OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Set Privileges To Document
May 28, 2012
I try to open a document but it says "The file “start_server.command” could not be executed because you do not have appropriate access privileges." I went into "Get info' went down to "Sharing and Permissions" it said "Read and Write" under my name so I tryed to open the doc but it still did not work.
So prior to my snow leopard update everything was working fine. Than I installed SL and ever since than I cant down load anything at all from the store.
The message I get says the following:
"there was a problem downloading (insert name of movie or whatver here). You do not have enough access privleges for this operation
I try to download music onto my user name but it says that I do not have enough access priveledges. I am an admin but wasn't the primary put on the computer. Downloading works fine on my wife's account. How do I get the same access priveledges as the primary?
I wasn't getting the performance I wanted from my SSD and decided to take a Mac writers advice and do a fresh OSX (10.7.4) install. However, I now seem to be having problems with disk privileges currently is it to do with accessing my iTunes media folder. It will not let my download the latest podcast or make updates to my metadata.I also would like to be able to access sections of my previous startup disk when I want to transfer or view files, but they are locked.I can still reboot under my previous startup disk and login as my previous user, but is there some way to grant access the the new user identity of my fresh install?

I am using a Mac Mini (mid-2011) running Lion Server 10.7.4.I have noticed lately that when I check files the Sharing & Permissions portion using Get Info on my files I find that there are two lines for each user on my computer. The first set of lines says Read & Write which I actually selected. The second set of lines says Custom. When I check I have the list Read & Write, Read, Custom. When I try to change Custom I cam select new option No Privileges Info. For the other users I am able to delete the extra line once I select No Privileges Info.
However even though I have more than one line I cannot delete the extra line for the main user. I will try and delete the extra line for the main user logged in as someone else that has what I have defined as admin privileges (reason I have more than one user). This really concerns me because this issue is causing problems with me adding or removing files as needed in the terminal. When I try I get this funky error: "Dubious permissions on file (skipping): filename with duplicate entries for a user." This is happening more and more even though I am not changing the file permissions that I am aware of.
Someone gave me a terminal command that allowed my OS X Admin user permission to make an application alias without having to enter my user password. I've since forgotten the command and wish to use it for a new admin user since my old admin has gremlins on a number of apps but new users are not troubled in same way. I can't beleive Apple would default to requiring a password to make/edit an alias but there you go the distrurbing trend towards their total control of my desktop advances… not to mention User SysPrefs leaking over from another user for keyboard shortcuts and sounds?

how to embed an image with a link, or embed a Microsoft Word document with a hyperlink built within the document -- not as an attachment into my email -- but where it shows as the email content when opened! Does ANYONE know the secret? Can it be done, or not? My PC clients do it all the time easily. Then I want to be able to send the embedded image/document (not as an attachment, but visable within the email when opened) to many email contacts at once, BUT the individuals receiving them DO NOT SEE the other email contacts.
just wondering if anyone knows how to stop attachments in the email i am sending from appearing in the body of my email as the full sized document.i am hoping to find an option that will allow me to only have a document icon with the name of the document.
When I go into finder, there are favorites which are applications, but one of them is a document that i accidentally placed there. I am trying to delete it but I cant.
I have a document called "Notes.txt" that I have added to my Login Items so that it is opened on system startup. I have also checkmarked the "Hide" checkbox so that the document, which opens in the TextMate application, is hidden on startup. However, it does not startup hidden. I never had this problem before with starting up applications on startup, but this is the first time I've ever started a document on startup and it does not appear as though it's possible to make it start up hidden.
Is it possible somehow to make documents start up hidden, or is the problem perhaps the application? However, I have at one point added the application itself to Login Items and chose to Hide it and it started up hidden as expected.

I have not needed a pasword in the past and I remember years ago in was not possible for a P/W for a document folder.Has there been any changes that now allow for passwords for a document? If not, any free apps out there for it?
I am using Word for Mac on my Macbook Pro with Lion. Everytime I open a particular document in Word, the view shows Markups, which is really distracting. I can go to View, and get rid of the markup view, but then it shows up again each time I open the document.
Also, each time I open Word, every document I have worked on in the last few months opens, too. I close each document individually, using File - Close, which I thought would take care of it. But it doesn't, and all these documents open, instead of just the one document I want open.
I travel with a macbook air and usually take a copy of my entire "data" folder with me. When I get back to my imac I need to be able to ansfer any new or amended files from the macbook air to my imac.
I just download Flip4Mac WMV Pro ($29) from Telestream and my .wmv videos still won't play. The pop-up says "The document “vid01.wmv” could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." What's a codec?
Just switched to Lion, and was alarmed to notice existing (previously saved) TextEdit files closing without an option to save or not save changes. How can I open a TextEdit file, edit it, and then close it without saving the changes? (I often like to print a document without the photo that may be in it, so I delete the photo, print, and then close without saving, because I didn't want the photo permanently removed from the document.)
Does anyone have an idea about removing Microsoft Document Connect from the Dock? I tried draging this icon to the Trashcan and off of to the Desktop but this icon goes right into the Dock again.
iPhoto: Restoring from Time Machine with iPhoto 9.1.5 and OS X Lion However, the document is no longer available. So what can I do now? I've migrated files from my mother's MacBook Pro with Snowleopard to her new iMac with Lion. So far, it's been buggy as heck. The missing iPhoto library is the tip of the iceberg.
All of a sudden, I have a Word file (document, which I used several days ago) in the grey top area of the Finder window, right next to the Search window, How/why did it get there and how do I get rid of it ? Tried to drag into Trash, doesn't work.
Recently I have experienced problems saving downloaded pdf files. When I attempt to save a pdf file downloaded pdf file I get the message "The document '85book-eng.pdf' could not be exported as '85book-eng.pdf'." I have a MP running Lion. I get the same message whether I use Safari or Firefox.
