Ever since I downloaded iplayer - my mac has been running slow. I have followed a few tips to remove it and all other related files - but it still runs low (spinning wheel of death) and now pdf's dont download correctly (I guess I have deleted too much).Â
My ideal would be to start from scrach - although I want to keep my itunes and iphotos files as well as my documents. Is there a way to reload back to factory settings then add selected programs and folders from timemachine? I am in the process of timemachine backing up everything now.Â

I have a Macbook Pro that I use for my home & office computer. I am thinking about purchasing an iMac for my office so i do not have to lug the laptop back and forth. My questions is: is there a way to keep the two computers synced? Same apps, music etc...

I have seen references to something called Air Drop to allow two Macs who are on the same Wi-Fi network to exchange files but cannot find any way to use it or instructions.

I have an iMac (2008) and a Mac Mini. I heard somewhere that you can connect two macs together and use the processing power of both to make a more powerful machine. Is this true? How do I do it?

I have a Mini with Lion Server. My wife has a MacBook Pro as her main computer. I imported her user from the MacBook to the Mini, but am wondering how to keep everything synced on her User between both machines. As she works on her laptop won't her documents on the Mini become outdated quickly? It seems like there should be an easy solution to this but I haven't found it; I'm new to Mac though so I may be missing something obvious.

I know Lion need only be purchased once and installed on multiple computers, but is there a limit on exactly how many? Plus, can Lion be installed on a Mac that isn't mine, like my mother's MacBook for example, or would the installion require me to have an account on the MacBook?Â
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have 2 macs - mac mini and a macbook pro Both audio outputs of the computers are teathered to my speakers with a Y cable. When computer one is playing music to the speakers, I'll be using computer two for work purposes. Should computer two experience an audible alert (instance message, new e-mail message, etc) the music will dim for about 30 seconds. How do I prevent the "dimming" of the music?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThere are a lot of forums on this subject, but are specifically about Apple removing Keychain sync with iCloud. I cannot find any solution as to how to do it now they removed this option. Â
I have installed Keychain2Go but it just synced right away to "somewhere". I guess it's their servers. So I am concerned about that as I don't know this company. Â
So is Keychain2Go the only solution to sync Keychains now? I cannot find any other solution. Â

Mac OS X offers a method by which you can "join" an Active Directory server by going through System Preferences --> Users and Groups --> Login Options --> Network Account Server. Is this the same as making a windows pc join a microsoft domain?
If so, is this the preferred method of integrating Apple Macs in a pre-dominantly windows environment.Â

I try to synchronize my Mail signatures on an iMac, a MacBook Pro, both with MacOS X Lion 10.7.3 installed, and an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1. I have iCloud configured with my Apple ID on the 3 devices. Is there a way to achieve this or must I do it manually?

I have been using Macs since 1992, upgrading to new operating systems as they came out. Now have Lion 10.7.3. I have recorded video/movie clips mostly from online sources. I have never had problems playing these back until now in all my previous Macs. Now some will play, others when I click the play button come up with the message "supported disc not available". Do I have to buy an old Mac computer with earlier OSX operating systems to play these again? How can I transfer the content to a form that Lion will recognize if they will not open.

I have an iMac with a directly attached USB drive and a Mac PowerBook attached via WIFI to the same network. I would like to have both devices back up to the shared drive via Time Machine. To date I have been able to get this to work, in a limited fashion. As soon as the iMac goes to sleep the PowerBook cannot see the drive and the backup fails. I would think that since I have selected the power option on the iMac to wake up for network access that this should work. This sounds like a simple requirement, I tryed to attach the USB drive to my Airport Extreme and we all know that that does not work.Â
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy brother and I share folders and various file types through ichat at the moment, but it's so slow, we are both on pretty fast networks (35/35MB and 50/8MB) I can mount a folder of his on my mac (we are in seperate towns) by putting our apple ID's into the apple extreme section (I think back to my mac) and we can share files that way, but I am confused as to why the transfer rates are so slow, we get at best 32KBs. Any recommendations for a faster file transfer method between remote macs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI keep all my stuff on an external HD. I usually backup the external HD using time machine on my Mac_1 to my time capsule.Â
I recently bought another Mac_2. If I use time machine on Mac_2 to backup the external HD, will it create a separate backup on the time capsule. If so, is there a way I can use the same external HD backup on the time capsule and use either of the Macs to backup the HD.

