Applications :: How To Trim Handbrake Apple Videos
Oct 20, 2010
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)
I'm converting stuff with Handbrake using Apple TV preset for my iPhone 4 and 1G Apple TV. Works great.
However, what app for Mac is there to then trim the video? I want to trim the start and end as sometimes ends up being about 15mins, and I never watch the whole credits on end.
Preferably free or low cost. I have iMovie 09 but think this will re-encode the file? I just want to trim it.

The only problem I'm having so far is converting videos for my Nokia N810 (Internet Tablet). I used handbrake to rip my personal dvd's and tried using Internet Tablet Video Converter to convert the AVI files for viewing on my N810. When the final file is transfer, all I can see on my tablet is a blank screen, no audio, the file doesn't seem to play at all. Does anyone have the correct handbrake settings for my issue?

Used to run Flip4Mac Pro Version 2.2.3.7 with Quicktime 7 Pro on Leopard.Upgraded to Snow Leopard and got the 'Quicktime must be installed on this machine...' messages. OK, fair enough. Known issue.
Installed the Snow Leopard compatible 2.3.0.11-BETA with Pro licence but now have lost the ability to trim movies once they are opened in the Quicktime X window. However, if I navigate and open with Quicktime 7 Pro I can trim them.
Can anyone explain I should expect to happening and/or if this a bug or what?

I purchased an Intel 34nm 160GB SSD 12 months ago to install in my MBP 13". It has been an excellent drive, however, started to significantly slow down over the last few months. The only way I was able to recover to original speeds was by formatting the entire drive as a windows drive and running the Intel SSD Toolbox app in Win 7 (manual trim command). Finally I reinstalled OSX and voila drive was as fast as when I initially purchased it.Either Intel needs to release a OSX compatible toolbox app or Apple needs to build the functionality into OSX.I know this has been a topic before but thought I'd share my experience.

I own a MBP 13" early 2011 model I just recently Upgraded my 320GB hard drive to an intel 520 SSD (240gb). After setting up lion 10.7.3 i realized that TRIM was not enabled by default. after searching around I found a way to enable it. However, I've also read that alot of sandforce 2281 controllers have their own form of garbage collection. intel uses some custom firmware they written so would it be benificial if i enable trim or not?
Info:
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

Apple may be laying the foundation for TRIM support in future Macs, a technology that should allow their solid state flash drives to maintain optimal performance throughout the life span of the systems. The Mac maker's most recent 13-inch MacBook Pros display an option for TRIM support in their system profilers on SSD-equipped models, one which isn't present in either the second-generation unibody 15-inch MacBook Pros or the latest refresh sporting Intel's Core i5 and Core i7 processors.TRIM is essentially a command that lets operating systems like Mac OS X inform SSDs of which blocks of pre-written data are no longer in use, allowing them to be wiped clean internally.

I'm dissapointed with the current Handbrake 0.9.2 version as it is about 3 times slower to encode at the same settings I used in 0.8.5b1. I was googling around for the download link, but all of them either point to the current 0.9.2 or give the 404 error.Foolish me to delete 0.8.5b1 dmg from my HD after I got 0.9.2...Or if somebody has the 0.8.5b1 version could he sent it to me? I'm afraid I might have caused damage to my 4870 card while running handbrake for hours and hours.Could someone please check their GPU temp at idle, and then check it when running handbrake? The reason is because I want to see if handbrake puts any sort of load on the GPU at all. I can't do this because for some reason iStat Pro and Temperature Monitor cannot see the GPU temp nor GPU Fan Speed on the new MacPro's.

Bought a new Macbook Pro in December. 17''/ 2.53 Ghz i5 / 4GB ram.
Handbrake installed (Version 0.9.5 i386 (2011010300))
DVD drive is locked to R2 at the moment. Rips R2 discs no problem but Handbrake just locks up halfway through scanning any R1 disc.

