OS X V10.7 Lion :: Change The Program The Mac Opens When Start Laptop?
May 31, 2012
How can I change the program my Mac opens when I start my laptop? My mac book Air opens Word and Skype automatically and I can´t seem to make not to do this.
About a month ago I upgraded my computer from Snow Leopard to Lion, but now there are some features that I had in Snow Leopard that I can't figure out how to change in Lion.I heavily relied on Spaces for opening my programs and more importantly, opening up certain programs in certain desktops. I was able to go into my System Preferences and choose which program I wanted to open up in which desktop in Spaces. Now that I have Lion (and Spaces is gone) certain programs still open up in certain desktops, but I don't want that feature anymore. Am I stuck with programs opening up in those selected desktops, or is there somewhere in my computer that I can go to change that?
I originally bought my computer in CA in the U.S with the hard drive 10.4.7. I came here to live with my mom for a while in mexico due to personal resons and while I was here I decided to buy the newer hard drive for my mac which is the 10.7.4 But when they installed it all the default programs they installed such as "word"Is all in spanish And I want to know how I can change the lanuage to english? Also when I press Command Option P & R it'sall in spanish and I dont quite understand it. So if you can pleae guide me how I can change the language settings to all this?
Whenever I to open Safari, over 80 windows open immediately. My homepages are two websties and I'll get probably 30 or so windows with my Home "pages" combination, and then another 50 of windows of sites I visted recently. If I proceed to close the windows out, Would reinstalling Safari work? Or does this look like a virus and should I just restore from my time machine backup? My most recent backup is roughly 1 week old and my external has not been connected since this began to happen. It's worth noting this only happens to Safari--Firefox works perfectly fine. No other odd behaviors (ie. system lag, program crashes, etc.) have appeared.
So lately I've had this issue when I restart my computer: iPhoto starts up and lags the initial start up of my laptop any time I power up. Not sure if this is a re-post, but i've searched everywhere and haven't found an answer on any post. I do run parallels on my laptop, and when iPhoto starts up on a restart it shows it being connected to my Windows HD. I tried renaming any "image" folder within the HD to a different name - no luck! I have no other external USB devices plugged in. I do not have it set to open at login on the dock, nor is it on my "Login Items".
Sometimes my laptop will load a program automatically when I start it up. Most often it's Firefox, but it has also done this with OpenOffice. I've checked my Start Up items and neither of these are on there. Everything on my laptop is up to date and I've run Disk Utility. What could be causing this?
Starting a few days ago when I double click a folder on the desktop it no longer opens. Instead, I am taken to a new desktop window that shows the folder clicked plus all other items on the desktop. How do I restore the double click to open the folder? I have tried resetting the double click speed with no results.
I have a G3 laptop bronze keyboard that want start. I bought a new battery an AC adapter. When I install the battery 3 lights on the side of it lights up and then goes out. I am trying to get it going so my wife can use it. The PRAM battery has never been changed and the computer is 10 years old.
Brother in laws imac g4 laptop does not start up. Is there a way to key command the computer to start up as a hard drive so we can save the data on his desk top?
He of course did not save the disks that came with his computer.
My Macbook Pro 13" Mid-2007 wont show any signs of powering on after I tried installing a second RAM card to make it have 2GB of RAM. No lights turn on, I don't hear ANY sounds coming from it, and the screen is blank. The battery is fully charged, but I still tried charging it over night but nothing changed. I've tried powering it on with it plugged in and still nothing at all. I've tried it with just its old RAM and still nothing. Then I tried resetting the SMC, but nope. After that I opened it up and looked inside to make sure i put the RAM cards in correctly and from what I can tell, I did. Then I checked to make sure the power button was ok and it looked fine, then I made sure the cable that connects the keyboard (which also happens to include the power button) was securely connected and it was. I am at my wit's end and REALLY dont want to take it in to Apple seeing as it not under warranty anymore so the price of just diagnostics would be high.
i Was Using My Ibook And The Last Thing Running On My Ibook Before This Dilemma Was The Voice Recognition Program. Out Of The Blue My Ibook Shut Off And When I Tried To Restart My Laptop All It Did Was Turn On But Would Not Do Anything More Than Just The Power Light Glowing. My Ibook Would Not Boot Up ...no Os...no Nothing Except For There Is A Lil Box In The Center Of The Screen That Flips From The Mac Man Icon To A Question Mark. But That Is Absolutely All It Will Do. I Am New To Mac And Am Devastated By This Problem. I Am Enrolled In College And Every Bit Of My Schoolwork Is On My Laptop.
I just set up my MBA uisng the TIme MAchine backup from my old MacBook Pro. In doing so, it gave my Air the same name as I was using for the MBP - which was MY MAcBookPro. I'd like to change the name now seen by other devices, etc.
my laptop when ever i go to turn on just goes to this black screen with words and numbers and it has just been sitting at this screen for weeks does anyone know what this is i wrong some computer fixing guys but they didn't know what i was talking about
When launching mail there is a message that it cannot receive mail. Thought it might be a server issue, but what happens is all the menus in Mail grey out, so I can't even check preferences or anything else.
In bootcamp I got all the way to the part where I have to enter in my windows activation code during the windows installation. I just realized however that the code I have is wrong, and I can only get it from the guy I bought the copy from tomorrow. My question is, can I just shut down my laptop and start from the partition with no problems once I have the code?
I don't know the exact specs of my computer but it is the macbook just before the new ones came out from stock, so no parts are replaced/upgraded. Literally 10 minutes ago my computer was running fine and I was installing this program called JACK because one of my audio programs I run needed it. So after I installed it told me to restart so I did. then when I did it booted up into my empty windows partion, now it's a long story why I have a partion without windows installed but we can talk about that later. So naturally I was like "crap" and restarted but I forgot which button was to choose the start up disk so I held control-option-command hoping one of them would register... nothing happens. And now whenever I try to restart my computer I just get to the gray screen. I have tried every safe-startup-command-line thing out there and I don't get past the grey screen. If I hold down option/alt then I get a mouse(yay) but nothing else. If I hold down the mouse button then I get stuck at the apple symbol. So my question is if anyone has had similar problems and has fixed them. Oh ya, I also don't have my install disk with me.
i've been using programs that require some serious cpu power and i really need to know how to set any program to always run on high priority. I know theres a command you can run on terminal the "nice" and "renice" command but i only know how to set a program's priority once its already running so my question is how do you set a program so that it always runs on high priority from the start?
As it's default setting, .wmv files open up with VLC. How do I change it so it's default program is Quicktime? I have the codec installed and it plays with no problem. I know I can go into "get info" and check "always open with" but it only does it with that file and not all .wmv files
where the *#$& does one change this setting? Right now, if I close the laptop, it goes to sleep. This is bad - for presentations, running iTunes at home... But I can not find where to change this - I've been through every section of Pref's.
