OS X V10.7 Lion :: Some Sent Items Missing In Mac Mail?
May 23, 2012
I have an issue where some of my sent items do not get saved to the Sent Items folder. Â
The email account in question is a work Exchange Server 2003 one and I have it set up as an IMAP account. I have the correct sent items folder configured so that all my devices (mac at home, iPad and iPhone) all sync perfectly with it. The problem appears to occur, sometimes but not always, in the following circumstances:Â When I am connected to the work network via ethernet. When the email size is quite large.Â
Bizarrely when I unplug the ethernet and connect to the office network wirelessly there is no issue. There is another mac in the office running on Snow Leopard (I'm Lion) at it has exactly the same issue.Â
Needless to say this isn't an ideal situation particularly when dealing with work emails.

Prior to Lion, whenever I open a window at bottom it would show # of items and space available in that window. Now all that info is missing in Lion. How can I get it back? Looking at options under Finder, I don't spot a way to restore like "15 items, 7GB available" as I used to see.

I am using OSX Mail and a me.com address, via O2 broadband in the UK. About once a day, Mail, apparenty randomly, reloads dozens of recently read and deleted messages. So, just now for example, I appear to have 68 new messages, and it's all stuff I've dealt with already, some of it is in the InBox and some is filed in other Mailboxes - doesn't seem to make any difference. So now I'm getting duplicates and probably throwing out items I meant to keep.Â
This is just happening on my desktop iMac and is not replicated on my iPhone or Macbook Air. It feels as if the sync between the iMac and iCloud is somehow corrupting, if that's possible.Â
This has been going on for a few weeks and so isn't getting better on its own (as I have read in other postings). It also doesn't seem to be linked to any other event. The iMac is on all the time, either in use or asleep, and maybe gets restarted once a week.Â
I am wary of deleting things from the Library in case I either lose ALL my mail or it decides to replicate every message in the archive.Â

I fail to receive pdf attachments intermittently using Mail 5.2 running OS X 10.7.3 (Lion). When the attachments do not arrive, I see no paperclip in the attachments column. On a recent occasion, a colleague sent me three consecutive emails, each with 1-2 pdf files attached. The middle one (containing one pdf), shows no attachment in Mail. However, I know the attachment is there, because if I open it on my iPhone, I see the attachment. What's more, if I forward the email to myself from the iPhone, I can now see the attachment again. This has happened several times in the past as well.

I am using Mail, Address Book and iCal synced with my Google account.Â
When I send an email to a contact via Apple Mail on Mac OS X and the contact does not have a lastname include, Apple Mail replaces the blank lastname with the contact's first name.Â
For example, if I send an email to "Dad", the contact later appears on all my synced devices as "Dad Dad".Â
This is only the case when I use Apple Mail on the desktop, not on iOS.Â

My iTunes library resides on an external hard drive, and I wanted to reformat it from FAT32 to Mac OS Extended. I moved the entire contents to another HD, reformatted, then moved everything back. I started iTunes and all items had an exclamation point next to them (original file could not be found). I checked iTunes>Preferences>Advanced and was surprised to see that iTunes Media Folder Location was still set to the original location on the MacBook's HD, since I've been using the external for a few months now. In any case, I changed the folder location to the iTunes folder on the external and that mostly fixed the problem with the exclamation points. There were still certain songs that couldn't be found. I chose one, clicked Locate and found it on the external. iTunes then very helpfully found 127 other items based on that location. However, there are still 149 items that can't be found, and they don't seem to be on any of my HDs. Some of them were purchased from iTunes, some were ripped from CD and some were free tracks found on various artist/label sites. Where could they have disappeared to?

