Applications :: Free Image Editing Software?
Mar 11, 2007Does anyone know if there is any basic photo software available free for mac? Although if there was something decent I wouldn't mind paying a little for it. All I need to do is crop one part of a photo and put it onto another one. Ive heard of something called GIMP but it says I need this thing off the mac osx disk before I can install it, which is at home (I am at uni).

Feb 4, 2009Ok, so I have been a life long pc user who recently bought one of the new unibody mbps. On my old pc I had a large collection of .mp3 files that i moved over to my mac. My problem is that on the pc I could easily edit all of the information by right clicking and going to properties. On my mbp I right click on the file go to get info but it wont let me edit any of the stuff in the "more info" section, like the year recorded, comments, album, or title. Is there anyway to do this? I am really ocd about how my music is organized and like it all to be the same. (seeing unorganized ipods drives me crazy) I know you can do this in itunes but i want to do it on the actual files so it is changed permanently.

Sep 11, 2010I've recently made the move from a PC to a Mac, and so far, everything gone very smoothly. I got iWork with my Mac, and there is one problem that's bugging me; every time I open a word (docx) document in pages, it asks me if I want to keep the changes or discard them, and that is for when I am just reading them. When I edit them, and I go to save it, it keeps bringing up the save as box instead of overwriting the present docx file.
I've already installed any missing fonts I have in my documents. So, to summarize, my two main problems are: If I read a docx file, Pages acts like I made changes to it, despite the fact that I did not. If I edit a docx file, Pages keeps bringing up the save as dialog box when I try to save, instead of overwriting the original docx file. The same thing happens with Numbers and Keynote. I just need a temporary fix 'til I can get a hold of Office 2011.

May 29, 2010I want to convert some video files (specifically swf in this case) to audio files so I can listen on my iPod. I looked everywhere and can't find some free software that does that. There are tons that have trial periods with lots of limitations (like it won't convert anything larger than a 5k size file) so I don't want those because I won't know if the thing works well unless I pay for it. I'm not opposed to paying for a converter IF I know it works awesome on a Mac.

Mar 24, 2010I would like the area in 'Notes 1' to be pre-populated with some text. But the PPD is so confusing I can't see where to change it. I can change the 'Notes 1' text to anything but I can't get the text field to contain any text from the PPD.
The company who supplied us with the printer assured us they had the in-house ability to edit PPDs for us, but they don't.
OS X :: Editing Files In Textedit?
Jan 18, 2010Hi everyone! I made the switch to Mac recently after my Dell laptop crashed, and I had just had enough of Vista. I'm LOVING it and getting accustomed to it, but one thing is driving me completely CRAZY and I hate it-
I run a website and on my PC, I would simply edit the coding myself, in notepad. They are PHP files, and uploaded perfectly, no problems.
I opened the file to update the site tonight and it opened in Opera, and didnt show my code. I selected to open it in textedit, and edited it fine, uploaded, etc. After awhile, I found something else that needed to be updated and opened in TextEdit again and now it only shows me a PREVIEW of that PHP file, and not the coding. How can I fix this-- or what else can I use that's going to strictly show me the code only and edit it?
OS X :: Editing M2ts Files On An Imac?
Aug 11, 2010I'm just taking my first look at video editing have a Panasonic HD camcorder (HDC-SD10) and an imac running Snow Leopard.
The format from the Camcorder is .m2ts which play great on the PS3 but won't play on the iMac unless I use VLC.
Now I'd like to edit these video files in iMovie and know that I have to convert them to be able to do so.
Obviously I'd like to be able to convert these a) losslessly and b) if possible using freeware. Losslessly is the main requirement though.
Is it possible to do a lossless conversion and if so with what software.????
Software :: Editing Music Files?
Aug 6, 2008This might be silly but i really dont know how to do it.
Its simple,
You know in Windows, if you want to rename a music file, you can simply right click on it, then you go to properties.
Then you can go to Summery, then after clicking on Advanced you can edit every information about that music file, such as artist, album, gender, year and so on.
in the mac, i tried clicking command+I to open the info for that track, but i couldnt change any of the information just like the windows.
Please note that even if you edit these information with iTunes, its still not change the original file.