I'm hoping someone here might have encountered this issue before and have some kind of a workaround or solution...I've attempted to rip Rocky Balboa (a DVD I own) using Handbrake. It detects all of the titles (for some reason there are 99!) and automatically selects the right one, which shows as 1 hour 42 minutes. Also, all the chapters are selected (1 through 28) However, when I try to rip it, the resulting file is only about 3 minutes long - it's just the very beginning

I'm using handbrake to rip my dvd library.
Quicktime preset.
It's been working fine, have no complaints.
However, recently I've been attempting to burn a dvd with some of the moviesthat I ripped using handbrake. This is where the problems began.
I tried burning a few episodes of a TV series to a DVD using iDvd program... it said that the dvd only had space for 3 300mb episodes. Somehow the project info window said that those three episodes where somewhere in the window of 4gb. And when I did try to burn the dvd, the encoding process took quite literally an eon. Solutions? Why is it that the iDvd program makes the files so huge? Why does the encoding take so long? I don't need anything fancy, I'm simply trying to get my .mp4 library into a form watchable from a dvd player.
I also had a similar problem with itunes, trying to import the movies to watch on my ipod video. It transferred into itunes just fine, but when I tried to load it onto the ipod, it said that it wasn't the right format. It then began to encode the movie, and I let it run all night, to come out the next morning and find it only 25% completed. Anyone know of a way to get large (2gb max) .mp4 files onto an ipod easily?

While using Handbrake on a friend's Early 2009 MBP (version 0.9.4), and setting the frame rate to NTSC (29.97 fps), with a good amount of video filters on, the transcode was only coming in at around 8 fps.
This also happens on my quad-core windows PC, though it comes in now at around 21 fps (w/ all the same settings).
Is there a way to have handbrake encode at a certain framerate, but then take longer in order to do so, instead of the norm, where it just encodes and the frame rate's lower?

What kind of fps should I expect for video conversion on a 2010 macbook pro with an i7. I'm converting a 640x480 res video at 70% constant quality to .mp4 and I'm getting around 50-55 fps. Is that alright?

I have a wedding dvd (about 3 hours long) which i'd like to share with the family on my Apple TV/Mac (don't have a dvd player) etc... results in a file which cannot be played.
I've ripped using the Regular and also AppleTV presets. Both generate a m4v file (about 10gb file)... but it just won't play in OS X... doesn't work with Preview, iTunes, Quicktime, VLC.. nada...
Searching the forums, I found a post which suggested renaming the m4v to mp4, but this didn't have any effect either.
Is the filesize too big? The icon of the generated file says "MPEG4 M4V, OPEN WITH ITUNES".
At first I thought the file was corrupt, but I have ripped it a few times now, all with the same outcome.

I recently downloaded some tv shows from the internet. I converted one show (21 minutes) to watch later on my iphone. I first used the convert option on roxio toast and this procedure took almost 2 hours. Then out of curiosity i did the same thing on handbrake. Handbrake only took 15 minutes. Also the quality from the handbrake app looks a whole lot better. So i guess my question is why is handbrake so much better with a free app?

Not that I endorse the use of bittorrents, I was just wondering if there was anyway I could replicate their size using handbrake and get the same quality/size. Every time I try to rip something, I get either the same or lower video quality, yet the size is consistently higher. 30 minute tv shows ( approximately 21 minutes without commercials) are usually 175-185mb 1 hour tv shows (approximately 43 minutes without commericials) are usually 350mb any way to replicate this with Handbrake? Or do I need another ripping solution

Most of my educational DVD are in ISO format. As Handbrake sees it, each lecture on the disk is one title, and it converts one title to a destinationfile at a time.
How do I convert the entire disk (iso file) to one file in Handbrake?chris650

handbrake rips them into great mkv files and that's cool i need that sometimes but as of now i just want the exact same files.. that way i can choose subtitles and chapter and have a menu. What would the settings be in order for me to get the exact thing without the protection? If this is not possible, what program would you suggest? I've read that mactheripper makes bad decryptions, i don't know if it's true but i don't want to spend hours and a few dvds to finding out..