Some of my mail is not showing up in my inbox on my Mac but came through on my phone. Am using imap so it should not have deleted from the server...and I have never have had this problem before.Â
It seems to be working again now, but there are 5 or so emails that just will not come through to my Mac inbox even though I can see them in the inbox on my phone...important work emails....concerned this may happen again and something will slip through the net.Â

After a problem with my "old" MacBook Pro, I have just bought a new one with OSX 10.7.3 Lion and Mail 5.2. I was able to move almost everything over with the Migration Assistant and recovered almost all the remaining from my cloud backup at Carbonite. So far so good.Â
However, in mail, some (not all) sub-folders in the file cabinet do not appear. I redid the restore from Carbonite but they still do not appear.Tried doing a rebuild of the File Cabinet and the folders within it but aparently that does nothing.Â
My assumption is that the are there in the folders of mboxes but, since the Library is now hidden from view, I can not look to verify if the mailboxes are there. What do I do to get them visible?Â

I have emails that show up on my iPad, iPhone and are visible when I log into iCloud but are not being shown on my Mac (Lion 10.7.4). I have checked my Junk mail and Trash and the messages are not there. I do not use Mail rules. I have restarted the Mail app and I've rebooted the Mac without any change. How to "re-sync" Mac Mail to iCloud or fix this issue?

Since I upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard, Mail has had glitches. I fixed one; the other remains: I can't see Word attachments in emails. The only hint is the message "Missing Plug-in". If I show the entire header, Mail provides buttons to Quickview the document or save it. The previous problem was that Mail wouldn't start up (kept quitting while doing the initial database migration) because I'd left in MailActOn as a plugin. So I removed plugins and the contents of ~/Library/Mail/Bundles. Now Mail works except for this.

Please take a quick look at the attached screenshots.
One screenshot shows the contextual menu (Ctrl-click or Right-clik) of the selected png image file on my desktop.
The other screenshot shows the "services" menu (Finder—>Services) for the same file.
I believe that normally the two screenshots should show the exact same set of services available for that file. However, as you can see, the contextual menu is missing one service, namely the mail.app service that attaches the selected file to a new mail message.
How come? This is driving me crazy because the missing service is one I use regularly, and I hate having to dig into the menu structure to find it every time. Right-clicking is just so much faster.

I've got a bunch of client folders and subfolders (labels on gmail). I'm trying to switch to mac in the office and set up an imap account. In the last hour searching the archives here, the subfolders in the account have appeared, disappeared, back and forth. Right now they're gone. They have never had any of the messages in them on the mac. There is no little triangle to turn.
Here's what I have done so far:
- set the folders to show in IMAP
- verified the folders/labels and their contents are on the server, my pc, my iphone
- completely deleted and recreated the account in Mail and System Preferences 3 times
- they also don't show in the [Gmail] folder down below
- let it completely sync overnight last night (problem existed yesterday too)

Although the number of unread messages is properly shown under Inbox on the Mailboxes list next to two of my three Mail accounts, the other one shows none when there some. The quantity is also missing from the total number of messages next to Inbox when I collapse the list. This was working fine for many years.Â

I'm connected to my Exchange Server with MAC Mail now and all seems fine. However, one feature Outlook has that I don't see in MAC Mail (Mail 4.0 on Snow Leopard) is to "store Sent Items" in the folder from where you are replying. This is a great feature as it keeps an entire thread together in a folder (I have server rules that automatically move emails into specific folders as they are received in Exchange 2007). Does anyone know if there is a way to keep a Sent Item in the folder with the original email you are replying to without manually moving it each time from the Sent Items folder?

but I end up with sent items in my label/folders at least when I reply. So, for example, if I label an email "important" it ends up in an "important" folder. But if I reply, then the sent item also shows up in that folder within Mail. I know that this results from Gmail's use of labels rather than folders. It's not a problem in the Gmail/webmail interface because of the threaded display. But what I'd like to do is set a filter within gmail that basically strips any sent mail of all other labels so that when working within Mail I don't get the sent items showing up in the inbox or labels/folders.

I cannot delete email the "normal" way. When I set up my POP account, it created a second trash folder with the same name as my mail account. There are thus two folders in my Trash can - "On My Mac" and the one named after my email account. When I try to delete any mail it says that I cannot move anything to the Trash folder for my Mail account. I have to DRAG all email I wish to delete to the "On My Mac" Trash folder? I just want to be able to click delete and have email go away! Why is this not working?

How to solve this?
