OS9/OS8/System 7 :: Convert Dmg To Img On A G3 Running Mac OS 9.2.2?

Apr 21, 2012

My G5 is in an Apple shop, and I'm running Classilla on my desktop G3. Classilla says I need FlashPlayer on some websites. I found "flashplayer8r42_mac.dmg" online. But DiskCopy v 6.4 will NOT convert that file to an img file, despite what I have read. Also, "DMG2IMG" seems not to be available for Mac OS 9.

Do I have to wait to get my G5 back before I can convert the file to an img file that OS 9 can open?

OS X :: Delete EFI System Partition - Convert GPT Back To MBR

Apr 12, 2009

I converted a 500G External USB SATA hard drive from MBR to GPT no problem. It could be done using either Vista 32bit or WinXP 64bit the conversion under XP Pro SP3 32bit was not possible maybe because diskpart was still an older version and not updated to a newer version. My work on the Mac is done now and I want to convert my drive back to MBR so I can use it with windows. I've erased and then deleted all the partitions I had created on the drive. Using WinXP 32bit and Disk Management I see only one big partition (465.76 GB Healthy (GPT Protective Partition)) Using WinXP 64bit and Disk Management I can see there is a 200Mb EFI Systems Partition followed by 464.44 Gb of Unallocated space. How do I get rid of this EFI Systems Partition that is stopping me when using diskpart to convert to MBR?

My sister bought a second hand Mac Book Pro. According to Mac Book Pro specs. this unit should have had a 250G - 320G Hard Drive but someone had replaced with a 120G before she got her hands on it. My assumption then is that theywhoever it was that switched the drive must have also replaced the DVD drive at the same time as well........................

how I can convert my old IMAC from "dial up" to go on the internet as high speed? I have an ISP provider for a more modern computer that I own, but I really would like to use my old IMAC on the internet as well? How can I make it compatible with high speed internet? If I try to go on line, the internal modem "dials up". How can I change that and cause it to communicate with my external high speed modem?

MacBook Pro :: Using W7 System Image To Convert Virtual Machine To Bootcamp?

Jun 19, 2010

I'm taking an opportunity that just came up to upgrade to a 15" i7 Macbook Pro and wanted to run something by the community here. I currently run Windows 7 under Parallels 5 only and would love to convert to a bootcamp so I can run Windows 7 under both Bootcamp and Parallels. I know from my research some say this is impossible.

But I just thought of something and thought maybe someone else tried this. Windows 7 has a backup/restore feature that can make a system disk image. So I was thinking of trying that. Uninstalling the Parallels tools then creating a disk image. Then making my Bootcamp partition and copying my disk image created earlier onto that partition.

What about general maintenance, what do I need to do to make sure everything is running in tip top shape? I am still new to Macs so please let me know.

MacBook :: Running Hot Due To System CPU Usage?

Jan 18, 2009

I've been monitoring the CPU temperatures on my 2 week old alu macbook frequently, and it always hovers at ~42 degrees celsius. However, today something odd happened, all of a sudden the computer was getting noticeable hotter (the fans remained off though), when I checked CPU temp it was up to 72 degrees. I checked with "Activity Monitor" and nothing was using up more than 2% CPU. Then I saw through iStatPro that system CPU usage was at 40%. What the hell? Its usually at 2-5%...i.e. always. After restarting, the system cpu usage was back down to 2% and the temperature slowly dropped back to its norm.

Mac :: Mac Pro 1,1 Running Very Slowly After Crashing The System?

Aug 19, 2010

a few days ago i unplugged a USB cable from the back of my MacPro 1,1 and the screen turned all blue (like an overlay) and the machine crashed. Since then the computer has been running extremely slow? it takes 15-20 minutes to start up (if not more) and once booted, every action is delayed as the computer is "thinking". I can type about three letters into a search box per minute as an example. The machine has moments of clarity where I can open a window or start launching a program, then to begins to pause again. The machine as of now is unusable. I have been able to get the process manager open and did not see anything unusual.

OS X :: Convert Mac System Drive To Regular Media Drive - Without Formatting?

Jan 8, 2011

I have a Mac OS X install on a hard drive which I've removed from my system due to installing a new SSD with a brand new install of OS X. I'd like to use the old 500GB drive as a storage/backup drive, but the file system/all my data is still intact on the drive. This could be useful as I want to keep all my data and would save me having to copy across to another drive, format the entire disk and then copy it all back.

I'm just a bit worried about what to do with the system files that were on there... can I just move all the files I want to keep out of the usual Mac home folders and then just delete all the system folders as if they were never there? Or do I have to re-format/re-partition to get the most out of the 'new' media drive?

