OS X V10.7 Lion :: Why Are Unwanted Icons Appearing On The Toolbar

Jul 2, 2012

When opening a finder window there are now several unwanted icons on the toolbar, 2 are for games and one for a certain website.  Don't know how they got there and customizing the toolbar does nothing to remove them or show how they got there either.

Power Mac G5 :: Unwanted Icons In Top Gray Part Of Finder Window?

Oct 2, 2007

I have accidentally ended up with file icons in the top grey band of the finder window and I don't know how to remove them. I think they got there when I was dragging a file to a different folder and didn't quite get it to the folder before I released the mouse button. I tried deleting one of the files and now a "?" appear where that file icon was. I'm not sure if this is in any way harmful to the running of my computer, but it bothers me that I can't figure out how to get the icons and the question mark off of the top of the the finder window.

Software :: Icons Appearing Generic On G5?

Jan 27, 2009

I have a PPC MAC G5 desktop and recently broke down and installed Leopard 10.5.2 and installed all the upgrades to 10.5.6. I especially liked how all my photo jpeg icons and quicktime movies would instantly reappear with a photo of itself or the first frame of the movie. Now though, all the icons are appearing generic?!? My Quicktime movies and all my photos are all staying as a generic jpeg icon. Is there a specific problem that causes this.? I have two hard drives and the second drive is still operating normally. But my main drive has ceased converting every icon whenever I open a new window.

OS X :: Change Default Finder Toolbar Icons

Dec 27, 2010

I want to change the default finder toolbar icons (back, forward, path and view icons, search, etc), does anyone know the path location for these? I want to make my own icons in photoshop and manually change them, the same way you'd do with the log on screen or icon I know about the customize toolbar option, but that doesn't allow you to change the icons, just to arrange them.

OS X Mavericks :: App Store Toolbar Icons Grayed Out

Aug 24, 2014

In App Store Version 1.3, running under OS X 10.9.4, the past couple of days the toolbar icons across the top of the main window --

Featured, Top Charts, Categories, Purchases, Updates -- are all grayed out. So when I try to click on any one of them, nothing happens.

I can select the corresponding pane by using the App Store's Store menu, and then the grayed-out icon for it shows a very light blue.

Non-functioing of the toolbar icons is an annoyance.

But why aren't the toolbar icons working and how do I get them back?

OS X :: Missing Application Icons - Not Appearing In Folder

Nov 26, 2009

I was reviewing Apple Support's Mac 101, Files and Folders Lesson and I noted that compared to some of their screenshot application items (Finder/MacIntosh HD/Applications), I have an empty space where, I assume, application folders where. I have a blank spot (Sorted by Name) after the Address Book (which I think was the AppleScript folder), a blank sport after the DVD Player (which I think was Expose), and a couple others. Where did my application icons go! I still have the Expose feature if I use the mouse, but I'm curious as to why they no longer appear in the folder. Can I, without much trouble, reload all applications from my Snow Leopard upgrade disk? If so, how? My iMac is an early 2009, 24" w/ 2.66Ghz processor.

Software :: Dock And Icons Not Appearing On EMac

Jul 2, 2009

When I turn my EMac on, it starts up normally, my desktop image shows up, but that's it. There are no icons or a dock. The "spotlight" icon (blue with magnifying glass) appears on the top right, but I'm not able to click it since the pinwheel appears when I scroll over it. The computer was working fine earlier today. Then I copied some files to the desktop from an external device, removed the device. Renamed the files on my desktop, opened them. And Quark (the program the files were created them) froze. The whole computer froze and I wasn't able to force quit anything. I had to turn it off manually, and now the icons and dock do no appear so I can't do anything.

Applications :: Office 2008 Toolbar Icons Missing

Jan 10, 2011

I am using Microsoft Office for Mac 2008, which has been performing fine for many months. Now all of a sudden the icons are missing on my toolbars. All that it shows in the toolbar window, (both standard and format toolbars), is the text without the icons, with just a blank dark area where the tool icons should be, leaving the toolbar impossible to use in any practical way. No amount of selecting or de-selecting the toolbars via drop down window "view", or changing the option for "text and icons", or "resetting the toolbars in customise will change this situation. The problem has occurred in all of "word", "excel", "PowerPoint" and Entourage. I have tried reinstalling office from the original CD, but the problem persists. I have even quarantined the normal.dotm file before reinstalling office, but it simply created a new "normal" file with the same result. No icons on the toolbars. I am using OS X leopard. I haven't yet resorted to reinstalling leopard, but what else is there?!? Any clues to what has caused this to suddenly occur?

