OS X V10.7 Lion :: Fresh OSX Install SSD / Disk Privileges

Jun 29, 2012

I wasn't getting the performance I wanted from my SSD and decided to take a Mac writers advice and do a fresh OSX (10.7.4) install. However, I now seem to be having problems with disk privileges currently is it to do with accessing my iTunes media folder. It will not let my download the latest podcast or make updates to my metadata.I also would like to be able to access sections of my previous startup disk when I want to transfer or view files, but they are locked.I can still reboot under my previous startup disk and login as my previous user, but is there some way to grant access the the new user identity of my fresh install?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Sharing And Permissions In Finder - No Privileges Info

Jun 14, 2012

I am using a Mac Mini (mid-2011) running Lion Server 10.7.4.I have noticed lately that when I check files the Sharing & Permissions portion using Get Info on my files I find that there are two lines for each user on my computer. The first set of lines says Read & Write which I actually selected. The second set of lines says Custom. When I check I have the list Read & Write, Read, Custom. When I try to change Custom I cam select new option No Privileges Info. For the other users I am able to delete the extra line once I select No Privileges Info.

However even though I have more than one line I cannot delete the extra line for the main user. I will try and delete the extra line for the main user logged in as someone else that has what I have defined as admin privileges (reason I have more than one user). This really concerns me because this issue is causing problems with me adding or removing files as needed in the terminal. When I try I get this funky error:
"Dubious permissions on file (skipping): filename with duplicate entries for a user."
This is happening more and more even though I am not changing the file permissions that I am aware of.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Change Username On Already Configured MBP

Jul 5, 2012

I bought a computer that was on display and thus already configured to the store's settings (i.e. username, Mail, etc.). I've managed to change every setting to my liking except the username that appears on Terminal and the one on Sharing & Permissions; I keep getting the store's username on those fields.I changed the home folder's name using a tutorial on YouTube but that change does not affect Terminal or Sharing & Permissions! I don't want to re-install Lion...

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Terminal Command To Give Admin User Privileges In Finder?

Jun 29, 2012

Someone gave me a terminal command that allowed my OS X Admin user permission to make an application alias without having to enter my user password. I've since forgotten the command and wish to use it for a new admin user since my old admin has gremlins on a number of apps but new users are not troubled in same way. I can't beleive Apple would default to requiring a password to make/edit an alias but there you go the distrurbing trend towards their total control of my desktop advances… not to mention User SysPrefs leaking over from another user for keyboard shortcuts and sounds?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Its Not Remembering Network Username And Password?

Apr 2, 2012

I have had this problem since starting at my current office. (Over 16 months.)  I inherited a computer from a previous staff person.  Each of my computers have been Macs. (3 different computers in 16 months.)  We are mostly a Mac computer office but our Active Directory and File Server are both Window PC's.

Whenever I try to log in to the file server I get the request for the my network user name and password.  The window already has a user name but it's not mine.  It is the user name of a previous user of my original computer (From 16 months ago.). I say original computer because I now have my thrid computer which I migrated from the first and second one. I'm sure whatever the problem it is has come along with each migration. I have looked in my Keychain Access and found the network password item for the file server.  When I opened it my username and password are correct.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Builtin Vnc Client Is Asking For A Username For VNC Server?

May 17, 2012

I'm trying to connect to a remote Linux machine, which is running a VNC Server, from my Mac running Lion. I know there are third-party VNC clients but I'd like to use the built-in VNC client that is used for screen sharing. When I do a Finder Go to vnc:\<ip address>:5901, I get a screen sharing login prompt and it's asking me for both a username and a password. Normal VNC clients only ask for a password. I can't seem to connect even if I clear the username part and enter the just the password. I've confirmed that I can connect to the VNC server from a Windows box running TightVNC. When I run TightVNC on the Windows box, I'm only prompted for the VNC server password and it works fine. So what am I missing when using the built-in VNC client? Why is it asking me for a username? Is there a hidden VNC username on the server that I could supply that would get me past this?
