View 3 Replies View RelatedToday my emails can not get through. The ball keeps spinning on Mac Mail. There is a triangle next to it, which says when clicked: " Unable to receive Mail: There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account XXXXX or try again. The server returned the error: The connection to the server "mail.optonline.net" on port 110 failed (error 51: Network is unreachable" I verified disk permissions, reset my modem, rebooted, but nothing. I can obviously go online but can not access my mail in any of my accounts. All software is up to date.  I am able to send and receive email on my iPad 2 (wifi) but not on my iMac.Â

I have 4 email addresses. Three come through the same server. The 4th comes through a different server. All have worked fine up until a few days ago, when the single address from the separate server started to give me problems.
For that address alone, mail constantly shows a spinning wheel and will only retrieve mail from March 13 and before. Anything past March 13th won't download. And I have to "Force Quit" mail when I shut down. I can send mail. And I know the mail I'm sending gets to the recipient, because I've tested it. I just can't get mail from this account for any date past March 13.
The Connection Doctor says everything is fine, "Connections are successful." I've been in constant contact with the server company. They said I have all my settings right (after I sent them snapshots of my settings), and they said something must be corrupted on my computer.
I've thrown away mail preferences several times, rebuilt the account several times, changed various settings just to experiment, removed other suspect files from my User/Mail folder, including a file that was named, LSMMap.corrupt. I've restarted several times, I've rebuilt permissions and I've run DiskWarrior. No changes.
Strangely, every time I rebuild the account, Mail downloads the same small set of email messages over and over. The messages I manage to receive come from between the dates of March 5 and March 13. The March 5 cut-off date makes sense, since just prior to March 5, I had neglected to renew my domain name for that address. I renewed at that point, and immediately received email again, with no problems. Up until March 13, when I stopped receiving mail again through my Mac Mail client. But only through my Mac Mail client.
I can retrieve current mail from this address perfectly fine using web mail. Also, the server company has told me that they have used my settings and set up a Eudora mail account for that address and that worked just fine.
I've done some research in your forums and have found some people having some similar symptoms, such as the spinning wheel, but all the fixes that I've seen people suggest have not worked for me.
I'm stumped. I read a message where someone wondered if a time stamp on one of their incoming messages messed up the Mail settings somehow. This peeked my interest, since my mail seems to be stopping at a certain date.
I've never seen anything like this. There must be a corruption somewhere and I must just be missing that corrupted file when I toss things. I don't want to toss too much and lose all my other messages from my other addresses, etc.
When I launch Mail, there's no new mail. When I try to use one of the drop-down menus, I get a spinning beach ball of death, and a program freeze; I can't even access the Mail menu anymore. To bring my computer back to normal, I Force Quit Mail - and that will stop the freeze. What's the best way to restore functioning on Mail given this error?Â

For the last week I find that after sending an email with attachments that it remains in my draft box after sending. The mail shows up in the sent box, but it never get's deleted from the draft box until I resend it. This is happening on both my MBP and iMac. Both machines connect to iCloud for mail.

On my iPhone and iPad mail app, which is sourcing from my Gmail, 'read' mail is changed to read mail (from unread) status on across iPad and iPhone mail application platforms. But not for IMac using Lion.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an early 2011 MacBook Pro running OS Lion (10.7.3) and in the last two weeks I face the following problem with the Mail application and my Yahoo mail account: although the account appears in the side bar of the application and it will search for new messages when I launch the Mail app, it doesn't load any messages and I also realised that all Mailboxes of the named account are blank! The messages appear normally when I reach my account through the Yahoo page! I tried to remove and re-import the account in the Mail app, but it just worked for two days and now the Mailboxes are blank again! I have no problems with the other two mail accounts I reach through the same application (both POP accounts).

