MacBook Pro :: After Installing New RAM Laptop Won't Start?
Dec 7, 2014My Macbook Pro 13" Mid-2007 wont show any signs of powering on after I tried installing a second RAM card to make it have 2GB of RAM. No lights turn on, I don't hear ANY sounds coming from it, and the screen is blank. The battery is fully charged, but I still tried charging it over night but nothing changed. I've tried powering it on with it plugged in and still nothing at all. I've tried it with just its old RAM and still nothing. Then I tried resetting the SMC, but nope. After that I opened it up and looked inside to make sure i put the RAM cards in correctly and from what I can tell, I did. Then I checked to make sure the power button was ok and it looked fine, then I made sure the cable that connects the keyboard (which also happens to include the power button) was securely connected and it was. I am at my wit's end and REALLY dont want to take it in to Apple seeing as it not under warranty anymore so the price of just diagnostics would be high.

I am trying to get it going so my wife can use it. The PRAM battery has never been changed and the computer is 10 years old.

I just realized however that the code I have is wrong, and I can only get it from the guy I bought the copy from tomorrow. May 6, 2012My computer is a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Version 10.7.3, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4GB memory. Start-up has become somewhat erratic. Consistently, if I close the lid on the computer it won't restart when I reopen it. I'll have to hold the power button down for about 15 seconds, let up and then press it again. Sometimes restarting after a shutdown the computer will go through the long start-up I associate with a crash shutdown. Sometimes login start-up items don't start up. Sometimes I have to click somewhere on the screen to make the menu bar at the top of the screen visible. Overall, unexpected things keep happening. Although I don't think it probably relates, Chrome is my primary browser.

Dec 14, 2010I am not 100% sure what the offical name of the start up noise is when you turn on your Macbook, however that is all I am geeting when I turn it on. I push the power button, it makes that start up noise of the disc drive... sits... and makes the noise again... sits... makes the noise again and so on and so on. The screen doesnt change at all, just blackness. I was able to start it up once with the start up disc and I thought that was the fix, so before going to sleep I powered down. Woke up the next morning same old bs AND it will not start up off the disc again. Another time after letting it sit and try to boot up for awhile (30mins) it finally did! However after 20-30 mins the screen kind of flickered and then everything froze. Can't get it to turn on at all now. Just that noise over and over and over and over again.

Mar 8, 2009First off, let me explain the position I am in. I have the newest 13in MacBook with a 2.4Ghz hard drive. I installed Windows Vista on it recently after I got it. Many times while using Vista, all audio would stop and be replaced with crackling sounds. This would continue until I restarted. I tried going to Dell, downloading drivers for the Broadcom 802.11n WiFi Adapters and installing those, but that caused a worse problem. Windows can no longer find any networks, and when I select the Broadcom WiFi Adapters in Device Manager, it says "This device cannot start." and says it's Code 10 or something.

Jun 28, 2009Does it matter if I'm charging my MBP even when it has full battery and I am currently using it? I.e. using the charger instead of using the battery? My friend did this with his laptop and when he after 1-2 years tried using the laptop without the charger he got like 30-60 minutes of battery time. I don't want this to happen to my MBP.
