OS X V10.7 Lion :: When I Use Comand R My System Freezes Up
May 14, 2012I am using OnyX and it says I need to repair my startup Disk. When I do Comm +R my system freezes up and I can not do anything.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Sharing System Preferences Freezes Entire System
Jul 3, 2012I recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!
I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?
I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this!

Power Mac G5 :: System Freezes Due To Overheating?
Dec 18, 2007Over the last few months I've noticed a trend with my dual 2GHz G5 at home, it often locks up and the fans go full-throttle. It sometimes happens when I'm using it and often when I leave it idling for a while. I've noticed that the CPU A and CPU B temperatures start around 120 degrees F when the machine is first powered up and steadily climbs to around 150. Is that normal? The dual 1.8GHz G5 I have at the office doesn't run hotter than 110 degrees. The fans haven't failed. Is there a coolant link? Is there anything I can do to diagnose this, or do I simply need to call AppleCare?

Dec 19, 2010whenever i try to remove something like growl or hyperdock from the other section of the system preferences pane, system preferences freezes. it has done this since whenever i first installed snow leopard on my computer. is this a snow leopard bug that apple has never fixed or should i try a system restore from the 10.6 disks.

Jul 3, 2009I recently upgraded from my Macbook to a refurbished Macbook Pro and since the day I got it it has been giving me problems. Applications quite suddenly all the time and the system freezes and runs sluggish. The biggest prob is the display. It goes black and won't come back on. Sometimes when it goes blank you can see faintly if you look carefully and you can hear sounds. It slowly deteriorates from a once a week occurrence to a daily one until it won't turn on at all. I reinstall everything once a month. I took my computer to the mac store they ran all the diagnostic tests they have and said it is not a hardware problem. I have now wiped out all of my non-apple applications and the problem is back.

I gave it a day, and managed to complete some software updates the next time I logged in, after which it started working fine again. Now, however, it KEEPS freezing every ten seconds no matter what I'm doing. The worst part is, it freezes for about five seconds (the pointer becomes a pinwheel, which keeps rotating, as if my laptop's processing something), and then it starts working again. Sep 13, 2010Say an app has crashed and I then bring up the force quit dialog. I then select the app I want to kill, and press the force quit button. Now as the little popup that says "Are you sure you want to force quit" is coming down, my machine freezes. This has happened 3 times exactly the same way. Other than that, the machine is smooth as clockwork. I'm kinda thinking there is some sort of GFX card bug or something?

OS X :: System Preferences Freezes When Choose Network?
Apr 1, 2009Been a rough two weeks. I had the issue of my iMac not loading passed the grey screen. No keystrokes were working so I had to bring it in to get repaired. I was told some optic something cable had to be replaced.
Well, initially that didn't work but it just ended up taking forever too boot. 20 or 30 minutes. Now it is loading fine and Windows is also loading fine with bootcamp.
However, I can't get in to turn on my USB wireless adaptor for Sprint. I can open the system preferences and I can also go in to any other option without problems, but if I click "Network" it says Loading Network, then hangs up. I need to force quit and retry. Same results. Anyone know how to repair that? I have tried Disk Utility and it says no problems. Diskwarrior doesn't let me do much since I am booted to that drive.
OS X :: Updated To 10.5.7 - Icons Missing And System Freezes
Jun 2, 2009I've been experience intermediate issues ranging from not showing icons standard in OSX (such as in my shared devices, HardDrive icons tha tmount on the desktop, etc) this is a unibody 2.4ghz i got in February that came with 10.5.5 and used combo updates on each update...ive done a blank install from scratch with nothing on it and i still experience the missing icon issues that dont happen on other unibody mbps i use ??
((the other macbook pro im connecting to is an identical model 2.4 and the other one is a unibody 17, they display the proper icons under 10.5.7, unlike shown below))
My system gets random freezes even when nothing but the browser, word or small applications, it will beachball for aboud 30seconds to 2minutes even after a clean install and a combo straight to 10.5.7 any ideas on these issues? Am I the only one who is having these missing icon issues...even after a clean isntall with the original OSX Install Discs?
OS X :: Unable To Rip DVDs / System Freezes And Nothing Works
Jun 2, 2009I've had this white MacBook for less than 6 months and it has froze on me multiple times already. I took it to the Mac store and they said to put the OSX discs in to get the original files, cause they thought there might be a corrupted file. So I tried that and today it froze again.
I looked at the logs and the programs that make it freeze are Osex and Macthe Ripper. The whole computer freezes where the keyboard and mouse don't work. I can only shut down the computer with the power button. I'm trying to back up my discs so I can put away my originals. This is my first Mac and didn't think this would be happening. I tried fixing the permissions, restarting, and loading the original discs. I deleted Osex and this is my first freeze with MactheRipper. Software issue? Should I just use a paid program?
IMac :: Replaced HD But System Freezes On Startup
Nov 10, 2009I have a early 09 iMac 2.93Ghz with 6GB of ram. About a month ago it kept freezing at the grey startup screen. I took it to Apple and two trips to Apple later my hard drive was replaced. One month later here I am and the problem is happening again, the same exact problem. I turn on the iMac it goes to the grey screen, the beach ball "like" thing starts spinning and then it freezes in the middle of it and I have to do a hard power off(hold down the power button). Any ideas!? I already scheduled a appointment with Apple tomorrow afternoon but its a royal pain in the a** to keep shuffling my iMac between home and the Apple store. This will be my 4th trip in for the same problem, btw.

