Power Mac G5 :: Computer Won't Stop Talking To Me?
Dec 5, 2007Either I hit some sort of hot key or my computer is now possessed by a Speak and Spell. Everything I do is spoken by my computer. I tried going to the Speech section in the system pref's but that isn't helping. How do I turn this off?

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Power Up / Computer Suddenly Turn Off
Aug 20, 2014my Macbook Pro is not powering up, Yesterday I connected a camera that has the USB cable with the little transformer. And the Computer suddenly turn off!  It´s not working at all... I really don´t know what happened..These are some of the characteristics of the problem:Â
1) Not even the battery Light its on when I press the Power button.
2) Not even the Light in front of the Mac is on when I press the Power button.
3) There is not even a sound of the cooler fan or anything.
4) When I connect a the power cable the first 10 seconds the light of the cable is off... Then it appears a little "Orange intermittent" light but nothing more happens.Â

Nov 13, 2010For a while now I've had a recurring problem that I can't figure out. The buttons on my mouse will suddenly stop working; I can move the cursor around the screen, but the mouse buttons (all of them, plus the scrollball) do nothing.
It's not a problem with the mouse (so it might not belong in this forum), because I've tried other mice and had the same behaviour. I don't know if there's a pattern, but I think I've only had the problem since I've started running the new Football Manager 2011 game.
Applications :: Network Setup Would Suddenly Stop Working?
Feb 15, 2009I have had my iPhoto library on a USB drive attached to Time Capsule for some time with no problems. I recently upgraded to iPhoto '09, and still had no problems, so not sure that's related. The library updated ok, and I played with Places and indexed some Faces over more than one session, no problems. Upgraded iPhoto on all the macs and tested their access to the library ok.
Suddenly now, none of the network macs can open the library. iPhoto launches with no pictures visible and has a spinning beechball. I have to Force Quit iPhoto. Same on all macs.
I then copied the library from the networked drive locally to a mac, and iPhoto could then open it perfectly ok. So I guess the library is not corrupt either.
Any ideas why this network setup would suddenly stop working?

Feb 8, 2010I restarted my MBP to install some updates and when I started working on it again I noticed that the trackpad gestures had stopped responding. This has happened to me before but I have no idea why. I know that when I reboot it again, that they will start working again, but it's annoying to restart everytime the gestures stop working.

Mar 20, 2012I may have 2 or 3 Tabs open and decided to open another, example Amazon. I start to look around and 'say' I want to find a CD cover to make a copy of to paste onto something, I find said CD and then all of a sudden nothing works, no hyper links, zero. The only way I can them to work again is to copy the present page I am on, open a new Tab, paste the link in and all works again? But the not the original Tab. Plus if I try the 'ctrl _ T/pad' to open the options you then get (to then copy subject for one) nothing, yet I tried this in Google Chrome just to test and see if that works and it does. As I was even writing this everything suddenly stop, could not even 'highlight' some of the text and copy (cmd + C) .........

May 21, 2012I'll be using my Macbook Pro and the screen will suddenly go black (but still dimly lit), my music will stop, and I can hear that the computer is still "on". I have to press the power button to shut it off and turn it back on. Usually it comes back on slowly and is fine. Just a few minutes ago, the same thing happened, however the screen went blank white instead of black. The music stopped, and the computer was still "on" but I couldn't do anything until I turned it off and back on.

Dec 20, 2009Sometimes while using computer, the entire keyboard and trackpad suddenly go completely unresponsive and I can't do anything. The only button that works is the power button. It's so annoying because I have to do an emergency shutdown and I hate doing that. Is there any relief?

Jul 26, 2008I have a PowerMac Dual G4 @ 500mhz that has issue with waking up from sleep. Running Tiger 10.4.11 with a fresh install of it on there. 512mb memory populating all 4 slots. I've verified permission, verified the HDD via disk utility. I've also run MacOSXmemtest that I purchased and that came up clean. I've also reset the PMU. When I wake the computer up from sleep it will usually wake up to a display and then the mouse and keyboard work momentarily (USB MS keyboard and Logitech Mouse) and then I'll get the beachball of death. The mouse and keyboard will then stop responding completely. I have to manually restart the computer but it seems to work great if it doesn't go into sleep.

May 29, 2012There was an electrical storm last night, and it may have fried some things for me, even though everything was on a surge protector.My G5 suddenly has no video. It booted, chimed, and had a white light on the front. I could hear emails coming in, etc. But NO video. I rebooted multiple times, zapped the PRam, and what I'd get is about a half a second of video (grey screen and Apple logo) before the monitor would pop back to black. I swapped in a different monitor I had and rebooted. I then had a normal reboot, but everything on my monitor is tinted blue.I took the old monitor and tried it out hooked up to my iMac and it's definitely dead. Have you ever heard of a video card failing, and everything turns blue?

IMac :: System Crashes Suddenly Like Power Failure
Sep 6, 2009My IMac crashes sometimes very suddenly, like in a power failure. It doesn't force quit or shut down, it just goes like somebody pulled the plug. It's usually possible to start it up again after 30minutes or an hour. The plug and lead seem to be fine. I tested it on another mac. The obvious suspicion would be overheating, but how can that be caused so suddenly (and how can I fix it)? It's an IMac Intel core duo, 20", 2 ghz, 2gb ram from 2006. I'm running Mac OS X (10.4.11) 2006.

Mar 2, 2008I've had my macbook for about 15 months. i noticed a while ago it had trouble turning off completely when running only on the battery. then a few weeks ago it shut itself off and wouldn't start up again. the power cord indicator was orange, but nothing worked. ordered a new battery, that didn't help. tried a different power cord - nada. i took it in to an apple repair shop and they said something about the internal power connector (i'm not a techy) and took 2 weeks to repair. i've had it back 3 weeks now and the same thing has happened. only this time there is no indicator light on any of the power adapters. and my partially charged batteries do not work on their own either.
any ideas? i don't want to keep fixing the same thing and every few weeks it keeps breaking again. i mean, what's the point in having the computer then, right??
MacBook :: Power Cord Suddenly Stopped Working
Mar 3, 2012I was charging my macbook. It was charging when I left, upon my return, after about 30 minutes, I found that the light was no longer green. There was no light on at all. I tried restarting multiple times. There are no stuck prongs in my power cord. I tried different outlets. I tested the outlet to verify it worked. My computer will charge fine with other power cords, but just not the one I want it to use? Is there anything else I can try before purchasing a new cord?

My 2006 MacPro shut down suddenly and would not turn on. I use an APC UPS plugged on a power surge outlet. The Mac technician who examined the unit suspected it might be the power supply but Apple may not have in stock the power supply for the Ist Gen MacPro.

Jul 8, 2008I've noticed recently that my screen brightness will suddenly increase or decrease by itself. When I press one of the control buttons it indicates that it is 3 or 4 steps higher or lower (obviously allowing for the fact that pressing a control button moves you one step anyway!) I have the 1.8 SDD. I love the machine....but anyone have any ideas about this. It only happens under battery power.
