OS X V10.7 Lion :: Trim A Few Seconds Off Front And End Of An MP3?
Apr 23, 2012
How can I trim a few seconds off the front and end of an MP3? I looked at GarageBand but it wants to create a new projects and all sorts of stuff that aren't related to this simple task.
I purchased an Intel 34nm 160GB SSD 12 months ago to install in my MBP 13". It has been an excellent drive, however, started to significantly slow down over the last few months. The only way I was able to recover to original speeds was by formatting the entire drive as a windows drive and running the Intel SSD Toolbox app in Win 7 (manual trim command). Finally I reinstalled OSX and voila drive was as fast as when I initially purchased it.Either Intel needs to release a OSX compatible toolbox app or Apple needs to build the functionality into OSX.I know this has been a topic before but thought I'd share my experience.
I upgraded to Lion and sadly, Front Row is not supported. I somehow found the Front Row app in my systems folder and moved it to my Applications folder. Front Row now shows up in my applications folder, as well as Launchpad. However, when I go into Front Row, it does not recognize any of my media from iTunes. I tried out this website: [URL]..blog/frontrowenablerforlion to no avail. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to make Front Row work in OS X Lion.
Any news of Front Row in Lion? Apple is selling the mac mini without any new interface? Apple really needs to offer us something over front row which I don't think has been updated since 2007. So Apple how about it?
I am using a Mac Mini with a Realtek USB wireless dongle to connect to the internet. The software and drivers appear connected perfectly and i see the wireless utility and I can access my wireless network, which says signal strength 100%. I connect to it and it accepts the wireless key. Says connected. Then after a few seconds the connection is lost and it says 'Disconnected'. A few seconds later it connects then disconnects and this continues indefinitely but Safari never allows me to access any webpages.

I have a client who just got a new MBP, so today was the first day he had it on the all windows network. There's shares on a 2008 R2 server that, on my identical MBP model, I can map just fine with command+K, using smb://servername or smb://ipaddress Both work fine for me, and prompt me for credentials.
Oh his new one though, it bombs. In the connection box after you hit return, instead of showing "connecting to smb://blahblah" it shows "connecting to afp://smb://blahblah" For some reason, even though I am manually specifying SMB:// as the target, it still prepends AFP:// in front of that AFTER we try to connect.
Only thing I've found all morning searching is someone who told another user having a similar issue to use lower case, not upper case. Since we were already using lower case, not helping, and using upper case made no difference either.
What can I do to kill this AFP:// automatically putting itself in front of the SMB:// As I said, 2008R2 server and windows AD netwtork, neither mac is part of the domain. Just using passthrough authentication (which worked fine on his previous model Core2 Duo MBP and still works fine on my 2011 15" quad core i7 MBP with current Lion).
What's really frustrating is I hit this once before a few years ago when I first switched from a PC based laptop to my first MBP, and while I found an answer quickly back then, this time I'm not finding the answer anywhere.

I have a Lyon Server and I see on the system log every 10 seconds a crash of a process I cannot (yet) identify.I would like to upload a log but I do not see any upload possibility - so I pasted this here below. Furthermore the computer does not witch into the sleep mode.. [code]

When I select shut down, the computer goes off and comes on again in a few seconds. It doesn't come on quickly like it does when I select restart. It's like a ghost is in there.
Last night all my desktop icons just disappeared all of a sudden, I restarted my laptop and they came back but when I try to click and drag anything on my desktop or copy something between finder windows, they just disappear again and Finder crashes. I downloaded the newest update and installed it, which didn't fix the problem so I found a similar problem on another forum and tried doing what they recommended (which was to delete the Cache folder and some files from the library and restart the computer) After I restarted, finder started crashing every 2-3 seconds and giving me a message saying that Finder quit unexpectadly while trying to restore it's windows.
I have a late 2008 unibody MacBook, 4GB RAM, 1TB HD, 2GHz dual core processor.
I need to erase the soundtrack from a movie, using the QT X player in Snow Leopard. Can this be done, without using the QT 7 player? Also, how can I remove a video part in the middle of a movie, using the QT X player? Apparently, I can only remove the start and end parts, using the trim option (command-T).
How long/soon do you guys think we have to wait till OS X gets TRIM support? Do you think we will get it in 10.6.5 or do you think we will have to wait till 10.7?
I recently updated to a Macbook pro 15" with 1TB SSD, should I use TRIM enabler? I have read conflicting information online, and am unsure if I should do this. What are the advantages? What are the dis-advantages? What is the process?

What is the significance of the Mac OS X 10.6 not having trim support for SSD drives? I was looking at Crucial's C300 drives, but then I read about trim support being really important.
I've spent the best part of the day researching SSD drives, I'm wanting to pop one in my MBP.I've been looking at the OCZ Vertex and also the Intel X-25M Gen 2.I've set my heart on getting the OCZ but after spending a good hour on their forums, it seems that (like all other drives) there isn't a 'wiper' tool available for OSX.Should this affect my decision? No-one knows if Snow Leopard will support TRIM and I don't want to left with a drive that has lost most of it's umph after a few weeks.I don't claim to know all the details of TRIM (I'm a mere-mortal wanting faster performance), so please feel free to put my mind at ease
i'm planning to buy a macbook as soon as they appear with Core i5 processors, and since i want teh fastest most reliable experience possible, im also getting an SSD.After using a Solid State Disk with my windows xp machine, i've realized that without TRIM, write performance degrades considerably. This leads me to ask two questions, and any help is greatly appreciated:1. Will this SSD work if i format it as a mac drive?256GB Samsung SSD - its gotten good reviews off amazon, but i wana ask the experts (macrumors community
First post so I apologize for any rules I may be breaking. A lot of discussion on this forum has centered around SSD's and their use. From what I have gathered, the price is quite high, but the speed is impressive. I am going to university next year and am looking for a new laptop. I have used Windows all my life and don't have anything that really requires OSX (graphics applications, etc). However, I like the design of the MBP and want something high quality that will last me 4 years. The SSD's are looking pretty appealing for the sheer speed, but OSX doesn't support TRIM, which could affect future speeds.
So after knowing nothing about SSDs I finally ordered this one for my 2010 i5 MBP.

I have searched and I know Snow Leopard doesn't support TRIM yet but I was wondering if I use boot camp and install Windows 7 won't TRIM be available then? I can install all the software that came with the SSD under Windows. So my question is if I do that will the Trim feature only work on the Windows 7 partition or the entire drive?
I own a MBP 13" early 2011 model I just recently Upgraded my 320GB hard drive to an intel 520 SSD (240gb). After setting up lion 10.7.3 i realized that TRIM was not enabled by default. after searching around I found a way to enable it. However, I've also read that alot of sandforce 2281 controllers have their own form of garbage collection. intel uses some custom firmware they written so would it be benificial if i enable trim or not?

I'm converting stuff with Handbrake using Apple TV preset for my iPhone 4 and 1G Apple TV. Works great.
However, what app for Mac is there to then trim the video? I want to trim the start and end as sometimes ends up being about 15mins, and I never watch the whole credits on end.
Preferably free or low cost. I have iMovie 09 but think this will re-encode the file? I just want to trim it.
