When I just got done updating my software on my MacBook pro a white screen came up like when you normally restart it. But it won't go away or let sign on...what do I do?

So my 20" 2.4 Imac crashed on me twice tonight. A box popped up telling me to hold down the restart button for several seconds to restat. The second time I did this it just sits with a white screen and give three loud beeps over and over. Is there a fix for this? Is it my ram? I'm at a loss.

This morning I attempted to update my software which I later found out was a mistake. When I tried to restart my compter I got an error message. After a little research I found out that not only are several other people experiencing this problem but that it most likely had something to do with the thunderbolt update that became available a few days ago. So I guess my computer is in what I think is called a "kernal panic". Although I don't really know what that means. Anyway, I have read several things which include reinstalling Lion by pressing command R and combo updating your computer with another mac. Honestly though this type of thing has never happened to me and I really don't know if its safe to do on my own.

This is perplexing me: I've only had my iMac 21.5" for a week. I posted here about the white screen issue after the 1st s/w update. Now, on every restart I get the same *but only when* my USB ext HDD is plugged in; unplug it & it starts fine, plug HDD in and it mounts, checked external HDD with disk utility - AOK. Never had this problem with my old 20" iMac! It's still in DoA period so is it best to get it swapped out?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got my IMac 3 years ago just recently started running slower in the past couple months, nothing too bad though. However just yesterday it became unbearable to use. 10 min to start up, once it was on took forever to open up any files etc. So I did some research online and I decided my best option was to reinstall the OS with my startup disk. I did that and erased all my harddrive (nothing important on it.) After doing that it ran great like brand new. Today I turn it on, it continues to work great for a few hours then it freezes in me. I held down the power button to restart. Turned back on and it was stuck on the white apple startup screen. After 15 min I decided to power it off and let it rest a while. After resting it still won't start up.

I recently updated my MB to OSX Lion 10.7.4. I had to re-apply my custom menu bar and icons (as usual), but the first thing I noticed was that the login window was back to that disgusting linen texture.I thought the update just replaced the file, (didn't happen before), so I went to /System/Library/Frameworks/Appkit.framework/Versions/C/Resources/NsTexturedFull ScreenBackgroundColor.png. And then the file was the same, my previous login window.
So the question is: Where is the new login screen texture stored? I can change the mission control background, but no amount of goolging or anything provides accurate and working information to replace the login screen on 10.7.4. Why would Apple break this all of a sudden? The worse case scenario would be that Apple decided to troll and draw the login screen programmatically. Which should never be the case...

When I go to front row, all my video content plays sound, but the picture is just a pure white screen (shows the slider to move chapters, etc., but the screen is just white).
Any ideas for solutions? I did google searches, etc., to no avail. I have a MP (not early 08), which I upgraded the graphics card to a 2600XT, and it's running Leopard.
In fact I'm getting a grey screen when I just try to restart. Have run Disk Utility (which always finds Permissions errors - even though it appears to make repairs. Also, after erasing my hard disk and recovering my user data from Time Capsule). When I restart I don't get beyond a grey screen (with moving cursor). I can't install the update as obviously I need to restart in order to start the install process.

there are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.
