OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mount A Dmg File On System Start?
May 6, 2012I want to have the system mount a certain dmg file before anyone logs in, is there anyway to do this

OS X Mavericks :: Mount A Second Hard Drive In File System
Aug 28, 2014I have a 2.13GHz 13" white Macbook (Mid-2009) with a 480MB SSD, 4GB RAM and a dying SuperDrive that frankly doesn't get used very often.Â
I would like to yank the SuperDrive out (I use my iMac for any physical disk work anyway), install a smaller SSD (64GB) for the OS (+ obligatory recovery) in the primary position, and place the current SSD (or a HDD) in a SuperDrive enclosure to hold all personal files (documents, videos, music, etc...)Â
Here is the scenario I'm contemplating.Â
-64GB SSD: primary position, holds OSX + recovery
-480GB SDD: mounted on /Users/[my user name]Â
As far OSX is concerned, there's only one 544GB filesystem, spread over two disks.Â
As an experienced Linux user, I would expect to have to modify /etc/fstab to do the trick. Mac OS X 10.9 actually has a /etc/fstab.hd that tells you that the file is useless. I am wondering whether it is possible to "mount" in the Unix sense partitions in the file system so that the system only appears to have one drive and also how.Â

PowerPC :: Unable To Start System After Update / File System Got Corrupted?
Jul 19, 2007I am a proud owner of a MAC powerbook G4 for just over 3 years now. It runs MAc OX 10.3. For the last two weeks i have been having issues. First it started to be very slow. Then it would not boot up and i got a blue screen. I ran the file system checks from the OS X and it complained about the volume being bad and said it could not be repaired. i decided to reinstall the whole thing and did a complete erase and install. IT booted up fine. The software updater asked permission to update which i agreed.
After the update was over, the software updater had more updates. I guessed that it was probably giving me updates in the chronological order. During a particular update, it gave the blue screen and "please restart" ... and when i rebooted it did not come up... just a blue screen... i verified the filesystem using the diagnostic tool and it again said it was corrupt .... I have done this twice now and i have a feeling it happened when i was updating the same batch of software updates.... sometimes my software updater would crash everytime i launch it.....

Jun 4, 2012My imac became very slow all of a sudden (stalls when clicking and typing), 2-3 mths after Lion (not sure it's related), mount_hfs and syslogd taking up 80-99% of CPU in Activity Monitor.After digging online, checked my Console and found repeating messages exceeding 20,000+++. But I'm not sure what is being repeated (sample below).I've already turned off Time Machine.I was able to delete the syslogd activity, but still left with 99% mount_hfs, which 'maybe' related to the 20,000+++ repeated messages.Not sure if it's relevant...but I was digging through my asl folder, and it is up to 10g for a single date for some reason! OS X Mountain Lion :: Moved System Fonts Now MacBook Pro Won't Start
Dec 6, 2014I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro running OS10.9.x and in an attempt to troubleshoot another issue I moved all the system fonts into a folder on the desktop. I didn't delete the font folder, just moved the fonts. When I went to restart the computer all it would do is flash between a white and gray screen and randomly display a progress wheel but won't start up.

Mar 27, 2012I am most certain that this is the case: foolishly, I didnt leave much free space and now the disk doesnt want to mount. I tried the single user mode, I also booted from DVD, they appear but the disk utility shows the disk but I cannot repair the disk, because it is unmounted. I tried the basic commands in single user mode, no effect either. I still cant get over the blue screen with the apple logo and a circle running. I need to free up some spasce. Unforetunately, important files were not backedup, so I really cant delete the whole disk. I need to delete specific files.  I dont know where are my big files located - so, how do I orientate myself among the folders? Lets say I would delete my itunes libary, which I would later on renew thanks to the back/up, how would I delete them?Â

May 29, 2012I backed up some movies for the kids onto an external drive (USB without power cord). Now when I plug it in, it does not even show up. If I try to look at it with the disk utility it sayd the file system is not recognised. Last time I accesed the disk was under leopard. Could it be that the change to lion has cut off access now?I do hear the disk start up when it plugs in and I have not seen any strange history with this disk before switching to Lion. (A drive of the same make but bigger and with power cord plus USB still works from before and after Lion). Small disk is Freecom 1TB (pocet size), Large disk is 2TB also Freecom but with powerfeed seperately.

