OS X :: W97 Marker Virus Infects Every New Word Doc Create - How To Cure
Oct 14, 2009
After some trouble with sending word documents trough Entourage I discovered that my boss' Macbook with OS x 10.4 and Word 97 has a W97.Marker virus problem. Identified this to [URL] and ClamXav.
Every new word document I create on this computer will be created with the Markervirus in the document as a default. I thought this was impossible since supposedly the Marker virus was meant to be PC only thing.
Furthermore, although this problem started exactly two weeks ago ClamXav is identifying the virus in a large number of older files as well. Can the Marker really infect 'dormant' files that are not in use? And moreover, is there a way to 'cleanse' the older infected word documents?
is attached to word documents. a friend rid it from my husbands resume which he was trying to upload to monster. there doesn't seem to be a program to get rid of it on a mac. so everythng i open just gets infected on my 3 machines. other than taking it to a pc and running the program my friend had, is there a (program) that will allow me to get rid of it? i know it doesn't affect my machine but pcs will not take these docs. I don't work in word, just use it to open client documents and copy into quark.
I've searched the forum for answers and have only found a few dating back to 2006. Recently I opened a Word document attachment on my MAC sent from a PC user. Now, I am being asked to enable/disable macros when I use WORD. I sent out an attachment that I created and PCs are stating that a virus is detected: W97m.Thus.
It seems that every word doc I create has a self generated macro virus embedded in it and when I go to email it as an attachment GMAIL doesn't allow it to be attached.
I also get the warning window about disabling Macros when ever I go to open a word doc on my MacBook Pro.
How do i alleviate this virus from existing docs without destroying content and also rid my laptop of future issues with this virus.
some of my Word documents are infected with a macro virus. I'm not sure how many are infected, although I know it's not all Word docs. I'm running Office 2004 for Mac Student and Teacher Edition. How can I fix this? I'd like to prevent other docs from also becoming infected. I have no anti-virus installed and I'm still running Tiger 10.4.11 (hoping Apple releases Snow Leopard soon so I can finally upgrade).
how to create a form in Microsoft Word 4.0 on the Macintosh Classic? I need to create a specific template to match a multiform I need to print on my ImageWriter II.
I'm trying to insert an organizational chart into an existing Word document that has track changes. I went to SmartArt Graphics, and clicked on Hierarchy, but everything is grayed out. This document is originally from a PC.
Together with my MBP I also purchased a MiniDisplayPort to DVI to hook up my external monitor. The graphics on my laptop are really sharp, especially with the glossy screen. Yet, for some reason, the graphics on my Samsung-monitor are extremly blurry. Compared to the MBP my 22" Samsung 226 BW seems to be very unsharp and lacks colour.
I have a corrupt quicktime camera file.I think its something as simple as it didn't get the end of file marker. It was recorded on a Contour camera that hit the end of the memory card.I can open the file and play about 75% of it through VLC (the end of the file crashes VLC), but no quicktime or other related programs I have will even try to open the file.

According to the FCPX 10.1.2 User Guide (pg.153) a thumbnail pin associated with each chapter marker allows to select the image that will show up in the exported menu for that marker.
Well, after adding the chapter marker I find the pin in the timeline, I move it to select an image but: 1) nothing changes in the FCP X viewer, which does NOT show the selected image, and (worse) 2) in fact nothing happens in the exported movie: Share/Export File (added) with Format: computer, Video Codec: H.264 Faster Encode, Resolution 1920x1080.
The export fully works, all chapters are there in the right position, but each chapter is associated with the frame under its marker, NOT the frame I selected for it using the pin (which lays ignored on the frame I chose...).
Well: almost "fully" works: it can be played only by Quicktime X, not Quicktime 7. Not a big issue. And probably this has nothing to do with the pin problem... Is there a way to make it work as in the user guide?

I drunkenly spill wine on my brand new 15" MacBook Pro and get convinced by my (also drunk) girlfriend to submerge the entire thing in plain white rice in order to magically suck the moisture out.The thing won't charge or power on three days of "drying" later. I came across one guy's post that completely taking the laptop apart (guided by an intricate YouTube video) and cleaning the internal components with a special alcohol would solve this nightmare for me. My question:Should I fess up to Apple (who I have ProCare with) or see what an independent repair
when I'm recording/playing a track in Garage Band, I would like that when the "current position" marker reaches the end of the visible area, the view moves to the right so that I can still see what is currently being played.
I finally did it... After a lifetime of Windows I've leapt from the Dark Side and am LOVING OSX... the combination of Spaces and Expose alone will save me countless hours!
