I am unable to put my G5 Power Mac to Sleep. I have attempted to make adjustments through Energy Saver but any changes freezes System Preferences. The spinning wheel begins and I need to Force Quit System Preferences.

There used to be an option for a UPS configuration under System Preferences - Engery Saver for previous versions of OS X. Can this feature still be accessed for OS X 10.9, and if so, how and where?

I have my Energy Saver preference set to turn off my monitor after 20 minutes of idle time. But the display never goes off.
Energy Saver used to work, now it doesn't and I have no idea why not, or what changed.

When I open system preferences pane, desktop and screen saver, it freezes and I get the spinning beachball. This does not happen with any of the other system preferences.

You can automatically shut down or start up your mac at anytime you like.
simply go to energy saver preferences>and click schedule
Why my mac can't do so? Any ideas?I did set the day and time but it seems nothing did happen. What did I do wrong?
Sleeps just fine if i close the lid or if i go to apple --> sleep, but it will not go to sleep by itself according to the preferences in energy saver. Never happened on my old Macbook pro. I've looked through the sleep page on apple's site, but still cant figure it out. [URL].
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try and open up my energy saver preferences a pop up appears "Could not install (null) preferences pane". The energy saver preferences is not in my system preferences anymore I have to spotlight search to try and open it. I have the highest update on all of my settings for my macbook pro (one of the original 13" pros from when they changed the macbook unibody to the macbook pro). I've tried googling and nothing really substantial comes up or I just cannot understand it. I've tried repairing disk permissions etc.

I have found that it's possible to manually change graphic power settings within energy saver, but is there just that one setting? I would have hoped for an automatic change of settings depending if you are working on mains or battery. Unrelated, does a Mac have a delete key?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with System Preferences freezing up when selecting Desktop & Screen Saver. Everything else on the system works fine. I loaded a picture on the Macintosh HD Device (all other pictures are under a specific user account) to access it as a desktop background. The correct picture appears as the desktop background, but I want to change the picture. As soon as I select Desktop & Screen Saver under System Preferences the window freezes. The only way to unfreeze is to select something else on the Dock (which doesn't magnify as it normally does), then close that and go to back to System Preference and then close it. Or select something else from the dock and then Force Quit the Systems Preferences.
I will get an error message and the problem details (which I know VERY little about) show an Exception Type:
EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) and
Exception Code: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS
If that helps.
I tried sending the picture to the trash and then reloading it, but that didn't help either.
Has anyone else found that their screensaver system preferences pane crashes to the desktop when you try to access it? Ever since I upgraded to 10.5.6 I have had this problem. My screensaver is now just a black screen and I can't change it because the preference pane crashes everytime. Spaces, expose and dashboard seem to now only work when they want and its not very often. I have reinstalled 10.5.6 using the combo update to see if that fixes things but it doesnt. I have been send all the crash reports to Apple. This is REALLY getting me mad now! Im on a PMG5 dual 1.8. Never had any problems with it until 10.5.6 came along. I have an ATI X800XT could the update of the ATI stuff in 10.5.6 be causing all this crap? I am reluctant to do a clean install because it will take me days to get all my apps back and how I have them set up now plus I don't think it will make the slightest bit of difference as the combo update hasn't.

My dad just bought the $1999 model of the new MacBook Pro a few days ago. Previously he had a MacBook Pro with a 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo processor in it. We used target disk mode to transfer all of the data over and everything went fine. The only problem now is in System Preferences when using the screen savers his favorite iTunes album artwork screen saver is not working saying there is no album artwork in iTunes which isn't true (I checked ). When in that preference it causes System Preferences to slow down to the point where I need to force quit it and it causes the application to crash.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!
I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?
I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this!

If I replace my mid-2007 iMac's internal HDD with an SSD, will Snow Leopard still present me with the "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" checkbox on the Energy Saver power settings screen? If so, do I tick it or not? I will still have an HDD for Time Machine connected via FW800.

I can't seem to do this because when I change it on one power source it automatically changes it on the other power source. Is there something obvious I am missing - I have searched the forums in vain. (I have checked that I don't need any software updates).

Followed the directions for set up properly, except for the part about plugging a green plug into the green audio slot. I know that there is a green plug in on PC's, but on my macbook pro, the only slot I think would make sense to plug into would be the one in front of my headphone slot. After plugging this in, I go to my preferences or whatever, and then go to audio, and the only thing listed is internal speakers...
The "energy" issue... I have my energy saving issues set to never put hard disks to sleep, to not put the computer to sleep etc.... And when listening to iTunes, or just letting the computer set, it logs me out... I have the settings to never shut off when plugged in, and when on battery....
I have a new issue with my Mac Pro (3,1 - 2008), it just popped up (and I don't think it was caused by 10.6.3, I remember this working correctly after it was installed)I have two monitors connected via DVI to a flashed XFX 4870. The 4870 has never given me any trouble.the Energy Saver settings, I usually set the machine to never sleep, and the displays to sleep after 5 minutes. This used to work great, never had any trouble with it, ever. Now, the displays don't go to sleep after 5 minutes, they just stay on with a screensaver.

whenever i try to remove something like growl or hyperdock from the other section of the system preferences pane, system preferences freezes. it has done this since whenever i first installed snow leopard on my computer. is this a snow leopard bug that apple has never fixed or should i try a system restore from the 10.6 disks.

im using the Energy Saver preference pane which came with the new MacBook's Leopard install and i want to put back the old one back which came with Leopard installed on my Core Duo MacBook Pro but i lost my back up! so i want to know if the version from 10.5.0 is the same as 10.5.6. i hope i made sense .
p.s. i dont backup the system with Time Machine so i cant go back in Time and get it .