PowerPC :: Power G4 / Loading Running System

I am done with PCs as my PC died on me again....for the last time. I am a total and complete Mac newb and need an older Mac system, as I cant afford the new ones. I see the Power G4 being sold on Ebay all the time but with no operating system. My question is: How hard is to install the operating system if I were to purchase an older G4 and....the software....what should I buy? Where to purchase it? If I purchase an operating system off Ebay....how do you know it is for real and not a pirated copy? Take it easy on me guys....I am a newb with my first post. I had a guy off Craig's List who going to sell me a system...but never to be heard from again. Now....I like the looks of the old G4 and hope to learn more about them....to the point of owning one. I have read that the Power G4 is a nice machine and runs well.

After I did that I feel like my Mac runs slow. I was thinking if it doesn't get better I might have to do a clean install.

MacBook Pro :: System Running Hot - Blow Dust Out

Jun 21, 2010

My MBP 5,1 has been a rock solid machine save for a flaky optical drive, but it had been getting extremely hot, especially while gaming. I mean >90 C hot. So today I opened it up to be greeted by a colossal amount of dust and fuzz. Took it outside and thoroughly blew it out; then removed some enormous dust bunnies from each fan housing with a toothpick. Now it's much cooler; I can game all day and never peak above 80 C even on the 9600m GT graphics. So, if you've had your MBP a while and it's running hot, blowing the dust out might do the trick!

MacBook Pro :: System Running Slow And Sometimes Crash

Aug 2, 2010

I have a MacBook Pro 17 inches (early 2009) with 2.8 GHz C2D and 4GB RAM on it. My OS is 10.6.4 and have all the latest updates installed. I have used this computer for 10 months and now it becomes so slow. I did all the stuffs that may help to speed it up (repair disk permission, repair disk, uninstall unnecessary software, only one user account, get rid of startup items), but none of them seems to work. I even went to the genius bar, but the genius there said there is nothing they can do. They suggested me to upgrade the memory to 8 gig. It will cost me at least 300 bucks to do that!

Don't want to invest that much on a old MacBook Pro. But the thing is, I have a lot of friends using MacBook that has only 1 or 2 gig memory but their computers are still way faster than mine. They can open a lot of programs at the same time but I cannot. If I do, the computer gonna be really sluggish, and sometimes crash. I also don't think it is the problem of the free space on my hard drive since I have a 500GB hard drive and 80GB free space on it. I have already tried to reinstall the system and restore it using time machine backup.

OS9/OS8/System 7 :: How To Print Stuff From Old PowerBook Running OS 9.2.2

OS X V10.7 Lion :: System And All Applications Running From Flash?

Jun 19, 2012

i would like to install my system and all applications on flash drive. I have seen those SSD kit I can install [URL]... but was wondering if I could simply install and run from SD card, would save me from replacing my optic drive).

Basically I would like my system and all applications running from Flash, while all my Medias would still be saved on the hard drive. That way, my daily work (Mail, Calendar, IMovie, Photoshop, Safari, ...) would run extremelly fast and when it comes to watch a movie and look at pictures (which i shouldn't be doing at work anyway...) it would read from my hard drive and then have the "normal" speed.

For Info, I have an early 2011 Mac Book Pro 17", 2.2 I7, 4g of Ram, basic configuration)

It seems pretty easy in my mind to set it up that way, but it might sound too easy... and wondering why apple never actually made it that way in their machine. Because lets face it, that would be awesome !!!

So... millions of question here. First is it possible ? is and SD card reliable enough to run all day long, every day ? I would have to use an expresscard Adapter, would that make me loose speed ?

I will also upgrade to 8g Ram.  again seems like a cheap way to get the dream computer, so there might be something I'm not aware of.

MacBook Pro :: System Running Slow - Need To Clean Install

Sep 13, 2009

So I upgraded to Snow Leopard about a week ago, and my Macbook pro seems a little slower and it beachballs now and again. I am wondering if I should do a clean install of Leopard and use that for a while, until SL is updated a few times, or maybe clean install and then put SL onto that. Which do you think is best? My other questions are as follows:

I was doing TimeMachine backups when I was using Leopard, and these have carried on when I was using SL. If I clean install, will I be able to choose just to copy my files over from the TM backup? Is there a way to do a clean install of SL, or do I need to do the Leopard install and then upgrade to SL again.

IMac :: System Running Incredibly Slow - Reinstalled 10.6

Aug 4, 2010

Recently I started suffering pretty bad from color wheel load time where safari was getting glitchy and taking forever to move. I tried to cold start it to see if a refresh would help. Well it white screened, and wouldnt exit the loading screen. I reset the ram memory with alt ctrl p and r; this did nothing. Eventually I kissed all my music projects and logic pro 9 good bye, and reformatted from the boot disc. When I went to use it, I got out of the white screen, but was ridiculously slow.

Thinking maybe I didn't do the partition right, I reformatted again, erased the entire drive, set the partition, and loaded 10.6. Any time I open safari, it gets glitchy, and incredibly slow to the point I cant even restart. I cleared the memory again and this still did nothing. I purchased and installed new ram; still nothing. Coming from windows a reformat usually takes care of things. I have no idea what I can do at this point. Its a 2007 24" 2.4 ghz 2gb RAM.
