What i did was open the ipod through mycomputer (windows XP) and cut the folder that contains all my music and pasted it into mydocuments so i had full amount of memory on my ipod to use it as a memory device. I gave it to my friend to put some videos into my ipod again through mycomputer. He didnt allow the ipod to sync on his itunes. Now i have it back i plugged it into my pc and my itunes couldnt pick it up and neither can mycomputer. I left it plugged in and restarted my pc when it booted up i opened itunes and it was sort of froze, after leaving it for a minute or two my ipod cam e up on itunes but it said it was corrupt. I ran the restore over night as it was taking along time and when i cam back this morning it was still doing it! Whats wrong with my ipod?! is there any other way to system reset it? do you think my mate should have synced it with his pc?

I'm actively working in the current app when OSX automatically pulls me out and shows me something in a background app that suddenly requires attention, like a dialog box. Quite often I open or save files while working on something else, ususally in fullscreen mode. Moments later, I'm disruptively switched to a file that just opened in another application, or I'm told that something was saved, updated, installed, etc. This automatic switch interrupts my typing or commands in the app I was currently engaging, and has become a major problem.
Is there a way to keep OSX from pulling me out of my current application?

In Lion, when restarting, many apps restart as well and open up many docs, slowing startup with stuff I don't want. I have unchecked the "restore windows when quitting and re-starting" box in system preferences>general. There has been no effect. Now what?

My late 2008 MacBook (aluminum) crashed last month. I have fixed many of the items that quit working except: I can no longer automatically log in. When I go to Preferences and then to Users & Groups (Login Options) the "Click the lock to make changes" always goes to page which says "System Preferences quit unexpectedly." On that page it says Exception Type: EXE_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) and Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000. Is there a solution that does not require me to wipe the computer and reinstall from scratch?

I recently loaded Lion on my Imac. I have listed two programs for automatic log-on. But 3 other apps automatically log-on as well (Firefox, Mail, Word), even though they are not on the auto log-on list at all. How do I preven them from logging on when I start the computer?

Annoyances
1) I'll have a Chrome window open on #2 at a website to help me study vocabulary. However, when I'm at #1 and I click the Chrome icon in the dock to open a new browser to check email, it automatically takes me to desktop #2. While I can just check my email at #2, I want to keep that desktop exclusively for studying vocabulary. Is there any way to make MC treat each desktop as a separate desktop and NOT jump between desktops?
2) This seems to be a MS Office specific annoyance. I'll have a excel document open on #1 and #2. When I close the excel document on #1, MC automatically takes me to the document in #2, when I just wanted to close the #1 document and stay in #1.
3) A different scenario of the previous annoyance. There's an excel document open in #2 and I'm currently in #1. When I open an excel document MC...
- takes me to the ALREADY opened document in #2
- opens the document I wanted, but places it in #1
so that I'm in the wrong space AND not even looking at the document I just opened.
I just bought my time capsule. It works doing backups manually but the button is in 'on' and the next backup field always says 'automatic backups off'.

I have a dozen of macs connected to a mac mini server. This one is programmed to automatically switch on at 8:00 am and switch off at 8:00 pm. However, if a user is still connected at time of switchng off (8:00 pm) it cannot switch off automatically and a window appears saying another user is still connected, do you still wish to disconnect. If administrator is no more there to click yes, server does not switch off and still runs all night long. On former versions (10.4 or 10.5 ?) it worked the other way, ie other users were informed that server would be disconnected in the next one minute and that they had to save their work.
Is there a solution to come back to a similar way of proceeding?

I have 3 email accounts that I have added to my Mac Mail. It seems to have chosen my school email account as the default email so every time I send an email, it says it's coming from this school account. I have a primary gmail account that I would like to use as a default. Is there a way to stop this automatic selection every time I compose a message? Even if I select the account I want to use when I compose a new email message, it still sends it out showing the wrong account as the sender.

I have two old hard drives from windows xp machines (one laptop, one desktop). the desktop is so slow it is unusable and the laptop is dead (wont turn on). I want to move data from both drives to my new macbook. Is there any way to do this. I've heard of, and may not understand, how to slave a hard drive, but I have not learned if this is possible between different operating systems.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!
I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?
I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this!

View 6 Replies View Relatedi have a G4 with an m-audio revolution 7.1 sound card. the speakers are cambridge soundworks 510D and the receiver is an old denon avr-1403. i have an spdif cable but the problem is my speakers are "computer" speakers so i cant just go from the digital out on my sound card to the digital in on the receiver and plug my speakers/sub into the receiver. and here's a pic of the back of the sub on the 510D showing the inputs

It gets as far as putting the icon in the dock then it crashes with the message: "The application Safari quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. It'd be nice to use safari again and my software update says this when I run it. "A networking error has occurred: Error NSURLError Domain -1100 (-1100). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again. Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem."

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe first time I connected to my HDTV using a mini displayport-dvi and a dvi-hdmi adapter, it worked flawlessly. Stupidly, I set my TV to a resolution it couldn't support. Now the screen only turns blue until System Preferences eventually crashes and the TV gets no signal.
I've tried clearing my PRAM, deleting the profile in the colorsync folder, and even deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist out of desperation. I've confirmed that it's not a problem with the adapters by successfully getting another HDTV to work. Where could could OS X be storing the display's settings?
