Power Mac :: Can Use A Flat Screen Monitor With G4
Apr 15, 2012
Can I connect my Power Mac G4 (model M5183) to a modern flat screen monitor? I already tried it with a small flat screen TV which works fine with my MacBook Pro but couldn't make it work with the G4. I only need the G4 for a SCSI slide scanner that I use occasionally, and would love to get rid of the monstrosity of a monitor that came with the G4. I've updated the processor in the G4 to 1 GHz and run it with OS 10.5.8.

I just bought a very expensive Mac box, wide-screen flat monitor, printer, you name it, and I need SOFTWARE! I have searched the trial-ware sites, and many of the types of programs I need say "WINDOWS ONLY", or, "NO MAC VERSION AVAILABLE". Is there a place/site that specializes in Mac software that I do not see?

The Dell SP2309W 23" Flat Panel Widescreen Monitor with WebCam is only $300, seems to good to be true. Is it a good monitor, in the same league as the HP LP2475w or the Apple 24" LED display?
I can definitely live with the 23" and can't believe it's only $300.

Do not want a nuisance to escalate into a serious problem thru benign neglect. Random black screen -- Turn monitor off then on, and all comes back fine. No loss of power in machine, no fan quirks, no overheating. Is it the Monitor? or the graphics card?

I am having trouble connecting my macbook to my flatscreen tv. I bought the appropriate vga adapter and cable, but once connected, I only see my desktop picture on the tv screen-- none of the folders on my desktop, and doesn't pull up my internet screens either. Do I need to click something to go into "tv mode"? I was hoping to play dvds from my laptop, or even my netflix play on demand movies.

I have an iMac i7 27" and I have a nice 32" flatscreen I'd love to use as a secondary monitor to watch videos while I'm doing other stuff on the imac screen.
What the best connector to achieve this with the highest resolution possible?

I'm trying to connect my Mac (OSX 5) to a flat screen TV. To do so I just bought a USB 2.0 to HDMI ® Display Adapter w/ Audio (1920 x 1080). The mini CD containing the DisplayLink software drivers that came with the unit won't fit in my Mac CD drive. I then tried to download the correct driver from the DisplayLink website, "DisplayLink USB Graphics Macintosh Driver" which appears to be appropriate for OSX 5 (at [URL]).
This proceeds through the installation steps, then bombs out with the error message that "The following install step failed: run preinstall script for DisplayLink software. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." In the hopes of finding a compatible driver, I looked for an earlier version of the driver on the DisplayLink site, but couldn't find one.

I have a G5 Quad with an Ati x1900 graphics card running into a 52" Samsung LCD. This was working fine through a dvi-vga adaptor until I switched the monitor resolution from 1920X1080 to 1360X768 which is not supported by the monitor .....blank screen. I plugged another 19" monitor into the other output on the card and both work fine but as soon as I remove the 19" the 52" reverts back to the unsupported mode. I have reset the pram and tried booting in safe mode but that did not help me. From bootup the 52" works fine until just before the login screen, then it switches resolution......blank screen. Would anyone know where these settings would be housed in OS 10.5.1 so I can modify (delete) them?

I have a acer 22"Widescreen monitor connected to a G5 Dual thru the DVI port on the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro card. Last night while opening windows &/or scrolling thru info. The monitor would blink and then POOF the windows disappear along with everything else on my desktop including hard drive icons! (the top menu border was still there, I don't remember if the dock survived)
After this happened a couple of times, a couple of restarts and letting it sit for an hour or so, I found that if I touched places on my desktop, randomly, the items that would normally occupy that piece of real estate would become visible. The phenomena hasn't happened today but I'm trying to isolate any problems before they become unfixable.

I just got my dual 2ghz G5 that I bought off ebay. I love it. Anyway, it has a 64mb Radeon 9600 Pro with the two monitor ports. I plugged my 22" Samsung into the DVI port. I want to buy another identical monitor for the other port, but it looks different. I found a graphic that shows the card's ports: [URL]. The top one in the graphic is where I put the connection. The bottom one is different. Is there an adapter or something? Or since I'm using two non-Apple monitors, should I just get a new card? BTW, I just bought and installed Leopard.

I have the white MacBook. 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
I want to have an external display for the laptop so I have a bigger monitor to watch videos on when I stream them from the internet. I was just wondering how big can the MacBook go without slowing it down or over working the machine? Will I notice a difference in the operating temperature and speed when there is an external monitor hooked up?
Also, does anyone have any recommendations for monitors? I went to the apple store today and there monitors they had were too expensive for what I am looking for so I will probably be going with HP, LG, or Samsung.

Why is my ADC monitor not turning on after I put my G5 to sleep? I am running an adaptor to my G5 from the ADC monitor (DVI to ADC).The screen usually runs fine when I reset the monitor or turn it off but as for when I put it to sleep, no such luck..This has happened once before and last time I just waited and randomly turned it on a couple days later and boom, the screen booted up.I have tried basic options, like resetting the computer several times, pulling the power cable out of the G5 for several minutes and even a PRAM reset but nothing seems to have made it work as of yet.I assume it's within the G5 as it has happened a few times and the monitor works fine when I test it on other computers..Also as I mentioned before this is not the first time it occured and it just randomly seems to come on whenever.

