I'm using the external monitor (clamshell, 1900x1200ish res) or the internal monitor on the macbook. Is there a way I can get it to just stay with one image?

When I connect it to my TV (Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P46G10 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV), the image is bigger than the screen, tried to switch resolutions with no success. The connection is minidisplay port to HDMI.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to install several PowerMac G5s with the same image. All the PowerMacs are the same vintage, and two of the four seem to work just fine. The other two have the same issue.Â
I created a model machine that's suitable for cloning: installed and updated all necessary software, configured system settings, and then used Disk utility to copy the model system to a read-only disk image. I then used the Disk Utility application to prepare the system image for deployment by Scanning the Image for Restore.Â
I then restored the image to hard drives with Disk Utility. I placed in the four HDs in the PowerMacs. Two of the PowerMacs booted without a problem, the other two won't boot to the restored image. I tried holding down Option key when booting, and option to boot to the drive never shows up. Also tried resetting the PRAM, but that didn't work either.Â

I just bought a Samsung XL2370 monitor to hook onto my MBP 15".
Problem: the image is pixelated and blurry green. I can slightly see the background though. Screen works fine on a Windows pc. Before I hooked up a 19" on my MBP and that also worked.
I tried the menu but no luck. And when I choose the auto adjustment a message appears 'not available'.
I've hooked up my Macbook Pro 2009 to my external monitor and everything works. The issue is the mac image on the external monitor is cut off like I can't see the white top bar. Any solutions to fix this issue?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a acer 22"Widescreen monitor connected to a G5 Dual thru the DVI port on the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro card. Last night while opening windows &/or scrolling thru info. The monitor would blink and then POOF the windows disappear along with everything else on my desktop including hard drive icons! (the top menu border was still there, I don't remember if the dock survived)
After this happened a couple of times, a couple of restarts and letting it sit for an hour or so, I found that if I touched places on my desktop, randomly, the items that would normally occupy that piece of real estate would become visible. The phenomena hasn't happened today but I'm trying to isolate any problems before they become unfixable.

I just got my dual 2ghz G5 that I bought off ebay. I love it. Anyway, it has a 64mb Radeon 9600 Pro with the two monitor ports. I plugged my 22" Samsung into the DVI port. I want to buy another identical monitor for the other port, but it looks different. I found a graphic that shows the card's ports: [URL]. The top one in the graphic is where I put the connection. The bottom one is different. Is there an adapter or something? Or since I'm using two non-Apple monitors, should I just get a new card? BTW, I just bought and installed Leopard.

I have the white MacBook. 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
I want to have an external display for the laptop so I have a bigger monitor to watch videos on when I stream them from the internet. I was just wondering how big can the MacBook go without slowing it down or over working the machine? Will I notice a difference in the operating temperature and speed when there is an external monitor hooked up?
Also, does anyone have any recommendations for monitors? I went to the apple store today and there monitors they had were too expensive for what I am looking for so I will probably be going with HP, LG, or Samsung.
Why is my ADC monitor not turning on after I put my G5 to sleep? I am running an adaptor to my G5 from the ADC monitor (DVI to ADC).The screen usually runs fine when I reset the monitor or turn it off but as for when I put it to sleep, no such luck..This has happened once before and last time I just waited and randomly turned it on a couple days later and boom, the screen booted up.I have tried basic options, like resetting the computer several times, pulling the power cable out of the G5 for several minutes and even a PRAM reset but nothing seems to have made it work as of yet.I assume it's within the G5 as it has happened a few times and the monitor works fine when I test it on other computers..Also as I mentioned before this is not the first time it occured and it just randomly seems to come on whenever.

Recently broke my monitor and need to find a cheap replacement asap. I know that you need something that has the right adaptor to plug in but it doesn't really matter if it's apple, acer, etc. My question is does anyone know of a cheap monitor for the time being that has the right adaptor for the powerman g5?

I already tried it with a small flat screen TV which works fine with my MacBook Pro but couldn't make it work with the G4. I only need the G4 for a SCSI slide scanner that I use occasionally, and would love to get rid of the monstrosity of a monitor that came with the G4. I've updated the processor in the G4 to 1 GHz and run it with OS 10.5.8.

As the title asks, really. Is it safer for an iMac to be shut down from a power cut whilst turned on, or whilst sleeping? We tend to get a power cut once every couple of months.
