MacBook Pro :: How To Rename External Hard Drive With Two Partitions

Jun 6, 2012

I have an external hard drive with 2 partitions: One for my video and music files (named jukebox) and another for time machine (named time machine). The external hard drive itself is a 1TB WD Elements. If I open up disk utility I can see the name "1TB WD Elements 1023" with 2 subpartitions as above named. Similarly when I plug it in to my playstation the drive is displayed as "USB WD Elements 1023". How do I change the name "1TB WD Elements 1023" to something else? I can find it in finder and I can seem to find any command to change it within disk utility. I really like to change it as I sometimes have another WD Elements drive plugged in to the playstation as well and they both have the same name which is confusing.

Final Cut Pro X :: Rename External Hard Drive Without Losing Links To Media?

Dec 1, 2014

I have a new Mac Pro, OS X version 10.9.5, running FCPX version 10.1.3. I have copied all of my data from a 1T external hard drive to a new 4T external hard drive, but FCPX doesn't recognize my media files unless I rename the new drive to that of the old one. The problem is I want to continue using the old one. Is there an easy way to relink my files and keep the original name of the new drive?

MacBook Pro :: How To Rename Hard Drive

Jul 1, 2014

I have recently replaced my hard drive with a Solid State Drive on my 2011 MacBook Pro. The drive is now called untitled instead of "Macintosh HD". I would like to switch it back to "Macintosh HD", but I do not know how to. My MacBook Pro does not have the drive icon on the desktop like the iMac, so sadly, that does not work. How I could change the name of my new hard drive?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can Rename The Home Folder

Mar 14, 2012

I recently had my 15" MacBook Pro serviced because of a hard drive failure. It required that the operating system (OSX 10.7.3) be reinstalled. The reinstall was handled by the Best Buy Geek Squad store where I originally purchased the Mac. They named my home folder using only my first name in lower case letters. I would prefer my full name like my previous install.  DoI understand correctly that it is NOT possible to rename this folder? Would I have to reinstall Lion and wipe all the data to do this? Or is there a simple way to rename the folder.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Batch Rename Of Avi Files?

Apr 15, 2012

I am looking for the solution to batch rename multiple avi files simply. In iphoto, I just select a bunch of image files and using the ctrl+Shift+CMD keyboard shortcut, I input the name something like 'boat_trip_kids' I get the files renamed instantly wiith or without the suffix of a number.Thing is,  how to do for vdo files ?I read a totorial and then tried using automator to do this but I have to input the name_of_the_file in the script construction. That's ok for hundreds of files but I will have many names to use for naming of small groups of files and this won't be practical. Is there some way I can achieve this in automator?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Install On An External Drive?

Mar 17, 2012

I have read the discussions on making a bootable backup of Lion on external hard drive or a USB drive. I am not clear on whether I can purchase Lion from the App Store and have it download on an external drive so that my Macbook with 10.6.8 will remain as is. I want to test drive Lion before giving up Snow Leopard. I use SuperDuper and have a bootable Snow Leopoard on an external hard drive. Addendum: It looks like I may need to upgrade from 2GB of ram to 4GB before using Lion. My question still stands though.

OS X V10.4 :: Have Tiger, Can Install Lion On An External Drive

Mar 5, 2012

I have an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo running Tiger. What I would like to do is install Lion on an external hard drive and have the ability to boot up using either Tiger or Lion as the occasion arises. Reason being, I have some software apps that would no longer run on anything higher than Tiger and would require $1200 worth of upgrades. While I plan to eventually make such upgrades (and perhaps buy a new Mac to put it all on), for now I'm seeking an interim solution. In short, I want to take advantage of what Lion has to offer in the way of increased speed and flexibility (especially with internet surfing) while at the same time being able to boot up part of the time in Tiger to continue to run my older apps when needed. So, can it be done? Install Lion on an external HD? Or do I need to install Snow Leopard first, then upgrade to Lion? Or is none of this possible without buying a new computer and just keeping my old machine to run Tiger with the older apps?

iMac 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.4.11), 20-inch flat panel, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