We have two Macs. I use my Mac for work and Time Machine to keep a backup of my Mac every hour. Occasionally (every few months) I'll unplug the external hard-disk from my Mac and use Time Machine to backup my wife's Mac. Hence, two Macs, both using the same hard-drive to backup to. Recently there is only the space on the disk for Time Machine to keep backups of my Mac from the previous day.
Is there a way to delete backups of my wife's Mac to give my backups more space? Can I simply open the back up disk and delete a few of the backups of my wife's computer? or do I need to do something more complicated like partition the disk? or is there a way to tell Time Machine to keep more of my backups and less of my wife's?Â

Own a late 2011 macbook pro. want to install Lion on new SSD. Also have Lion thumb drive pruchaced from Apple and stuff to mount an external drive. Figure to just install new SSD drive and keep working old one as a backup (not a time machine backup) and use Lion thumb drive and do a cleaninstall. Also have latest iLife on dvd. ? Will this put me back in the same shape as I was before I switched drives?
Lion 10.7.4 is installed on origional 500 gb internal drive.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHave recently done a clean install of Lion onto a Mac Pro that was running Snow Leopard. Upgradede to 10.7.3  The Lion Mac sits on an office network of several macs running Snow Leopard and a Network Shared HDD.  In order to gain quick full access to the other computers we have been using "connect as" then inputting the macs registerred user administrator details, we were able us access to the full Mac and it's currently mounted hard drives. Since installing Lion I can see and fully access the network share which only uses guest access, see the Other macs in finder, add to their drop boxes but not connect as a registerred user to access one of the snow Leopard machines.  I get a pop up. Spinning wheel, and eventually a timeout. Can't even cancel this action as it comes up greyed out. Oddly the other macs can still log into the Lion machine. No joy so far toggling network preferrences and I'm pretty sure it's going to be a setting I have missed, So far have had not joy looking online or playing in seeing why it would now not be able to connect as before.Â

Updating lion and the blue installation bar has moved to abou1cm from the right and has reached the "Âoving items into place..." location. The blue color is still flowing like it is installing, but the bar has moved for over an hour. I'm afraid to shut the machine off.

Usually MacBooks come with Hitachi drives, and I'm wondering if it's possible to install a hard drive onto a MacBook Pro (2.4ghz Unibody) that isn't a Hitachi. (Western Digital, ...)
Would there be driver problems (Heating up, ...) and also the hard drive free-falling locking feature be disabled?
Though users of older Intel-based Macs were led to believe they would have to spend $169 to migrate from Tiger to Snow Leopard, new reports state the $29 upgrade disc will work just fine.
In his review of Snow Leopard, Walt Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal, Mossberg reveals that those who have been hesitant to upgrade their Mac will be able to take advantage of Snow Leopard's bargain price, without the need to install the intermediate Leopard operating system first.
"For owners of Intel-based Macs who are still using the older Tiger version of the Mac OS, Apple is officially making Snow Leopard available only in a "boxed set" that includes other software and costs $169," Mossberg said. "The reasoning is that these folks never paid the $129 back in 2007 to upgrade to Leopard. But here's a tip: Apple concedes that the $29 Snow Leopard upgrade will work properly on these Tiger-equipped Macs, so you can save the extra $140."
Wired also confirmed that they were able to upgrade a system directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard. In addition, it is possible to completely erase a hard drive and install Snow Leopard without a pre-existing operating system in place, enabling users to bypass the possible headaches of an upgrade and go with a clean install instead. Wired said many users upgrading from Tiger should probably consider backing up their files from Tiger and doing a clean install instead.
"Of course, the transition isn't guaranteed to be as smooth as it would be from Leopard to Snow Leopard," the report said of the Tiger to Snow Leopard upgrade, "and that's because some older, Tiger-only third-party applications need to be upgraded to newer versions that work with Leopard or Snow Leopard."
Originally released in April 2005, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is more than a little long in the tooth at this point, especially considering the astounding success of its follow-up, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