Jan 5, 2010So my Macbook pro started to stall for 10 seconds or so every few minutes beginning yesterday. Like I am just surfing the net, and it freezes completely for 10 seconds, than everything is back to normal. I don't know what to do to remedy the problem. I have Applecare so I could send it in, but wondering first if anyone has had this problem and knows a quick fix before I send it in.

When I try to turn on or restart my iMac I get vertical rows of pixelated lines across my monitor on the white startup background with the apple logo and it will either freeze up or the background turns gray and I get a message that says I should restart my computer. This has also happened when restarting using the Apple hardware test (which doesn't report any errors).

Mar 20, 2008My dads MacBook Pro started acting weird first the screen would freeze up and the cursor could still move but there would be about an inch wide black line that would follow on top of the cursor wherever you moved it.
We thought it was a software problem so we booted it up off an external drive and it did the same thing after a few seconds of loading the finder, now it won't even boot, it loads the white screen with the apple, then it stops at the blue screen where it usually shows the loading of everything, once in a while it will get past that but it freezes with black lines over the cursor.
I've tried zapping the pram and i've held the power button down till it beeps i've also reset the pmu, so im out of ideas.

May 29, 2012I have been having a problem that is not application-specific, and not Lion specific. This only happens on my 2009 iMac 24 running Lion 10.7.4. (I also run Lion on my 2011 MBP and have not had this problem.) It doesn't matter whether I'm in iTunes, Safari, Logic, Pages... running applications alone or in combination.It doesn't happen right away. It's usually after I've been active on the computer for at least an hour. I will try to describe it the best way I can:
1. I could be browsing Safari, for instance. I'll notice that a small section of my desktop starts "growing" red, green, and/or blue pixels. If left untouched, the pixels overtake about 70% of the display until the computer freezes. Now, if i click anywhere on my screen -- in Safari or on the desktop -- whatever the mouse is pointing at will redraw itself. Meanwhile, the screen starts blinking rapidly and basically, has a tantrumI can't Force Quit, Restart, Shut Down, or any other activity. The only solution is to power it down using the power switch.
2. I'm working on music in Logic Pro. When I have Logic running, it usually spans the entire display. Within the Logic screen I'll see a small section of these red, green, and/or blue pixels. (Well by now, I know what's coming so I immediately save my work before the system freezes.) I quit out of Logic, but the pixels continue to take over my desktop. If left on it's own it starts going berserk as described above. Eventually the system freezes and I have to power down
This started happening last month. Two things happend last month: (a) I switched my internet service and combined my internet connection with my land line. I had previously been using a dedicated line for internet. (b) My service agreement expired on the iMac... go figure!