Recently broke my monitor and need to find a cheap replacement asap. I know that you need something that has the right adaptor to plug in but it doesn't really matter if it's apple, acer, etc. My question is does anyone know of a cheap monitor for the time being that has the right adaptor for the powerman g5?

Thing is I got hold of a 1ghz 17" iMac almost for free, it had a dead logicboard (I checked it with a voltage-meter), but I figured I could fix it and have a small hobby project-thingie going on. Well I just got a new logic board today, for a 1ghz 17" iMac g4.
Things is I only get a bright grey screen from my Mac when I boot. I've tried connecting it to a external display and that works fine. Everything is there.
I then reinstalled Tiger on it, with the computer connected to my external screen. And I still have the same problem. (I have now disconnected the ext. screen and is controlling the iMac from my MBP). So at least it isn't the installation.
So what is the problem? I can via an Apple Keyboard control the brightness on the blank screen, which would indicate that it does react to input of some degree.
I've read that if the inverter is dead or anything else is dead, you would get a rolling grey screen, flicker or something like that and not a steady bright grey. One thing I'm thinking is. What if somehow this logic board was for a 15" 1ghz imac g4? Can I check this?
I read that long thread about guys buying hi-res displays for their MBPs, and they had to replace some display profile? Could I maybe fix it with a different display profile-file?
I'm really confused by all this, and would appreciate any help I can get.
Model: PowerMac6,1
CPU-Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
and
the gfx chip is a GeforceMX4 with 32mb.
The display is a mode 9c27, manufacturer 610, serialnumber 00000, manufacture date: B84D7200.

As the title asks, really. Is it safer for an iMac to be shut down from a power cut whilst turned on, or whilst sleeping? We tend to get a power cut once every couple of months.

I received a 27 LED apple/mac monitor --not the 2011/12 version though.I want to use with my work computer--a dell laptop. I can't seem to find the right adaptor to connect the two.I need a dvi port converter that also connects to my vga on my laptop (so need the male end of hte vga since my laptop has the female end).I only found 1 adaptor but it ends with a dvi on a vga. I don't have hdmi on my laptop either--tried that adaptor as well when I couldn't see on the pic when I ordered that it was hdmi not usb). Please help. I have read so many blogs that say it can be done.

I have a Quad Core Mac Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I've been having this issue for the past couple of weeks. Basically I have my monitor set to turn off after after 15 minutes of inactivity, my Mac Pro is always on. After 5 minutes of inactivity my screensaver comes on and stays on until my monitor turns off. When I move my mouse to wake my monitor, sometimes an image from the screensaver appears onscreen for a few seconds and then disappears when my desktop appears.
I have repaired Permissions, rebuilt my drive using Disk Warrior, installed the 10.6.4 Combo update but the issue remains. An image from the screensaver doesn't always appear when I turn on my monitor, this issue is sort of random. Usually my desktop appears right away with no static image from the screensaver.

I just bought myself an entry-level MBP 13". Coming from PB 12" 1.5 ghz, this is a major upgrade for me, and I am happy about it. However, there is one thing that I cannot figure out.
I have been a happy user of Dell 2209WA, which works perfectly with my PB. Today, I connected the monitor to my brand-new MBP via Mini DisplayPort to VGA adaptor. After connecting it, I closed the machine and woke up using my mouse. Immediately after that, the monitor said "Entering Power Saving Mode." I clicked the mouse, then the picture was sort of blurry. Then the monitor kept on entering power saving mode... As for the picture quality, even after I opened system pref. and detected the monitor, it was still not good. I'm totally bummed, because I really like the monitor.

I have a Dual 2GHz PowerPC with the stock video card (ATI Radeon 9600 Pro) and have had a Dell 2405FPW monitor connected to it via DVI cable and it has worked flawlessly for a couple of years... until this week.
Now the image seems to be "off" by about one or two pixels. Just a bit blurry here and there and when I move the mouse across the screen, the entire screen image seems to shift a little bit.
I've tried power cycling, re-connecting the cable, unplugging everything, resetting the monitor settings in the control panel, factory-reset of the LCD settings..

I recently restored the default Leopard theme files after uninstalling a theme via Magnifique. However, I noticed that my transparent menu bar no longer has a gradient, though the menu bar has a gradient if I turn off transparency. I have re-enabled Core UI and transparent menu bar. I did another restore of the Leopard theme files using the iLeopard uninstaller. I have attached a screen clipping. My menubar is on the left. What it is supposed to look like is on the right.
How do I restore the gradient for the translucent menu bar? Is this done by setting an environment variable? I found this article:[URL]
Apparently you get a flat menubar if you disable transparency manually. Is there a similar way to restore the gradient when you re-enable the transparency?

The new flat white keys are getting dusty. With the old white keyboards I was able to pull each key, put them into a suck and throw them into the washer machine and that was it But, can I pull this keys? And they are so easy to leak any cleaner to the inside and loose the entire keyboard. Any suggestions for cleaning? Other than covering the keys with some plastic protector.