I can open and eject .dmg files as if they were discs, but I would like Mac OS X to actually think that it's a real cd drive with a cd in it. If you're wondering how to mount an ISO image in Mac OS X, it is very easy. In the Terminal type the following command: hdiutil mount sample.iso with sample.iso being the path to the image you want to mount. After the checksum is completet, your ISO will appear mounted on your Mac OS X desktop - that's it. You you can actually mount virtually any other disk image type with hdiutil as well, so give .dmg .img a try too.

Jun 20, 2010My Mac OSX does not recognize NTFS partition.By default, I know it should at least be on read-only mode but under Finder I see the drive not even being mounted.I went to Disk Utility to see the NTFS partition, the one I installed my Windows 7 on, but it says the format is in MS-DOS(FAT) whereas I clearly see it shows as NTFS on Windows 7.There are about two files sized as 8.50GB stored on that drive so that should prove it's not clearly formatted in FAT system.

My bittorrent client, Azureus, is likely accessing one of the three partitions on the external drive when, for some reason, my system hangs. After a while i I just hold down the power button to force a restart.
After it starts up everything works fine, except that the partition that was in use wont mount, although the other two will without problem.
All the partitions show up in disk utility. If i try to mount the troublesome partition from within disk utility, I get a dialogue box saying the mount failed and I should try first aid. When I try to repair it with "Verify disk", it tells me that the volume "appears to be ok".

Feb 15, 2011I have a Seagate Free Agent external USB hard disk (250 GB) which I had reformatted to FAT32. This draws power from the USB port and seems to work perfectly on my Linux (Fedora Core 8) and Windows (XP) boxes. On the Mac, when it is plugged in, it asks me whether it should Initialize, Ignore or Eject. I choose "Ignore" and then go on to mount it from the terminal using the commands sudo mkdir /Volume/FA sudo mount /dev/disk2s1 /Volume/FA. The device name has to be found out first using Disk Utility. After it is mounted, I can read, write, delete etc. without any problem.
Question: Why does it not mount this disk automatically? Even when it is mounted why does it not put a disk icon on my Desktop? I have no issues with smaller FAT32 pen drives which show up on my Desktop a few seconds after I plug them in.

Nov 19, 2010My buddy and I just finished swapping the airport card for a mini pci-e sata card in his 2008 Imac and all is well. Unfortunately, we could not get it to show or mount anywhere on mine (2010). We tried everything. We loaded the raid drivers and the none raid. We tried both cards (his and mine) in my machine and still nothing. His Imac mounted his ssd immediately after installing the drivers. Could it be that the new logic boards do not support this type of card? Is there a special driver that I need for the i7? I was hoping this would add 2 more sata ports.

I recently picked up a 1TB WD external with Firewire (pre-formatted FAT32) and have been transferring movies and such fine, but I just tried transferring an HD movie (5GB) and some large .dmg's/.iso's and they all just fail with an error.
Is this a size limitation, and will i need to reformat the drive to fix it, or is there something else I'm missing?

Jul 20, 2009While copying files from my digital camera xD card onto my mini, the Card reader un-mounted itself and remounted its self several times, I have no idea why...Now I have a load of 0Kb files in the folder where I was copying to. I can delete these, but they come up with a "file in use" error message so I need to click for each file to be deleted... ~350 left I did try a restart thinking that may clear up any "pending" file transfers from the system to allow them to be deleted like a normal file

Jun 14, 2012I set up a Linux Mint Server with NFS after SSH doesnt worked now i want to connect to my Server i have /media/movies set free to use for my account, but when i try to connect it says it doesn´t find the server. When i go to a File on the server which isn´t set free to use it says i don´t have the right to connect so i think it finds the server. I´ve also connected my via Terminal but than it also says i don´t have the right to see this folder, but i tried it under windows and linux with the same id and it worked so i don´t know why it doesn´t work on apple.
