OS X V10.7 Lion :: Cannot Open Excel Spread Sheets On MacPro
Apr 17, 2012I purchased my MacPro last November. I loaded NUMBERS on my macnine as well as PAGES, and KEYNOTE. I was determined to learn these programs and not rely on using MS OFFICE on my Mac. The rest of my office is still using PC/s and therefore when I am sent a document, it is with MS OFFICE. Up until the first of March, I was able to access all documents sent to me, but sometime in March, EXCEL files sent to me gets an error message:Â
This document was created with an unsupported version of Excel. Only documents created with Excel ’97 or later can be opened.Â
It seems to associate to the upgrade that came out for LION during that month. I have tried everything. My office has tried sending in every format without success. WHAT CAUSED THE CHANGE?

Feb 16, 2010I am new to Mac so bear with me. I am running Microsoft Office for Mac 2004. I run a Nascar league and have 36 separate spread sheets for each race. They are all stored in a folder in my documents, just like when I had a PC. The problem is that when I try to open the sheet from documents folder by double clicking it the header or toolbar for excel opens but not the spread sheet. The only way I can get the spread sheet to open is by clicking on the open folder symbol on the toolbar and then a pop up window appears that looks like finder, and then I have to choose the file again.
Why can't you just open the file from documents folder.
Also when I attach the spreadsheet to an email, then double click the attachment on the email, the spreadsheet won't open either. I have asked the guys in my one to one class and none of them seem to know what the problem is. One teacher suggested to re-install Office,

Apr 22, 2010I have a 2009 MacBook Laptop and run Mac OS X version 10.5.8. I also bought the Microsoft for Mac package (cost about $90) a while back because I was going back to school. So I basically use Microsoft Word as my word processor/document software. I play guitar and whenever I figure the chords out to a new song, I frequently create a new document where I paste the lyrics and then add the chords in the appropriate places. Then I can always pull up that song and play it. So its kinda like sheet music. Also, I'll point out that I'm not talking about tabbing a song,...which really means identifying individual notes that are picked. I always try and get the song on one page so I can play the entire song without having to scroll down half-way through. Even when I eliminate the margins, view the page full screen, etc....frustrated that SO much of the screen is being wasted. The actual words in the document in reality only take up a small portion of the screen...making it tough to read,...especially if I lose my place.
Any guitar players out there (or otherwise) know of any better applications or word processors that would allow me to maximize the amount of lyrics that would fit on the screen? Perhaps the solution lies in a different way of configuring or viewing Microsoft Word? Hopefully the question is clear enough. How to fit the most amount of text onto one page and then have that page take up the entire screen without wasted space. I'm thinking that no matter what suggestions I get, one good tactic would somehow involve creating columns or even putting two page side by side (neither of which I'm sure how to do).

Jul 10, 2008Has anyone else experienced this problem with Excel 2008 after installing SP1? Attempting to open any existing spreadsheet fails, with Excel just opening a blank sheet instead. Microsoft were "aware of a problem" with SP1 which they claimed to have fixed with update 12.1.1, but as per usual and what we should perhaps expect with Microsoft, the "fix" makes no difference whatsoever, and I still can't open any of my existing spreadsheets! Their "workaround" also has no effect. I am running an Intel Mac with OS X 10.5.4 and Office 2008 12.1.1

Apr 21, 2012I was recently able to access a web site until about a week or two ago when the loading bar in safar would load about 1/16 of the way. I am using lion, and using safari as my web browser. I've tried chrome and firefox, still no luck. I can access the site through my iPhone and iPad but not my iMac.

May 20, 2012There are a couple of websites I want to restrict my younger children from. I tried to enter them in the parental controls in System Preferences using the "Try to limit access to adult websties automatically" option, and entering the sites I wanted to restrict them from. What I got was kids asking me every five seconds to approve another website - it seems that only sites on the approved list under Customize were allowed. That isn't what I wanted. I wanted only to enter two or three sites that they are specifically precluded from.

May 23, 2012I have Lion Server 10.7 running on a quad core mac server. Everything is working internally and I can access all the services etc. I have purchased a ssl certificate for the server. With all the correct port forwards in place (using a pfsense router) I can not get any external access to work no matter what I do. I have other servers behind this router and they all work. It seems to be just a OSX thing.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Access All Shared Systems With 10.7.4
Jun 8, 2012A few days ago we added a few new iMacs running 10.7.4 (currently). We set up all our network shares to various servers using SMB, with an edited hosts file in /etc. For the first few days, we were able to connect without an issue. Today however, our shares won't connect using SMB and when viewing all shared systems, the list has truncated to only 6 items from 30 or 40. We can connect using IP addresses, but this creates a conflict with some applications that we use. Restarting has no resolved the issue. We've tried many different "fixes", but we nothing has worked yet.

After review on the forum here. Did try to verify & fixed the disc, re-setup a TM link wirelessly & wired. Delete com.apple.TimeMachine.plist THEN try again to backup. Still back to square one. Â
Looks like I am out of options before I have "format" the disc like a window user. BTW, I have the FileVault on & not able to turn off since not enough space left. And the worst part is I cannot move mush to spare space of extra 23G....So I have not tried if the FileVault would be the issue of all this under Lion or not..

Apr 3, 2012Yesterday I installed the latest update of iPhoto 9.2.3 on my MacBook pro running 10.7.3 To my surprise I cannot access iPhoto anymore and get the error log (as hereunder) and the warning that I may have to reinstall the application. I live quite remote and have to drive 1,5 hours to the nearest Apple store and i feel that I should be able to solve this.for now I do not understand how to reinstall if all software was updated.Â

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Access PC Shared External USB HD With Lion
Apr 8, 2012I have a PC on my network that has a secondary internal hard drive and an external USB 2.0 hard drive that are both shared on the network. From my MacBook Pro with Lion, I have no problem accessing the C and second internal drives, but cannot access the USB external drive from the Mac. I have no problem accessing the external drive from my 2 other PC's on the network. The external drive has the exact same sharing settings as every other internal drive on my network.
All PC's are running Windows 7 and this is a home network. I don't have any servers or anything running. I just set up basic file sharing so that I can access any drive of any PC from any other computer on my network. The Mac just says "The operation can't be completed because the original item for "T" can't be found." when trying to access the external. Lastly, the Mac is on wifi, not ethernet.
