OS X V10.7 Lion :: Batch Rename Of Avi Files?

Apr 15, 2012

I am looking for the solution to batch rename multiple avi files simply. In iphoto, I just select a bunch of image files and using the ctrl+Shift+CMD keyboard shortcut, I input the name something like 'boat_trip_kids' I get the files renamed instantly wiith or without the suffix of a number.Thing is,  how to do for vdo files ?I read a totorial and then tried using automator to do this but I have to input the name_of_the_file in the script construction. That's ok for hundreds of files but I will have many names to use for naming of small groups of files and this won't be practical. Is there some way I can achieve this in automator?

Info:
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

OS X :: How To Batch Rename Files With A Random Name

Apr 30, 2008

I have a digital photo frame to see my pictures, but it only plays photos secuencially, it can't be set on "shuffle". So if I could rename the photos with random names, then the effect would be the same, as I would be seeing them in "shuffle".

I know automator can rename files, and there are many many apps that also rename, but I haven't found one that can give the files a random name!

Software :: Watermark PDF Files (batch Operation) And Rename?

Nov 15, 2006

Automator blows. I have worked for two days on this and can not make automator put a simple jpg image as a watermark on a selected bunch of PDF files and then save them as the same file name. This seems to be the consensus on the net too.

Any programs you can reccomend that would make this easy for me to do? I have to do over 500 files and there is no way I am doing this by hand.

Software :: IPhoto 6 File Batch Rename?

Feb 12, 2006

I want to make sure that the file names in iPhoto are unique. For some reason, my digital camera was set to reset its file namer to start at IMG_0001 with every roll, so I have several dozen files with the same file names. Within iPhoto, it's generally not a problem, but if I need to work with a group of files outside of iPhoto, copy-dragging a bunch of photos across rolls to a single folder generally bombs out because of the conflicting file names. iPhoto doesn't seem to have any sort of file renamer at all, I can change the title, but that doesn't actually change the file name. I could and will now use the iPhoto exporter because it seems to do the trick, but sometimes that isn't as convenient as selecting a bunch of files and dropping them into my preferred folder.

OS X :: Batch Rename Pictures - Downloaded Off Digital Camera?

Sep 7, 2007

I have spent the better part of an hour trying to rename a batch of pictures that I downloaded off my digital camera. As a recent switcher, it would have taken me a second to select the pics, right click, and rename them all in one batch. I was using Adobe's lightroom wich is really nice (free trial) and found it was going to be my picassa replacement (man do i miss that program) and I found that I need a plug in called bridge which only comes with photoshop which I dont have for mac. So.. anyone know how to rename 20 pics at a time. 2007 09 05 (1) 2007 09 05 (2) etc. who said changing over was going to be this hard. its like learning to ride a bike all over.

OS X Mavericks :: Automator Batch Rename - Removing Type Of File With No Extension

Jun 25, 2014

I've set up an Automator to batch rename files. The renaming works fine. The problem arises when it renames a file which doesn't contain it's extension (a common MacOS practice). Is there some way to make sure it preserves the filetype? For instance, this works fine:

Original:

Output:

And this results in an error:

Original:

Output (file type has been replaced with generic "document" type)

Automator logic, can be viewed here.

Applications :: Batch Rename Song Names To (Artist - Song Name) Within ITunes?

Apr 28, 2009

I have song compilation albums in itunes. I prefer to seach by Artist, not album. Compilation albums often assign a different artist for each song. I don't like this, as I end up with thousands of artists, each with only one song! Here's an example:

I copy "Classical Chillout" compilation album to itunes. 30 songs show up, each with their own (new) artist name, song name, and all within the album "Classical Chillout.

Instead of having:

SONG Adagio for Strings

ARTIST Samuel Barber

ALBUM Classical Chillout

I want to batch rename all songs so that the Album name becomes the Artist and each "Artist" name is inserted into the "Song" name

SONG Samuel Barber- Adagio for Strings

ARTIST Classical Chillout

ALBUM Classical Chillout

Applications :: Batch Renaming Files In OSX?

Mar 3, 2004

I've got a whole bunch of photos in various subfolders. Some of these photos have the same relative name (ie same file name but in different folders).

I would like to rename all these files like 000001.ext, 000002.ext etc, independently of file location so I can copy all the files back to one single folder (I can handle that bit in Terminal). There are many sub-folders so I need something recursive.

I've tried Renamer4Mac, but it isn't recursive. Does anyone know of a different app that would work, or even a terminal command/script/binary that would do the trick?

OS X :: Batch Change Files UNIX Permissions Settings?

Oct 24, 2010

How do I batch change files' UNIX settings? I have web sharing turned on and have it set up so it's serve up the files and folders on my hard disk. It works great, but when I look at the folders it's showing in the web page, approximately 1 in 10 folders just isn't being displayed. The OS X permissions on these folders is all set to "read and write" for everyone, so I presume there is some sort of other UNIX or Apache file/folder settings that are keeping these folders from being displayed in the webpage. How do I make these hidden folders show up in my web page's displayed directory of folders?

One at a time is ok for 4 videos or less, but when I have more than that it can get a little tedious. Specifically, I need something that can batch convert my mpg movies files my point & shoot digicam can take to a format that imovie 09 will import & work with.

