I do a lot of editing of text docs and every time I open TextEdit it opens a new doc when I want to just open the doc I'm after. Then I have to close both of them. This gets annoying when editing several docs. Is there any way to turn off the new doc? I don't see that option in the menu or preferences.

I've recently upgraded to OS X Lion and I have one issue with the mail program. When I click on an email message (spam or not) it automatically opens it up in the pane on the right. Is there any way to prevent this automatic opening of messages?

Whenever I launch Pages, the application opens pretty much all the documents I've worked on. I take care to close all the windows, hoping that they won't launch again next time I start the application, yet they do. I can't find a setting in the preferences or Settings to disable this behavior.

textclipping files are cool, but not as useful as they could be. I'd like to be able to open them in textedit (or similar) to select parts of the clipping, but that doesn't work.

This general behaviour appears to hold true for most applications, whether system preferences, native applications, or third party applications. However, I have noted - to my great frustration - that TextEdit does not conform to this behaviour. Instead, it chooses to open in a specific place and size each time, regardless of what I do. Anything I can do to fix this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running OS 10.6.8, TextEdit v 1.6 (264) and find that documents created in TextEdit and saved with a custom scale (90% for example) and then closed always revert to 100% when opened the next time. The funny thing is when I close the document after changing the scale without saving it prompts me to save the changes, but even then it's not saved. So I'm thinking this behavior isn't normal, TextEdit knows it's supposed to be saving this but for whatever reason it's not. This is more in the category of a nuisance than a problem but I thought I'd post and see if anyone knows anything about this.

i'm the admin of a mac lab at my university. users use one specific user account - is there a way to prevent this user from opening .dmg files? people can run apps right from a mounted dmg and i've caught a couple of people trying to download torrents here. though they don't have permission to move an app into the applications folder, they can simply run it off the desktop.

My computer is set up with a network drive that does not allow for the new feature "versions" to function properly. I guess at some point a window popped up and asked if I wanted to save anyway and I clicked the "do not show message again" and cancel. Well it has remembered my choice to not show this message again but now it just permanently overwrites and saves text files when I close them without even hesitating. So 10 minutes ago I had a very important file open and accidentally modified it, I was done with the file but did not want to save it so instead of undoing I just closed the file. This new system has completely overwritten the file with this new version and when I reopen it there are no undo options or previous versions available to restore. How do I turn this stupid feature off?

I am able to print in Firefox, so this has to be a Safari problem. I have checked my Internet Plug In files and there is no Adobe plug in as suggested by others in similar questions. Turning on/off the computer has not helped either. Nor has Open PDF in Preview. I'm using an iMac with Lion and an HP Photosmart C4700 printer.
