I scanned the posts and didn't see this question, but honestly I didn't read all 20K + messages.I bought in late 2005 a dual 2.3 G5, about 6 months before the Mac/Windows combination came out. Does anyone know if I can upgrade or is it too costly to do so compared to buying a new machine.

Is there an upgrade beyond 10.4.11 to Leopard 10.5 that doesn't require an intel-based mac. I bought Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and it tells me that I need an intel based mac. Will 10.5 leopard work?

I have the Power Mac G5 Dual Processor 2.0 GHZ, with 3 GB of RAM, but I would like to upgrade but this model only has four slot, not 8. On the logic board, I can see little holes where the other 4 slots are meant to be, but obviously they aren't there. Is there any way to upgrade this G5 so it has 8 slots, rather than 4? I haven't found anything about this on the Apple Discussions, or MacRumors.
View 7 Replies View Relatedis it even possible to upgrade an old dual core powermac g5 to a quad core or even an 8 core.

I bought a PCIe eSATA card for my Mac Pro and have installed it, and the system sees it and I'm able to install drivers, but disks aren't showing up when i plug them in.
There is a 4pin power connector on the board as well, but I think that's just so it can power external devices via the 2 power plugs it has on the back.
Are there extra 4pin power cables inside the tower, or a place for me to plug some more in?
I have a Powermac Dual G5 @2.0ghz, with 8gbs of ram, and 2 1tb drives running the latest version of 10.5. The problem I have is that I have 4 LCD monitors that I was using with my PC. I swapped that out with my mac, and while I am no novice, I didnt take into account that I cant just put any AGP and PCI video card into the system. What I need to know is if I can use two PCI video cards both with Dual Monitor outputs, and if so, which cards should I buy, and where? I found some video cards on ebay that are PCI, and it is quartz extreme compatible, but I am unable to use it with the AGP card already installed. The person selling the cards was unable to answer whether or not two of those cards could be used together. I only have about 75 per card to spend. Please help, I cant go on using this awesome machine with only one 19inch LCD. and I cant afford to buy new monitors
View 1 Replies View RelatedWell my desktop just crapped out on me and I really don't want to invest money to rebuild it. I was looking at the IMacs but my one concern is about gaming. I really only play WoW but I also want the option to maybe play something newer. I am a little concerned with Macs lack of video cards and in order to get at least 512mb I have to spend 2k. Do macs not need that extra video power?

Apple did not have anything for this model listed under the popup menu selection "Select Printer Software". The driver for printer was written for classic so I can't install it from the CD.

So I just got hold of a few of these new battery chargers from Apple and I'm just wondering if these are meant to stay plugged in the wall, even after the green light goes off. Does the light going off mean that the batteries will no longer draw power from the power outlet and that it is safe to assume power will continue to be consumed? Or is it preferred that I plug and unplug the charger only when needed to avoid any, unnecessary, extra power consumption?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a weird issue this morning. I started computer and it did not make the chime sound, it didn't do anything at all. I disconnected it from the extension cord as well as all the peripherals attached to it and nothing. I tried a different start up disk and again there wasn't a sound. Then i unplugged it and reset the SMU on the mother board and air sprayed the computer to remove all dust. Then plugged it back and it came back on.

I'm just going to order a new Mac Pro and noticed that it was slightly cheaper to order the base dual processor model and buy the 2.93GHz hex cores myself. A couple of questions arise:
Will my AppleCare still be valid or will I have to keep the 2.4GHz Xeons if I need to return it to Apple for any reason?
Is there market for the 2.4GHz processors?
Can I upgrade to the 3.33GHz processors or will this not work?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI took the mac plunge this past week and so far I'm loving OS X. I would eventually like to upgrade the stock 250gb to a 640gb, and install the kingston 40gb ssd drive into an optibay as the dedicated boot/app drive. First, for a dual ssd/hdd system, putting the ssd in the optibay is the correct strategy right? What is the best way to attempt this switch?
If I replace both drives at once, I'm screwed because I need the optical drive to install os x, correct? So should I install a OS onto the 640 first, and then install the ssd? I'm also relatively new to time machine, so I'm not sure what its capabilities are--will i be able to only back up my applications? In the end, I'd like to be able to boot from the ssd and store videos/pics/etc in the HD.
I just installed 8 gigs of ram on my mid 2009 13 inch macbook pro. OSX recognized the ram as soon as I rebooted but the windows partition still says 4 gigabytes. Am I forgetting something or is windows just... being windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am posting this here as well as in the Logic area, to try to get some help. I am desperate, as i can't work. In Logic Pro 7, I can't click anything in the right pane of the bounce dialog box. I CAN select PCM, Mp3 etc. on the left, but get no response from the mouse when trying to change the sample rate, interleave, dithering etc. on the right. I also can't click the flip-box to select different packages in the Loop Browser. I haven't noticed this happening in other applications. DOES ANYONE READING THIS KNOW HOW I CAN GET SOME HELP FROM APPLE? I am told i can't even buy apple care because my computer is too old. I don't know what to do. Tried trashing prefs. Not running any failed audio units. Nothing new in software update. Don't really know what else to do.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a Mac Dual g4 desktop computer at work, and it won't turn on. We've always had troubles with a sticky button, but it usually comes on after a couple tries. Just before I had this problem, we had tried to switch to an older startup, which gave us trouble, so we went to restart the computer and that didn't work either. Have been reading through discussion posts etc to troubleshoot, tried switching out the power cord and PMU restart, no luck. Unfortunately don't have a keyboard with a power button... What now?