OS X :: Permissions For Editing Files From File Sharing Between Two Macs
Feb 10, 2010I currently have a Mac Mini operating as a Home Theatre with my TV, i transfer media files between my MacBook and the Mini via the Wi-Fi network.
The files transfer fine, no problems. However when it comes to modifying or editing the files i have a labourious task of going into the info pane of the file & adding the Mac Mini as a user and then giving it the read/write permissions.
Is there any way that files transferred from my MacBook via this method already give the read/write permissions automatically to my Mac Mini? Instead of going into every file and adding the permissions manually?
Probably is a simple answer to this, but its the first time i've used file sharing between two macs.
Intel Mac :: Aperture Crashing Whole Computer While Editing RAW Files
Apr 25, 2012I am a Photographer and so I have many RAW files on my Mac. I use Aperture to edit, but in the last few days when I am editing a picture (zoomed in, skin smoothing or retouching) App will just close, the only warning being the coloured spinning ball. Last night my whole computer just switched off whilst I was in the middle of editing, and this morning the screen went dark and an instruction came up to turn off the computer by holding the power button, and restart.
I've checked my RAM and there seems to be plenty. It was just an issue exclusively to Aperture, but now I seem to be experiencing the spinning coloured ball when trying to use Safari. So there is something missing. I was wondering if it just may be Aperture, in which case I was going to export all the projects to the desktop and then uninstall and reinstall the software.

Final Cut Pro X :: Editing On Internal Or External Drive For Small Media Files With Lots Of Layers And Compositing?
Aug 21, 2014I am upgrading my mid 2012 MBP with an internal SSD. I have16 RAM. OS is Mavericks.
I edit videos using a mix of photos (imported layers via photoshop), short animations, short video clips. I do some very basic stop animation also. So each media file is not heavy (photos, pics, short videos), but I do a lot of layering and compositing in FCPX. I had a lot of delays and freezes with 5400 rpm HDD… so I decided to upgrade to SSD.
Some people have told me to edit it all on my internal SSD as the media files are not big..
Everywhere else on the web I read that all media / libraries should be on an external while I edit them. But most of these contributors are using huge video files, HD, which is not my case.
So – with small media files but lots of editing and effects / animation, should I spend the extra money on a good external 7200 rpm USB3 to edit from ? Or just use external drive for storage and not editing.
Not going for TB as I read there would not be a difference between USB3 and TB on a 7200 rpm external drive (difference is felt when using RAID, r SSD external) ...

Dec 23, 2004I am trying to create a custom ISO for installing linux on dedicated servers, based on a standard ISO. For this, I need to edit a file which contains parameters for partitioning the HD, as I have replaced the supplied HD with a larger one on many machines, and want to modify partition creation, so I do not have to install fdisk and modify the /home partition later.
I have the ISO and can mount it, and edit the necessary file, but I cannot save it back into the ISO.
How should I do this? I've googled widely and found nothing.

But i have a few basic questions and all since i am a new mac user coming from a pc. 1- I have a 500GB western digital elite harddrive that i used to back up all the data from my pc. MacBook Pro :: When Deleted Files There Is No More Free Space
Dec 10, 2014When I delete files there is no more free space. I ran a Disk Utility repair in Safe Mode and it said some files were corrupt and some had the wrong size but it didnt fix anything. It said to backup and restore/erase my mac. I dont really trust the saftey of my files in a backup because I have had lots of trouble with apple. Last time I was there they said my computer was to old (I got it in 2012). They also said they dont know whats is wrong with it and a bunch of other stuff, they just tried to get me to buy a new computer.