I have been using Gmail for about 7 months, now. I am using it in conjunction with a MacBook Pro (15 inch, mid-2010, i5, 2.53 GHz, running OS 10.7.4 and the current version of Mail) and an iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1 with the pre-installed Mail app). I, rarely, use Gmail's web interface and prefer to view and manage my mail using my devices.
I, recently, discovered a Gmail behavior that I wasn't aware of. Whenever I deleted an email from my Inbox on my MacBook, it wouldn't, actually, delete from Gmail. Instead, a copy of the mail would remain in Gmail's "All Mail" folder. It seems that Gmail and I have different ideas about deleting. When I delete, it means that I would, actually, like to get rid of it, not hide it somewhere else. After sorting through the, almost, 3000 emails in the "All Mail" folder and re-deleting everything that I thought I had already deleted (a pain, to be sure), I found the solution to my problem. In Apple Mail, I checked both Trash options in my account preferences then selected Gmail's "Trash" folder and used the "Use This Mailbox For" option to map it to Mail's trash (similarly, I mapped the trash folder on my iPhone to Gmail's trash folder). Now, everything I delete is going to the same place (and actually getting deleted).

Apple Mail has a preference to 'Trust junk mail headers in messages' but I can not find a list of what those headers are.By trial and error I've learned the "X-Spam-Flag: YES" will work (exactly that, no extra info), but I'd like to know what other options there are... particularly if I can send a score/rating back and have it look at that. But I can't find a list of supported headers. The Internet is full of "common spam headers" and yet none of them actually seem to work and lots of people who can't get it working with spamassassin which is incredibly common.

I'm migrating the admin side of my life to my iMac. I am using Mac mail for my mai, this includes a Gmail IMAP account and a POP3 account for my meandering ISP. The IMAP one loads up fine with the IMAP folders there under a sub set of folders for the account. But the POP3 account won't let me create folders within it nor does it have a subset like the Geekwolf one you see below. What do I need to do to get it to have folders, I need to be able to sort incoming mail, but at the moment, I can't.My ISP does have an IMAP setting, but I don't want to have the mail sat about on a server.Â

since upgrading to Lion an embedded attachment in a e-mail, jpeg or pdf will cause a recieving outlook to stop displaying the e-mail content before the atachement-icon, no mail content after the icon is displayed anymore. Mail itself shows propper content of the e-mail.Â

My mail application crashes every time I try to either compose a new mail or reply to a mail.Â
I recently migrated from a old MBP to a new one and only after that have started noticing this issue.
I was already using Lion on my old MBP and continue to do the same on the new machine. I am on Mail Version 5.2 (1257) and OS - Mac OS X Version 10.7.3Â

Moved to my new Mac Book Pro from Linux 3 days ago. My first Apple computer.Wonderful machine and OS. Set up my G Mail account on Apple Mail with the wizard and was receiving e mails no problem. Today all of the mail from both my inbox and sent mail disappeared. I did notice that both my incoming mails and sent mails end up accessible in the folder G Mail/All Mail-- the messages from both inbox and sent mail that disappeared from their respective boxes are in there. In reviewing my various mail settings I notice that Apple Mail set the account up as IMAP rather than POP. I also noticed that there was no way to change this i.e. edit the account. I am not that well versed on differences between POP and IMAP. I also tried rebuilding the inbox after I noticed that the contents disappeared and it made no difference. It is essential that I keep copies of everything on my local machine as well as the server.

I have been a fairly happy OS X Lion and Mail 5.2 user for some time now. Gmail worked finde (IMAP) - have followed all instrucitons and recommendations.A few days ago, Mail stopped fetching mails from the gmail server. While this contines to work fine on my iPad (and obviously directly in gmail via Safari), it no loger seems to work on the iMac I have. Tried restarting, repairing disk permissions, running Captcha on gmail (via Safari).Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have an Exchange 2003 server and use Mac Mail as the imap/smtp email client.
All works fine but Mac Mail does not offer a warning if I try to send an email which exceeds the server sending limit of 10mb. If I use exactly the same email account on the same Mac but in Thunderbird, or MS Entourage I am presented with a warning when it tries to send the email, saying the the mail exceeds the mail limit.
But Mac Mail does not do this. It processes the email (just like the other apps) then it makes the whoosh (mail sending noise) and the email disappears!! its not been placed in the drafts or sent mail and I would have no way to know this mail had not been sent.

I am away from home, and the inbox of one of my mail accounts on my MBP (10.7.3) has lost all its information. When I get home I want to restore (most of) the lost data from my Time Machine backup.Â
However, I do not want to restore all the accounts and all the mailboxes, just the one that was lost.Â
How to I find the Inbox for that account, in order to use the older file in Time Machine to restore it with?Â

I am unable to send mail from the Mail app on my Macbook Aire. Problem started recently. Am able to receive mail without problems.Â
