OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Change Username On Already Configured MBP

I bought a computer that was on display and thus already configured to the store's settings (i.e. username, Mail, etc.). I've managed to change every setting to my liking except the username that appears on Terminal and the one on Sharing & Permissions; I keep getting the store's username on those fields. I changed the home folder's name using a tutorial on YouTube but that change does not affect Terminal or Sharing & Permissions! I don't want to re-install Lion...

For some weird reason, whenever I install a new program, or when I open iChat, my buddy in my address book comes up as the "install name" or on top of the iChat window where MY name should be...How do I change this...?

I am about to ship an iBook laptop off. I don't have any personal information on my computer, but when I log in, it says "[My Name]'s iBook G4." I kind of want to get rid of that, since I don't know who will be using this laptop.Is there some way I can change this?

i got my MacBook yesterday and during the Mac Setup as I first booted the device, it asked me for information including my mac user id (the one I use for iTunes purchases and etc). Now, I didnt know that my computer would have this as its directory. Because I use my e-mail account as my username on iTunes.When I click on the finder, it shows my e-mail address under "Places" but without the [URL]and etc.So how do I go about changing that to something else? Any ideas?

how to change the USERNAME in this Apple Communitie? When I first entered in this communitie, my username was automatic seted up as "HOW TO BUILD IN TO COMPUTERS".
I didn't have a chance to choose my own username.

I can't display my username as I would like.Up to the status(Available, Away, etc) it shows the name I want, but, on the contact list, it keeps showing my e-mail!
I've already changed:Adium > Preferences > MSN account > Edit > 'Personal' tab > Display name. (it has the name I want).Adium > Preferences > Personal > Name.

Each time I log into Lion, Safari launches automatically. Even stranger is the fact that if I look at my history, it always goes back to the middle of May 2012. I have deleted my history each and every time too. Until last week, it not only launched Safari automatically but took the it to a site I checked back then but do not have set as my home page nor do I have it bookmarked. Last week it stopped taking me to that site but still launches Safari but no browser window is shown.

I set my computer name to my full name and I wish I had not done that but by the time i decided to change it or re do a user I installed so much that I dont want to sit and spend a few hours re installing everything and setting my browsers to how they are, so my question is is there an easier way to change my macs name to something else with out having to re install anything?Â

Anyone know of a way to make the "Name" field on the login screen in Lion longer? My students login with their active directory account/email address, and almost all of them are too long for them to be able to see the whole thing when typing it into the username field.

I have had this problem since starting at my current office. (Over 16 months.) I inherited a computer from a previous staff person. Each of my computers have been Macs. (3 different computers in 16 months.) We are mostly a Mac computer office but our Active Directory and File Server are both Window PC's.
Whenever I try to log in to the file server I get the request for the my network user name and password. The window already has a user name but it's not mine. It is the user name of a previous user of my original computer (From 16 months ago.). I say original computer because I now have my thrid computer which I migrated from the first and second one. I'm sure whatever the problem it is has come along with each migration. I have looked in my Keychain Access and found the network password item for the file server. When I opened it my username and password are correct. Â

I try to download music onto my user name but it says that I do not have enough access priveledges. I am an admin but wasn't the primary put on the computer. Downloading works fine on my wife's account. How do I get the same access priveledges as the primary?

I'm trying to connect to a remote Linux machine, which is running a VNC Server, from my Mac running Lion. I know there are third-party VNC clients but I'd like to use the built-in VNC client that is used for screen sharing. When I do a Finder Go to vnc:\<ip address>:5901, I get a screen sharing login prompt and it's asking me for both a username and a password. Normal VNC clients only ask for a password. I can't seem to connect even if I clear the username part and enter the just the password. I've confirmed that I can connect to the VNC server from a Windows box running TightVNC. When I run TightVNC on the Windows box, I'm only prompted for the VNC server password and it works fine. So what am I missing when using the built-in VNC client? Why is it asking me for a username? Is there a hidden VNC username on the server that I could supply that would get me past this?Â

trying to download a .epub book. The .epub goes to my Download file and when I click it Application Loader pops up asking for my Apple ID and password. It says it cannot find a registered user with my user name. I don't know why it even pops up. It says its purpose is to help me prepare my apps for sale on the App Store. I just want to open the .epub. Â

I work with a guy that is very good with Windows OS and a little bit on the mac. He set up a mac mini for his mother. Last week he stated that macs are good machines but can't configure them to the extreme like you can with Windows in general. That's pretty much long story short. I know he is wrong but have no ammo to back it up with. He did say one positive thing. He says that macs are very intuitive.

Configured Mail in 10.4.11 to iCloud specifications and get error messages and still cannot send and receive. Get error messages, "does not recognize password" etc. Have working on Snow Leopard, iPhone iPad but not 10.4.11 PPC Mail. I used Apple support set up. I originally had a .mac account and have tried both XXXX@mac.com and xxx.me.com as username. I Upgraded my password to stronger suggested strength. (one cap and one letter minimum 8) I verified Keychain. I have even deleted everything including Keychain and account and started over numerous times, still no joy. Ports are incoming 993 and outgoing 587. Will not be upgrading this machine due to production software issues but was told I could stll use the .mac emailÂ

I have a 27" iMac. I would like to split the screen into two differently configured desktops or monitors. Apps like TwoUp or Divy don't exactly do this. I'll explain it with an example:Â
Suppose I'm working on a document and I need to open many folders to retrieve files. One common problem is that opened folders overlap each other and sometimes they overlap with the document I'm working on, or they go underneath the document. I would like to split the screen vertically in, say, two virtual, independent desktops/monitors, like this:
- one window/space on one side (say, on the left) of the screen would contain the document from top to bottom, with no dock bar on the bottom
- the other window/space (right) would behave as a regular, full desktop, with the entire dock on the bottomÂ
In this way, if I need to navigate to find a file to use in the document, I would move the cursor to the right. The Finder would work only in this window/space, thus windows or other applications would never overlap or clutter the left side of the screen. Drag-and-drop from right to left should be possible.Â
One way to imagine it is as if the 16x9 monitor were comprised by two vertical, 8x9 independent monitors side by side, each with its own configuration.Â

Is it possible to delete message in the server using Mail configured using IMAP?Â
Currently when I delete the message in Mail, the server still keep a copy of it, which means it is not deleted on the server. I know that POP can do this but I still want the option of being able to access it from other computers. Â
My server has only a small size, so I hope that I can just delete it from my Mail instead of having to log in to the server and delete it again.Â

Can Safari be configured to display bookmark icons in the bookmark bar? I love having that feature in Firefox. I like having just the icon in my bookmark bar; that way, I can fit in more bookmarks and it's less cluttered.Does anyone know how to display bookmark icons in the bookmark bar in Safari? Can you get different skins for Safari so that I could get that feature?

This maybe posted in the wrong area, apologies if it is. I've been asked by people where I work to setup a Wiki. Now my initial thoughts would be that it has to go on a Windows server but looking around it can be installed/configured on OSX server.My question is, has anyone got a decent idiots guide on how to set this up. I'm waiting for a copy of Leopard server to come in which I believe has a Wiki function built in, does anyone have any experience on this?
