View 7 RepliesI can be in the middle of using an application, browsing a web-page, or basically any type of function when it will put itself into sleep mode. When this happens, I cannot get it to "wake up". I have to disconnect it from the power source, turn it over and remove the battery, wait a few seconds, then hit the power button, put the battery back in, then restart it. This is the only way I have found that will get it to come back to life. I don't like doing it, but I really don't see what other options I have.

I do a lot of editing of text docs and every time I open TextEdit it opens a new doc when I want to just open the doc I'm after. Then I have to close both of them. This gets annoying when editing several docs. Is there any way to turn off the new doc? I don't see that option in the menu or preferences.

New ADSL Modem/Router from ISP.A Zyxel P-660HN-T1A_1Pv6 Only wanted the modem function as I use Time Capsule and an Airport Express to extend the signal. On bringing up the modem web page and login box for device configuration, my password is not accepted using Safari ( My default browser)I have managed a successful login with Firefox(on adjusting permissions) and immediately with Opera and Google Chrome.I use "wireless"off and the Open DNS servers, but the login failed initially while showing my ISP's DNS addresses To add to the confusion, a friend who was visiting today with his laptop was able to access my device configuration with his Safari (which he doesn't use usually) I am left with the conclusion that there is something in my Safari setup which is blocking the browser from accepting the password. For the life of me I can't identify it and other than checking others' setups I don't know where to go from here.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have pdf files I need to save, and the "save as" window drops down directly over the top of the page. Many times the pdf is scanned documents with titles, authors, and publication dates and journal names at the top of the first page. Therefore it is difficult (even though the drop down is opaque) to transcribe the article name into the save file as window, because that information is at the top of the page. I cannot scroll down in the document to have the information visible as it is typically page 1, and I cannot move the save as window over so I can see the file name I want to enter. I have to write the title down on a piece of paper then click save as then type the words in from the paper, even though the title I want to use is under the drop down.

The current behavior of the Finder icon in the dock first brings Finder windows currently open into focus. I often wish I could click the Finder icon, and have a new window open. However if each time it was clicked, it brought current windows to focus, but then also created a new window, this would be annoying. So how about this:
If the Finder isn't in focus, one click will bring it into focus. The next click, assuming now that the Finder is focused, creates a new Finder window. Also, it could even be conceived that a double click of the Finder icon, when out of focus, would both bring current windows to focus, and then create a new window directly.
As far as I can see, someone on my work mac right clicked on the 'Downloads' folder and set the 'Open With' option to 'Preview'.
As such, when the icon is clicked every item in the Downloads folder opens in preview (massive pain) and there are issues with the folder working on the dock. I tried changing the 'open with' option on the Downloads folder myself but there isn't anything appropriate to change it back to. I assumed finder but that isnt an option.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there a way of getting Safari to open a link in a new tab in the existing window rather than opening a new window? Before anyone shouts I have got that ticked in the preferences, but it doesn't do it.
Here is an example of what I mean, in google mail, if I choose the google finance option, it opens it in a while new window, not in a new tab in the same window.
I have a Mac Pro tower with Snow Leopard, and there is a long delay, sometimes 5-6 seconds long, before files open up after being clicked on within the Finder window. The delay happens with any file, such as a MS Word file, .jpg file, .pdf file, whatever. The result is always the same - a long delay before the file opens. It doesn't seem to matter if the file is large in size or not. Before the Mac Pro I had a G5 and it opened files much faster than this brand new Mac Pro.
View 4 Replies View RelatedToday, suddenly, my finder has started quitting whenever I go to the "applications" tab. Every other part of the finder works but the applications refuse to open. It's worrying me because I think it could be one of those few mac viruses. I'm running a virus scan at the moment to see.
Also on the possible virus front. I had cleaned my HDD the other day and gotten it to 58 gigs left of free space. A few days later it came up as 78 free though which confused me.
Suddenly Iphoto wouldn't start, so I tried to buy an update on App store, but it didn't work. When I click on Iphoto, it starts but Iphoto doesn't open, it just open the window and a circle keep running. What can I do?

Within the past two days, I think my laptop has gotten a virus or been hacked. Every time I open a new tab a pop up window comes up even though I have pop-up blocker turned on. In addition, when I google anything the results are below many more ads than normal. I got a virus detecting app from the App Store and it said my laptop was clean so I don't know what to do!

When I try to close safari using the red dot at the top left hand side of the screen instead of the window closing it opens a new blank safari window. Infact the same happens when I click the amber and green buttons also.
I recently have had to system updates (last night and today). Last night I also had a problem that has fixed itself where pressing the command + Q buttons would not clos safari and the "Quit safari" in in the safari drop down was greyed out. As I say the later isue has fixed itself after I force closed and the updates loaded on. Not sure if the two issues are connected.
After difficult migration from old Mac Book to Mac Book Pro 13 iCloud image site doesn't appear anymore on my Safari opening page (topsites)
It is not so important because the link already function when I click in the black page. But disturbing. All over pages in topsites have their image right there.

After doing an erase and clean install to 10.6.6 for some reason my Search window continues to open in Icon view rather than List view as it did before. Hard to believe I can't resolve this. And there's probably a very simple solution, but even after doing an extensive search on the web I can't seem to find it.