Mac Pro :: Getting Strange Designs And System Freezes On Boot Up
Jun 9, 2012I was using my mac pro 3.2 octo from 2009 without any troubles. Recently it started giving non stop trouble. I have 2 gb ram from the factory and another 2 from 3rd party. My problem is when I boot my mac I am getting some strange vague designs and it freezes. I tried shifting the boot hard disk from slot 1 to slot 2, booting with either set of ram, changing the graphic card slot etc.

IMac :: System Completely Freezes At Random Times
Feb 4, 2009The last 2 days my iMac has completely frozen on me at random times. Frozen meaning, no mouse movement, no keyboard activity (caps lock not responding) and no OSX activity whatsoever. Temp at the time 41C, CPU Usage at 21% or smth, Fan speed at around 1200rpm. However, I don't get the infamous kernel panic error. I haven't changed anything hardware wise. I did have a couple of months ago the graphics glitch problem. Last software update was the iWork one. iMac is Aluminum 20' with C2D 2.4 and ATi 2600 Pro.

Dec 7, 2009A few months ago I had a problem with my Macbook Pro, (late 2009 model, 15" 2.53 ghz) that many users with Snow Leopard have, the random 30 second freezes. I simply reset the PRAM and SMC and I never encountered it again. Now, out of the blue, on Sunday (yesterday), I started experiencing these hangs again, but worse. The night before I had been browsing the web and my battery went to reserve and shut down, so I plugged it in and when I awoke and turned it on I started experiencing problems. I figured I would try the same fix, and it almost seemed to make the problem worse. Now if I shut down the computer via "apple -> shut down", then turn it back on and log in etc., from the first few seconds the machine hangs. If I open a folder I get the immediate beach-ball and the machine is un-responsive for anywhere from 1 minute - 5+ minutes.
I have read a lot of fixes for this problem, but most of the people's problems resulted from using Safari or Spotlight. I strictly use Firefox and very rarely even open Safari, and I think I've used Spotlight maybe 3 times total, none in the past few months. So far the things I've tried are:
- Reset PRAM
- Reset SMC
- Run Disc Utility and verify, repair etc. (from SL install disc)
So I'm wondering right now what can I do? Its finals week right now and im in college so wiping my HD is not an option. I feel like there is just something hanging the computer but I can't find the culprit.
Hardware :: System Freezes Or Hangs On Boot / Startup
Apr 27, 2008I have a mac pro running leopard (purchased in 2/08) and it was running beautifully for almost 2 months with no hangs, crashes or freezes. Then, for some reason, today when I turned it on, it would not boot. It would get to the apple logo, then just sit there for a few minutes, then reboot itself and the same thing would happen. I pulled out the ethernet cable, unplugged all usb except keyboard/mouse and it would then (sometimes) boot into the system, log me in and present me with the UI.
I then quickly performed a soft reboot and it would get to the desktop. However, I can only use it for anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes before it would completely lockup. The clock freezes, the mouse freezes and it just sits there forever. I have tried booting into Vista (BootCamp) and it also freezes before startup is complete. If I hold down Option and then select the System disk, it will either just hang forever or get to the desktop and then freeze again....................

MacBook Pro :: System Preferences Freezes Whenever Editing Enabled
Mar 31, 2012I am having some trouble with my MBP early 2011. It's currently running 10.7.3. I have been trying to open system preferences to modify some things, but it freezes whenever I enable editing. System Preferences has been crashing at any point that I have to enter an Admin password. I noticed that this just started happening recently, and I would really not like to reinstall Lion, as my internet will take it 3-4 days to download.
I noticed that this problem arose after I tried to remove MySQL Community Server for Mac, and I removed the App, and all of the pertaining folders/files with Terminal. It could also be a virus, but I am almost positive it is something to do with MySQL. Any way that I can somehow stop System Preferences from freezing. I have already used multiple anti-virus programs to try to get rid of malicious files, and I have tried to repair system permissions numerous times.
