I am running Lion Version 10.7.3 and use Firefox most of the time. When I want to download video content I used to go to the Window tab, hit activity and find the file. I would then copy it and go back to the window tab a click on download. I updated Safari to 5.1.3 and no longer have the download option visible.

Is there a way to suppress the window so that it doesn't pop up when you download a file.
Up 'till now I've been using Saft to add some functionality for Safari. I used it for two reasons: to open new pages in tabs rather than windows, and to autoclose the downloads window after the downloads have finished. Now, the first reason no longer exists as Safari 5 has this functionality built in. Unfortunately, retaining Saft dramatically messes up the tab functionality, so I don't use it anymore. I still hate it that Safari keeps the download will open indefinitely, though. I know SafariStand provides the option to have the download window close, but SafariStand is much much more than I need.
Now, I know Safari 5 has a new extension functionality, but I'm no programmer myself. My question is whether anybody knows about a small extension that adds the possibility to have the download window close automatically after the downloads close, and not much more?
Last night, I was trying to download Xcode 3.2.5 and it wouldn't show up in my downloads window.
This is what it looks like. as you can see, it says the number of DLs at the bottom of the window.
The file DOES download, but for some reason, it just wont show up in my download window.
How do you make the Safari downloads window close automatically after all downloads are finished?

This is a bit of a strange problem, and I'm not entirely certain what caused the behavior I liked in the first place. I thought it was a Snow Leopard problem, but friends of mine have said they've never had the behavior I seem to have lost. I use Adium every day, and I like to have my window in the bottom corner of my screen, below the top of the dock, like so: In Leopard, this window always stayed in its position, even if I closed it.
However, after upgrading to Snow Leopard, the bottom of the window aligns itself to the top of the dock. This is an irritating behavior and I'd like the old one back, however, I've done some pretty extensive searching to no avail. In lieu of getting this exact behavior back, could anyone recommend a program that might force the window to remember its old position or lock positions or something?
I accidently moved the "Safari Window", and now I can see only part of it.
I know I can drag & move the windows. But I'm wondering that If it's possible to move the Safari window to it's "ORIGINAL" place.

Ever since upgrading to Lion, when I log into LogMeIn each computer I log into opens a new window. I have set the Safari prefs to open new windows as tabs, and it works for everything except LogMeIn. They claim it's a Lion issue. It also does this on Firefox.

I have had chronic "buggy" issues with my mac. Here are some examples:
- When I open a new window (i.e. double click on a Word or pdf document from the finder) it will open behind other windows.
- When I click on a window that I want to work on, it won't come to the front, I have to click on other windows in front of it then click on the window I want to finally get it to the front.
- In Finder if, for example, I click on a file to re-name it, the renaming box appears elsewhere on the screen - not in the spot that I clicked. Also, if I am moving a file from one folder to another, the folder I want to move it to often won't highlight when I am hovering on top of it, but when I am elsewhere on the screen (it's as if what is showing on the screen is not aligned with where the mac thinks things are located on the screen).
So sometimes when I change Icons they work and other items they don't it just shows up with this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to burn some audio mix CDs from my iTunes collection, and as my MacBook Pro's Superdrive has got fluff in it or something similar, I am sharing my library with my girlfriend's iMac and attempting to burn from there. We both run the current iTunes, but I have the burn options on my MBP's menu but cannot see any burn options on the iMac's menu or in the playlist window. It's not just my library I can't burn on her iMac, I couldn't burn any of her library either. It's not that burn options are greyed out, they aren't there at all. Very odd considering we are both running current iTunes.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI seem to have the following problem. not sure exactly how it started as my wife was using the mac at the time (she says she just dragged the safari to different desktop via mission control) but now the situation is as follows:
When I hit safari icon it switches on (I can see the little light dot underneath the icon and after right click I can see names of windows that are opened) however I can only see the Safari menu at the top but no window. If I scroll to the right or left to different desktops it's not there, the same goes if I double tap to see the Mission Control mode it's not there...
I so far figured out that once the Safari menu is visible on top of the screen I can go to View>Enter Full Screen and then Safari will come back into the full screen mode but once I unclick the full screen button in right top corner the whole window just swoops into the right top corner and it's nowhere to be found again.

Since I upgraded to Lion 10.7.3, the method I was using to download videos, from YouTube and other internet sites, no longer works. This method (with Snow Leopard) involved going to the Window menu, clicking on Activity, and finding the video file in a list, and double clicking it. Usually the video would still be downloading and would be a certain number of MB in a long list of files of various KB sizes.Now, there is no downloadable file listed (in Activity) for the video I'm watching. Is there a way to download the video without purchasing additional software?

I am using os 10.7.3 and a couple of weeks ago I found I can no longer download pdf files. Instead nothing happens or it try so open in a document viewer, for example: [URL].What do I do? I have not made any changes except update os 10.7 and adobe reader. Other computers using snowlepoard down load just fine!

Whenever I try to get AVG Anti-Virus Free, it only directs me to a link to upgrade from 7.1 to 7.5. Since I had 7.1 removed from my machine, this upgrade obviously will not work. But I can never find a link to the actual 7.5 install itself. Does this even exist? How does one find it? Or better yet, is there a better free anti-virus option available?

When I click to download something it opens the window and shows progress. The second the download is complete the window clears out so I can't click on the what was just downloaded.
I'm forced to go to the finder window, downloads, search by date then find the download.
Where is the option to change this so I can just click on the list in the progress window?
I put off doing the software update on Safari... I just HAD a feeling something would go wrong and I didn't have time to mess with it if it did.
So today I ran and update. And it messed up.
Now Safari will "open"... it looks like it is open and I have access to all the menus. But a Safari window will not open.
I am surprised that I haven't seen others with this problem. I have tried deleting the cache and deleting the preferences file. Neither seem to have made ANY difference.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. And I am feeling like I'm missing a body part. I need my Safari back!
When I click on a file to download it from the internet, the download window opens. I see the progress of the download as well as the little 'x' icon to cancel and the 'magnifying glass' to find where the download is going.So far so good.Immediately when the file completes the contents of the window clear out. At which point I have to manually find the download through the Finder.
I've changed the option to delete the contents of the window "manually".
I selected shrek's fairytale free app from appstore for downloading. During downloading, i moved/drag the shrek icon inside a game group just to organize my apps. However, a notification poped up saying that the terms and condition for itune has changed. So i broswed it and selected agree. But i noticed that shrek's icon is not in the grouped that previously moved nor on the original location. I go to appstore but it keeps on popping "Download now" "Shrek's fairytale kingdom will now begin to download." . The appsstore is encountering an infinte loop in my phone. By the way, im using an iphone 4s IOS 5.1.1.

I did have a look this morning & there was a suggestion about something I think was called speeddownloader which I looked for but couldn't see it. I am new to MAC's. She can use the Activity window in Safari to download a YouTube video, but after the download is finished (20MB or 6MB or ...), the downloaded file is called "videoplayback", without the .flv suffix. Even if she appends the .flv suffix, she can't play them back in VLC or SWF + FLV Player.
It's no biggie, as she can use KeepVid, but I was just curious, why it is that way. Does anyone know?
What is the problem between Safari 5.1.7 and hotmail? I can't quit safari while the hotmail window is open. I can close Safari from all other websites.

When I use Firefox, I automatically get a "do you want to save" message when I close down so when I restart FF, I'm back with my same tabs, etc. Never happens with Safari. I even input ID's at websites which aren't held the next time around. Can I get Safari to act like FF when it comes to saving tabs, site Id's, and such.