Applications :: App/Automator Script To Batch Convert Htm Files To Jpg?

Aug 7, 2010

I have a collection of .htm files saved onto my Mac hard drive. I want to convert them to .jpg files--all at once. I found a Windows program that could do it, but when it converted them, it would not retain the original file names. It gave them a sequential file name, i.e. _1.jpg, _2.jpg, _3.jpg ~ _263.jpg. There is no option to retain the original file names...:/

EDIT: (i.e. marketingtable.htm > marketingtable.jpg)

So my question is, is there an Automator process that could batch convert .htm files to .jpg? Or is there an app for Mac that can batch convert .htm files to image (.jpg) files?

I usually am able to find the answer to all my questions with Google, and this time I thought I had as well with the Windows app, but it brought upon too much of a feat for me to handle.

(Also, if there's an Automator process to batch rename files using a .txt file as a reference for the new names of the files, that'd be awesome as well.

OS X Technologies :: Automator - How To Batch Import TXT Files Into Excel

Mar 6, 2012

I have been using Automator to import hundreds of text files into one excel workbook using the "Import Text files to Excel Workbook" action. Automator works great for all files that are tab delimited. However I have another set of data that are output with a varying amount of spaces between each column. I cannot change the way they are output.

Automator gives me the option of choosing "space" as a delimiter, but it wont give me the option to "Treat consecutive delimiters as one" that Import within excel does. I also tried to record my actions within excel many times but it didn't work even with just one file. So what I need is a way to get these text files into one excel workbook as separate worksheets with the data separated correctly into columns.

OS X :: How To Batch Unlock Numerous Files Within Subfolders/folders/directory?

Mar 14, 2008

Problem:

I have a folder with numerous subfolders, each containing numerous files that i would like to batch unlock (vs tediously unlocking each individual folder).

failed attempts involve:

- tried the following terminal action: sudo chflags -R nouchg ( as suggested on this website (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106237) but it did not work.

I did not try the other suggestions on the website because it started getting really complicated and i was afraid to do something that may cause damage/delete my files

- tried unlocking the folders and subfolders, however each individual file within the corresponding folder/subfolders remained locked

Partial but suboptimal solutions tried:
- i found a partial but not optimal solution to my problem on this site:

however, the option-command-I will only allow me to unlock files each subfolder at a time (as i need to actually highlight the files themselves).

is there a way where i could just unlock all the folder/subfolders/files within an entire directory in one fell swoop?

My system:

- the new MBP running Mac OS X 10.5.2

i am a new mac user and i apologize in advance if there is some simple solution to this problem that i have yet failed to discover,

Trying to rename a couple files in finder. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I can click on the file to bring up the cursor, and the name gets highlighted. Once I start typing however, it just takes whatever I have typed and closes the cursor edit box and I have to start all over again.

It's like I have a 2 second window to rename a file. Even if I click and the cursor comes up, if I don't type anything and watch it the cursor disappears after 2-5 seconds.

OS X :: Strange Rename Files Bug?

Dec 11, 2010

I've noticed for a few months now both in 10.5 on my PowerMac and 10.6 on my MBP that often when I click to rename a file in the finder, it will a few seconds later "un-select" the renaming as if I had hit return to finish renaming the file. I then have to click it again to finish renaming the file. Sometimes, it will do this 2-3 times before it quits exiting on its own. I wonder if Spotlight could be interfering sometimes because it often seems to do it when the window is first open and OSX is in the middle of updating the little icons to show video snapshots and the like. But I've also seen it happen after they're all updated as well. I don't recall seeing this problem on either Mac more than say 6 months ago or so. It certainly never used to do it as I've had the MBP for over 2 years now and the PowerMac for around 4 years and I would have noticed. I wonder if one of the system updates might have changed something, for example.

Has anyone else noticed any issues with renaming files being unselected like that in the middle of typing?

OS X :: Trying To Rename Files On Uni. Macbook?

Aug 21, 2009

I have searched around and have not been able to find an answer to my problem. I am having a very tough time trying to rename files/ folders on my late 2008 Unibody MB. This has always happened with this computer since the day I purchased it. When I am trying to rename a file or folder, I hit the return key so I can edit the name on the file. I then try to either backspace or click and drag the selected text that I want to delete. 9 out of 10 times it stops me from doing it mid deleting or adding text. It's like someone it pressing the return key as I am in the middle of editing the text. I am sure I am not pressing the trackpad or enter key accidentally. This is really getting on my nerves and I am about to throw this computer at a wall if I cannot get this fixed.

It's always allows me a different amount of time to edit before it saves it automatically. I am trying to rename over 1000 files on external/ internal hard drives so I can get the correct name for movies in plex/ iphoto. I know I can go into Get Info and edit the name in there, but that would take forever renaming a thousand files. It literally takes me 5 to 10 times just to rename one file. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this problem? I have also tried using the Apple BT keyboard and have the exact same results.
Also completely random question, is there a way to disable the IR port on the MB so when I am controlling the Mac Min HTPC it doesn't keep messing with the MB by bringing up Frontrow, pausing/playing tracks? I literally have to cover the IR port with my finger just so I can use the remote on the mini.