I just got the VGA adapter to connect my spangly new MBP to the large monitor I used to use for my PC (no DVI capability on the large monitor, Acer x223w). Now however, I'm getting a strange and inconsistent problem:
If I connect all the cables and then power up, both my large monitor and the MBP screen appear slightly but infuriatingly blurry (see screenshot, left-hand side). If I power up MBP without connecting my large monitor and then 'hotplug' it (connecting the cable while everything is turned on), the blurryness is mostly cured - see screenshot right-hand side. The screenshot is from the same monitor in the two different states.
My girlfriend downloaded a bunch of programs and I noticed her Windows installation was a lot slower than when it was fresh. She has an antivirus program called "Uniblue RegistryBooster" and I was wondering if that was a reputable antivirus program or something malicious.
Macbook Pro (2014) when I work with Microsoft office, Word, and use the "command v" keys the entire Word doc freezes and I need to reboot entire computer. What is this?
I start Microsoft Entourage, the software opens at least 17 windows and sometimes more. When I click on the upper section of a window in Safari, or Word, the window folds to the dock and when I click on a word, the entire word is selected.
I want to create a disk image of a Mac drive (.dmg file).I figured that it might not be a good idea to try and image a live disk, so I unmounted it (the user dragged the disk icon to the eject icon), and I confirmed it was unmounted by looking at /Volumes. To be clear here, this isn't the boot volume, that is /dev/disk0./dev/disk1 is an internal drive - as it happens it's the original drive for this OSX 10.4 G5, AND /Volumes/HITACHI is the mount point for an external USB drive.I have tried this twice. On both occassions, things seemed to go well, but after a few minutes (about 10 - 20 minutes), I observed that the target file on /Volumes/HITACHI stopped growing, then a bunch of unpleasant stuff started to happen:
* I did lsof /Volumes/HITACHI/MacHD_20120201.dmg and found the PID of the diskimage binary, ps waux showed it was doing nothing (CPU% was 0.0). This indicates a stuck process to me.
* The hdutil command stopped producing '.'
* I could not cancel the hduitl command
* I could not rm the MacHD_20120201.dmg file
* I could not ls the /Volumes/HITACHI directory
* unlink also hung
A little further into this, the Mac became unresponsive. I observed that the disk was now mounted again (grrr!). As a work around I switched the USB drive off and on, and Mac came good - all my terminals started to respond, the GUI responded for the user.My workaround has been to use CCC to make a clone of the disk - but I don't like this because I think .dmg files are much more convenient (for a start, now that I've used CCC I can't use the USB drive for anything else).
* Is my methodology wrong? Do I really need to umount the /dev/disk1
* Can you disable finder from automounting an internal hard drive (I am particularly interested in this)Â
I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.7 i am working on Word 2008 for Mac, version 12.0.1 (080305).
My problem, i created one text box in a document, somehow 2 more appeared. I made the mistake of thinking that to delete the extra text boxes, i simply highlight them and delete them. Silly stupid me, nothing that simple exists and i have wasted an hour trying to figure it out. The help button does squat, barely gives you any info on a text box much less trying to delete it. Does anyone know how to delete a text box in a word document?
i'm looking at moving over to the Mac in a couple days and i just need to know the best free Word Processor that can open .doc files. 99% of my docs made in Word are of the 97-2003 variety and not 2007's .docx.Â
My university wants us all to use RTF files. As I am sure you all know text edit sucks. But it automatically opens all my RTFs.I have to manually get word to open them which is a pain in the ass.How can I fix this so that all RTF's are automatically opened by WORD?I am still on the old version of word because I have to use ENDNOTE - which has no support for Word 2011 right now. I have a copy of 2011 sitting on my desk and I am itching to use it, but I will loose 200+ citations if I do.
Perhaps this has been answered before but nothing turned up in my search. I'm a Mac convert switching from MS XP, where I was using Word 2007. Over time, I compiled several special dictionaries. If I switch to Office 2008 for Mac will I be able to transfer these from Word 2007?
I understand that Word for Mac does not ahve VBA support, therefore no macros like in Word 2007. Does office 2008 (Word) have some sort of macro capability.
I have a MacBook. Last week I bought Microsoft Office for Mac. I would like to open documents sent in Word to be opened in Word. But my mac converts them to Pages.
Info: MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Microsoft Office for Mac
I have some Word Perfect (I think) files extenion .wps that I wanted to open but can't get NeoOffice or the default text editor on my mac to open them. Anyone know of work arounds? Unfortunately too the trial on the Office suit has expired so can't even get the trial version of Word to convert!
All of a sudden Word and Excel won't open any more. I just get a message that says "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