Safari :: Extensions Icons Not Displaying In Color On Toolbar?

May 1, 2012

My Safari windows look grey and bleak, just like the weather. I've double checked my security preferences and allowed third party plug-in access etc, is it that extensions just don't install as coloured icons in Safari? OS X Mavericks :: Why Are Header Icons And Toolbar Buttons Grayed Out

Dec 7, 2014

I purchased a used Macbook Pro from ebay.  Appeared to be in good working order when I first started working with it, but I have updated from OS X 10.9.2 to 10.9.5 and downloaded Open Office program, set up my mail and went through the system preferences and personalized it.  Also ran disk utilities.  Then, this AM, when I restarted, the header icons on the right side are grayed out except for the battery %, the date and time and notifications.  Also, in mail and safari, the toolbar buttons are blank (forward, back, print, mail, bookmarks, autofil, history and downloads). I went to the disk utility from the recovery partition (repaired disk and disk permissions).  I also reset parameters.  Don't know what to do next.  Not sure if this is a hardware or software problem, but I am assuming it is software (OS X) related at this point.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Remove Unwanted Applications In 10.7?

Jun 23, 2012

is there no way to remove 'core' applications like Safari, AppsStore, PhotoBooth etc. NONE of which I want or need ... I have favoured applications which I which to continue to use and these others are just clutter which take up space in the applications folder .....

trying to delete them just throws up a "this is needed by the System" message ..... You can't even move them or hide them .... I find it difficult to believe that either AppsStore or Safari is needed by any system (apart from the Apple accounting system)....  Whatever happened to the 'user friendly' Macs I've known for so many years. Do  I really have to put up with Apple deciding what applications I want or need?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Unwanted Nightly Log-offs And Then Different Login Window?

Jun 24, 2012

My imac on Lion 10.7.4 has for several nights logged off by itself.  Nothing is set in System Preferences to make it do this, and I have checked all settings to make sure of this:  Security and Privacy/Advanced: "Log out after x minutes of inactivity" is unticked.Energy Saver: computer/display sleep are at 10 minutes, put the computer to sleep where possible is unticked.

When I return to it in the morning, the login screen is not "normal". On a few occasions, there has been a photo-screensaver image, and weirdly, only when I "paint away" pixels of this image with the mouse is the log-in window slowly revealed behind.  On other occasions, the log-in window has been immediately visible, but the screen has been half-black/half login-window, but not uniformly so.

This is annoying because, although all my apps and documents are restored, this takes several minutes  (my imac has also been running slower and slower recently), e.g. some apps take a couple of minutes to re-appear. Some processes that were running may need to be restarted from scratch.

Nothing has been altered in the System recently, apart from maybe standard updates as recommended by Software Update (did not take much notice). The last thing I was doing before this first occurred was running TestDisk on Terminal on this imac to try to analyse (only) an External Hard Drive (not previously associated with this imac). On two occasions, the TestDisk run (which I left to run overnight) did not finish because of the log-outs. However, TestDisk was not doing or checking anything related to this imac (apart from actually running on it, in Terminal).

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Dock And Toolbar Disappeared?

Jun 16, 2012

The dock and toolbar at the top have disappeared from the screen. They re-appear when I click in the area where they should be but disappear once again whenever I click elsewhere. I have also lost the ability to minimize open windows. I can resize them manually, maximize and exit them I just cannot minimize them! (The orange button has gone grey.)

I have checked that I am not in fullscreen mode and I have unchecked all the automatic hide settings in the system preferences. This is only occuring when I'm using Mozilla Firefox.

I have a feeling that I accidentally clicked a button or unwittingly used a keyboard command to enter this setting, but I can't remember what I pressed!
