OS X V10.7 Lion :: Deselect Radial Button In Shut Down As Default?
Apr 6, 2012
When I shut down I would prefer to have the "open windows on restart" radial button deselected. How is this done? In the console? Some preference somewhere?
All the suggestions seem to assume that Firefox >tools contains a deselect function. It doesn't. I can find nothing in my MacBook Pro to indicate that I can deselect the browser. I have selected Safari as my default browser in the Safari Systems Preference page, but every time I open my system Firefox appears. I know I can uninstall Firefox but I don't want to lose my address book or bookmarks.
I have macmini like mediaserver. But when internet is mising, or error when iTunes can't get album artwork it display dialog window. And i need conect to serve via VNC, and press "OK" Botton. What app can close this widnows avtomaticly? AppleScript?
My 15" early 2008 MacBook Pro won't shut down unless I hold the power button. I have done extensive searches and have done the following and the problem still persists. I have pulled the battery to reset the SMC or whatever it is called. I ran disk utilities and repaired the permissions. I deleted unnecessary files in the preferences folder...... still no go..... in fact it won't load software updates because it gets hung up.... then I have to force quit it by holding the power button..... I am at a loss.
So everytime I try to turn my macbook pro off by clicking the shut down button it does the usual turning all software off and then going to the desktop with the dashbord going away and the little circle coming up but it just stays like that forever until I force it off by pressing down the power button. What should I do? I just got this laptop around 6 months ago
My MacBook Pro froze while I was using it, so I shut it down manually with the power button. When I turned it on again, the screen with the Apple came up and the small spinning wheel is showing, indicating that it is loading, but it won't going any further than that, so I can't start it up or access any of my data. What can I do?
We're not used to having the computer's power button on the keyboard. Occasionally, when trying to hit Delete, one of us turns off the computer power. I'm wondering if there is a setting (I really don't know my way around macs or I'd check myself) that can trigger the shutdown only after the power button has been held 3 seconds or more. This would prevent those accidental shutdowns.
I'm using a B&W Power Mac G3 with 512MB RAM and OS X Tiger for a SMB file server (with 5 users) and a USB printer server. Everything is working good, but I have a problem.
It doesn't have a monitor or keyboard/mouse attached normally (I can configure it via VNC). The problem is that I would like to be able to turn the machine off when it's not needed (like at night sometimes, days when I won't be home, etc.). I would like to just hit the power button and have it turn off, however it puts it to sleep instead.
Normally, sleep would be fine, except on the B&W, the fans still run, just the HDs shut off, so it's still noisy as heck.
Is there a way to make the power button shut it off? If not, any other easy methods of shutting it off you can think of? Via VNC won't cut it, as my dad needs to be able to turn it on (not a problem) or off as well.
On my new 17" Powerbook, I can't drag and drop anything. I can only select/deselect and cut/paste, but no drag. This is consistent throughout all my apps. I can manage getting around the finder with cut/paste, but I can't do any graphic work if I can't drag anything (you can imagine).
Is there a tweak or a way to reselect files you have selected? Sometimes when I select multiple files, i accidentally deselect and my selection is no longer selected. depending on how many files i have selected, it will take me some time again to reselect the files.
My "achive as" button do not appear when im trying to save a scanned PDF document but only the "achive" button. I have tried seraching the internet for answer but without any result. A solution to the prblem is to press doublicate and then "archive" then i get the option to save in a specific loaction (notice that even after doublicating i don't get the option to archvie as).
-The problem also appears on exsisting pdf document and documents from other users.
- i open it in apple standard preview program
- The problem appaered 6 months ago after and general apple software upgrade.
- I don't have any "download" folder in my finder menu ( I don't know if this is a relevant information but could have somthing to do with the settings i.e. as administor even though it is my own mac).
I can not deselect mute all computer sounds on my Imac with Lion I went into preference and for output the only thing I can select is headphones is there away to get the built in speakers back on this drop down list?
since updating to lion i have had nothing but trouble. i had to change to use sync as i had been using mobileme. my imac would be stable for >50 days with loads of applications up and running. the best i can get now is 5 hours. the machine crashes, will not shut down (grey screen rotating bars for hours on end)
For some reason when using my apple tv and photostream there are a few photo's appearing on my tv that I do not want to be included in photostream. I have checked the iphoto - photostream folder and the photo's are not even in there. I have also reset my apple tv and still they are appearing. what can i do?
A friend's Son is being very "unproductive" with his Macbook Pro. I'll just leave it at that.
He would like to force-shutdown his Son's Mac from 10pm to 4am, so that it cannot be restarted unless an Admin uses it (my friend).

Whenever I need to shut my computer down from the apple menu it hangs. It does the same thing whenever I try to restart it. It's annoying. The only way I can get results is to physically shut it off.

I have a new imac 3.4ghz - i7 with 16gbs ram that won't shut down unless I hold in the power button. I checked the Console logs but that did not give me any indication of what might be hanging it up. I also, have a Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 and it has no trouble powering down.
I am running AVID Symphony which is not qualified for 10.7.4 yet so I am not going to do the update yet.
Ever since I have upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard, sometimes MacBook Pro doesn't shutdown or restart. I choose shutdown or restart it logs me out then there is the gray screen with the turning little dotted circle and it doesn't reboot or turn off, so I have to hold the power button and manually turn it off.
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Magic Mouse, and airport express
I can't restart or shut down the mini, due to "operations still in progress." How do I workaround this problem? It seems to occur after I've done a Software Update. The only way I can shut down is with the power switch.
