Dec 5, 2010You know, the boxes you could select so that iTunes would skip the track? Because right now I'm editing the songs to be one second long, I'd rather just uncheck the box.

OS X :: Invisible Files And Volume Display Despite Check Boxes
Nov 10, 2009I have an Intel iMac with OS X 10.5.8. Have been running with Hard Disks and External Disks "Show on Desktop" as unchecked and "Show hidden files and folders" unchecked, and in Windows, renamed the Windows HD Disk" to ".Windows HD Disk". All has worked fine for over a year. All of a sudden, the .Windows HD Disk is on the desktop, as well as the .DS_Store folder. The other hard disks do not display. Despite checking and unchecking the various boxes, and running Onyx, can't make the two icons go away.

I'm not sure how it happened, but suddenly I have lost the ability to change some settings in print dialog boxes.
In any print dialog box, the top part of the window allows you to select which printer, any presets, the number of copies, whether or not you want them collated, and which pages.
Below that is a drop-down box that typically displays the application name. If you select the triangle in this drop-down box, some other options appear: Layout, Color Options, Paper Handling, Cover Page and Scheduler. All of these options work fine.
Below, these however, are another set of options that are all, I assume, provided by the print driver. On my HP Photosmart C7200, the available options are: Two-Sided Printing, Paper Type/Quality, Borderless Printing, HP Real Life Technologies, and Printer Driver Information.
If I choose any of these options that appear in the lower part of this drop-down menu, nothing appears. The application name remains in the drop-down box. In other words, I have lost the ability to choose two-sided printing, change the paper type or print quality, cor hoose borderless printing.
ITunes For Mac :: Restoring Mail Messages / Settings And Boxes From Time Machine
Jun 2, 2014Recently had to replace my hard drive on my iMac which had OS X Mavericks. I accidently ignored the Recovery option when I first restarted my Mac not understanding it would completely restore everything as it was. However, im taking the opportunity now to rebuild my Mac manually, learning a lot and saving the space that many of my unneccessary files took up. I've rebuilt my itunes Library including restoring playlists, also my iPhoto library and Album organization. While I am able to replenish all of my mail messages (over 3000) through re-connecting the settings for mail, what I lose is all of my mailboxes and sub-boxes I had set up, as well as those hundreds of messages I had flagged and tagged in various colours. I would like direction on how I can restore my mail settings, messages and mailbox structure from my Time Machine back-ups. Really all I need to know are which files I need to look for from that earlier date and how to safely replace them into my current system.

Nov 11, 2009I get this error message when I try to check for purchases: "Unable to check for available downloads. The iTunes store is temporarily unavailable. please try again later." This has been going on for months. Upgrading to snow leopard didnt change it. Various iTunes upgrades haven't changed it. What can I do? I'm running iTunes 9.0.2, OS X 10.6.2 on a Unibody Macbook.

Apr 18, 2009my hard drive was wipped clean, and I lost everything. So, I wanted to get all of my TV, Movies and Music back that I bought from iTunes that was not on my iPod. They gave me all of it back. All 872 files. So, now I just had to go to Store-Check for Available Downloads. And I did. Then I entered my password and it said Checking for Downloads... After a while, it came up with an error message saying that it was unable to check for downloads. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again. I checked and both were good so I tried again. It didn't work. Then I tried again and again and still, nothing.
I rebooted my computer, uninstalled iTunes, restarted my router and still nothing. It won't work on my laptop and it also won't work on my Dad's desktop. So I called Apple and they had me do a DNS flush, still no luck. Then after a while, they said it wasn't iTunes so I should call my internet provider (Verizon Fios) They did all of this stuff, change the readings of my router to avoid 2.4 GhZ thing (I don't know what that means) and they also brought me to [URL] and had me optomize my speed and I did that and still no luck. The guy eventually said that it wasn't my router so I should contact Apple. So know I am here. If anyone could help that would be great. Especially if it's solved by Sunday night because I have a 10 hour bus ride on Monday and I would like to have something to watch on the way there.

Mar 4, 2010I checked the Sound Check box when I went to burn a CD by mistake the other day. Next time I booted up my Mac my iTunes was going through all the songs Sound Checking them, I canceled it about 1/3 through. My question is, has iTunes done anything to a third of my music it didn't finish?

So I replaced iTunes 9 last night, only to find that it wouldn't accept my iTunes library. I managed to reload the songs, but I have lost all my playlists, star ratings, play counts, etc. Its all gone.

Apr 3, 2012Just yesterday Safari repeatedly malfunctioned when accessing secure (SSL?) site drop-down boxes while trying to pay utility bills online. The boxes drop down, the desired selection can be highlighted, but when the cursor is lifted, the change is NOT made, the beach ball spins, Safari quits. Every time. On several different sites. Data can be entered in the blank spaces, but using the drop-down boxes results in a stall, then quit.
These type of tasks were accomplished as recently as the day before. Other Safari functions (browsing, youtube etc) seem to work. Firefox works in all areas.

Applications :: Black Boxes Where Images Should Be In Powerpoint?
Jun 9, 2004Just installed Office 2004 on my powerbook - opened up a presentation I have been working on - only to find that all the images I had inserted into the presentation are now black boxes. Even when I re-insert the image, I still get a black box?
Anyone have any ideas on what is going on and how to fix it? Luckily it still works on my Vaio, but I'd really like to move all my work over to the powerbook.
OS X :: Files Appear In Dialogs Boxes That Aren't Actually On The Drive?
Sep 14, 2009I have a very bizarre problem. This all started with me wanting to share some iWork '09 templates with a coworker. (On 10.6.1 btw)
The templates *should* be stored in Library->Application Support->iWork->Pages->MyTemplates
But through the finder, no such tree exists. I've got Library->Application Support->iWork'09 and that's it.
I opened up Pages and went to "Save as template..." By default it opens up a file picker dialog starts with the default template folder path above. I can navigate the tree in the file picker dialog (and all my template files are there) but in the finder no such directory exists.
I tried typing the name of my template files in spotlight and it can't find them. But I can open templates just fine in Pages.

May 21, 2012I don't know what happend to my websites, but many of them are displaying blue boxes with question marks instead of pictures. Some of the sites are Facebook, Abercombie, Hollister, etc. I read somewhere that it may have been due to the adobe flash update I installed.

OS X :: Window And Option Boxes Not Opened In Proper Place
Sep 17, 2010I have had chronic "buggy" issues with my mac. Here are some examples:
- When I open a new window (i.e. double click on a Word or pdf document from the finder) it will open behind other windows.
- When I click on a window that I want to work on, it won't come to the front, I have to click on other windows in front of it then click on the window I want to finally get it to the front.
- In Finder if, for example, I click on a file to re-name it, the renaming box appears elsewhere on the screen - not in the spot that I clicked. Also, if I am moving a file from one folder to another, the folder I want to move it to often won't highlight when I am hovering on top of it, but when I am elsewhere on the screen (it's as if what is showing on the screen is not aligned with where the mac thinks things are located on the screen).
