OS X V10.7 Lion :: Automator Message - Data Couldn't Be Read Because It Has Been Corrupted
Mar 20, 2012Every time I sign into my Macbook, I get an error message from Automator; "The data couldn't be read because it has been corrupted.". I have never created an Automator workflow. How do I find out what Automator is trying to run and stop it?

Apr 21, 2012I updated to Lion on my desktop a few months ago and I swear now I can't read older Microsoft word and Excel documents correctly on this computer using Office 2011. The document opens and you can see all of the data in a preview window (from finder) but once it opens fully the data/words are not there. I have Lion on a brand new Macbook Pro I just purchased and installed the Microsoft Office 2011 and it opened the excel document I was having trouble with fine.I can't find many links for Office for Mac issues.

May 14, 2012i was using HP simple save for time machine, but after some time the disk stopped working and it refused to backup any more stuffs, i am damm sure that no hardware problem is there as because my hard disk is new. please do provide me the solution for this.i am showing you the error message.

Jun 22, 2012I am using a Mac Mini with OS X 10.7. I am having an issue with an external disk that was previously used as my main file source with an older Mac Mini. It seems there is a certain folder on the disk that I can't open or access that contains my lossless music files. When I look at the permissions it doesn't let me set them and also doesn't show "me", with the name I use to login to the system, as having access, or even showing up in the permissions on GetInfo.

Apr 22, 2012I just switched from Snow leopard to Lion and i don't like the way that Lion has the mail preview set up as a 3 column vertical format. I thought in Snow Leopard you could change the set-up so it's either horizontal or vertical, but I can't seem to find that option in Lion. I want to have the list of my email messages in the top, horizontal window and the preview of the selected message in a horizontal window below. Am I missing this option to change the view format from vertical to horizontal somewhere?

Aug 12, 2010Basically i've had a HD which refused to read some data off it (only about 5 files out of 1Tb files) and I suspect it was only a sector or two that wasn't able to be read. Now is there an app or something that would read the entire disk to make sure it can be read properly? These files arn't backed up as they in relative terms are not important, however if more and more files become unreadable then clearly it's on it's way out.

Nov 28, 2009I'm having issues with burning data DVDs on my Mackbook Pro (running Snow Leopard) I'm burning large files (DVD/Blu-Ray rips) and the discs are unreliable. I'm trying to pinpoint the problem but haven't been able to. Some of the discs are not able to be read by the Mac - sometimes it spits the disc out a few seconds after being inserted...other discs just spin and spin and spin and it seems the Mac cannot read them - I can't even eject them without rebooting the computer. There seems to be no rhyme or reason between discs that read OK and discs that don't. Some discs were burned via the internal superdrive and some via a Sony USB dual layer burner. All discs burn and verify OK - there was no indication on any of them that anything went wrong. I am using Sony and Memorex discs, single and dual layer. Are there any known issues with either the Mac superdrive, or the burning of large (4+ GB - almost 8 GB) single files? I've got a good number of discs here and like I said all burned OK...but I've been having to go back to retrieve files and am only now finding that some of the discs are giving the problems described above, which means many of the backups I thought were legit are no good. Alternatively, if there is a better method for backing up these files . They are stored on hard drives being used by a streaming video player. I thought backing up each file to DVD would be a reliable backup method but apparently this is not the case. It's not ideal to back up to other hard drives - there are too many files and it would be too expensive. I don't know that online backups would be feasible because of the amount of time it would take to upload them and the space they would take up would likely be too expensive to maintain.

Mar 20, 2009I have a problem when I'm transferring files from my powerbook g4 to external hard disks such as lacie or ipod. It keeps popping up "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in file AVI could not be read or written. (Error Code -36). This happens just for certain files, not all of them. I don't know whether the hard disk has an issue or the file is corrupted and if the file is corrupted I hope there is a program that can restore it.

Jan 22, 2010I've done a search for this and cannot seem to find a definitive solution. I've just upgraded to a larger Verbatim external drive and when I go to take files off my existing external drive across to it, it keeps coming up with the error: The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in *** can't be read or written. This only happens in certain folders. I am able to copy some folders across, but some I get this error. I've tried verifying both drives, formatting the Verbatim one for FAT32, repairing, but nothing seems to work. Some points that may be worth mentioning:
- The original external drive is formatted as MAC OS X Extended Journaled.
- Some of the folders I am having trouble with may have been originally created on a PC.
I would like to keep the new drive as FAT32, so I can use it on a PC if I need to down the road. I read something about using dot_clean via terminal, but I can never seem to get the path correct to my external drive. (The name of the external drive is MASTER HD) Would appreciate if anyone else has had the same problem could tell me what they did to solve it? Not sure why some files will copy over and some wont?

Nov 11, 2009Been a Mac convert now for about a year and haven't really looked back. So far the only thing keeping me from going straight Mac is Quicken. Hopefully this spring Intuit will get the latest Quicken for Mac right, but I digress. I am currently running VM3 to boot into Windows 7 in order to use Quicken, and a few other things from time to time. But this new Modern Warfare 2 game kinda has me thinking I might need to install Windows 7 via Boot Camp in order to give it a try. With that said, if I install W7 via BC I'm I able to access the data on my Mac partition, and with full read/write access? Furthermore, do I understand correctly that VM will then allow me to access my BC install from within it, thereby having the best of both?

Aug 12, 2010I have an external Transcend HD, which has been working perfectly fine for around 5 months now. It is NTFS, and I use NTFS-3g and Macfuse. Been running fine. Was able to read and write. Suddenly I am only able to read though. I go into the "Get Info" pane and the option to choose whether I want to read and write, or read only is gone, and all that it says is "You can read only". getting this back to read and write is really appreciated. I really need this disk.

I took out the hard drive from the Vista and put it in an external enclosure that is USB attached to my Mac. The Mac is unable to read the drive.
I thought that leopard was able to read NTFS file systems?
It acts as if it doesn't even understand the partition table format on the drive.
Is there a simple way to get this to work? Does NTFS-3G help reading the partition table?

Mar 3, 2009I am trying to copy about 12000 songs from my internal HD to an external so I can wipe my drive clean and start again. The problem is that I keep getting this "disk cannot be read from or written to" every few hundred songs. The songs have come from all over, and there is no common thread to how I acquired any of them. I've actually got this error when trying to copy several different file types to an external HD and I've no earthly idea why. I'm sure the drive is riddled with irreparable errors which is why I want to wipe it, but I need to get a lot of these files over before I do so. Can anyone recommend some kind of utility that will identify and/or repair these corrupt files so I don't have to stop and start the transfer every 30 seconds?

MacBook Pro :: Disk Drive Won't Read Or Eject
Jun 4, 2012I put a cd in the slot drive to burn to my itunes. At first it seemed to behave as normal, it sucked the disk in, made noise, all that good stuff. Well I went to itunes to find the disk and it didn't show. It didn't show up in finder either. I decided to eject and try again, but the disk wouldn't eject. Since then there's been no noises from the drive. It seems like the drive just died, like it's not even trying to start up or work. The cd is literally a week old, and has been in my car cd player since I bought it, so I know the disk is clean. Also, I used the drive a week or two ago to burn several disks and had no problems with it. All my software is up to date and it reads the drive as being there, it just doesn't work.
I've spent a few hours troubleshooting this. Like I said, the computer doesn't even seem to realize there's a disk in the drive. I've tried restarting while holding down the mouse (well, trackpad actually), repairing permissions, blowing in compressed air, tried ejecting with terminal, gravity, resetting the SMC, and probably a couple other things I'm forgetting.
