Safari crashes on upload/download (lion)
Info:MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Macbook Pro 5,3 mid 2010
Safari and Firefox crash when I try to upload something through the browser. Before when I would upload a file, a finder window would pop up, but it immediately crashes before this window appears. I tried logging in as a different user in the OS and that didn't work. But when I rebooted in safe mode. I was able to get the finder pop up window to upload the file.
Here is the crash report:

I have a macbook pro and I have the OS X lion installed with all the latest updates to Safari etc. Lately my browsers have been acting up. Â
While I can access a lot of websites on my Safari there are other sites which do not load and I get the spinning beach ball before Safari crashes. My Safari also seems to take longer to load. Â
I have the latest Firefox 12 installed. When that starts up on the home page it crashes straight away after the obligatory spinning beach ball. I tried to trouble shoot Firefox but it wouldn't even open in safe mode before it crashed. Â
I also have Opera which doesn't even start up. So I uninstalled and upgraded to Opera Next. It doesn't even start up! Â
I have checked for plug in issues. I have up to date adobe flash player and java - unless there is some issue there. I also checked my DNS and it seemed clean of trojans. But I could or may have overlooked something. Â
I did use 'onyx' to clean my files but the trouble began before I used it. So now I am at a loss to understand why I am having problems with my browsers. Â
I'm not very technical but I have done my best to follow various threads around here to dismiss obvious causes. Â

I know there are a ton of products out there which help to 'increase' your download speed. I am looking for an application that can control the download/upload speed.. slow it down or increase it.
Also, is it possible to slow down the download rate.. but keep the upload rate the same? Tried looking for products which can achieve this but can't seem to find any.
Out of no where, I can no longer download or upload anything utilizing Transmission or BitTorrent clients. Also, I decided to try the mail.app and it will not connect to either of my email servers (which are fine, setup just fine on other computers). Also, I tried thunderbird thinking it was a mail.app problem, but won't work there either. I thought perhaps I needed to check my airport extreme, but the utility app can not find it? Something surely is odd. I do have little snitch installed, but looks to be OK, but perhaps I'm missing a setting. Leopard 10.5.8.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a MacPro and a newer iMac in my office. When I do speedtest.net from my MacPro, I get 3-4Mbs download usually, sometimes <1Mb download and sometimes 10-20 Mbs download. My wifes iMac consistently gets 15-25Mbs download and faster uploads. It doesn't matter what browser I use to test the computers speeds, she has a consistently blazing fast and mine sucks.
Of course, she doesn't have a lot of applications on hers, because the bulk of the work is done on my MacPro. Is there some pref files that I can delete or other resolutions?
It doesn't matter which browser I'm using, whenever I try to save an image or upload from my macbook, I get the spinning beach ball and I have to force quit whatever browser I'm using.Â

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter searching around on these forums, google and versiontracker, I still cannot find what I'm looking for. I found many network monitoring tools, but none of them did what I wanted it to do. I would like to find a program that simply shows how many MB/GB of upload/download I have used. The programs I was finding showed me the current amount of data being transferred and other information that is useless to me.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI find it slow to edit data in iTunes (e.g., changing to last name first, filling in data when missing from old CDs). This would be very easy to type, copy/paste, copy down, etc. in Excel. Is there a fast way to edit data in iTunes? (faster than clicking on a song, waiting for it to know you're changing data, typing the data and not being able to copy/paste)
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to Lion 10.7.3, the method I was using to download videos, from YouTube and other internet sites, no longer works. This method (with Snow Leopard) involved going to the Window menu, clicking on Activity, and finding the video file in a list, and double clicking it. Usually the video would still be downloading and would be a certain number of MB in a long list of files of various KB sizes. Now, there is no downloadable file listed (in Activity) for the video I'm watching. Is there a way to download the video without purchasing additional software?

Dose anyone know of an app that i can use on my iMac to set a maximum upload and download speed for my connection.

I am running Lion Version 10.7.3 and use Firefox most of the time. When I want to download video content I used to go to the Window tab, hit activity and find the file. I would then copy it and go back to the window tab a click on download. I updated Safari to 5.1.3 and no longer have the download option visible.

I have a Mid-2011, 21.5" iMac running Yosemite v10.10.1. I upgraded from 4 to 8 GB of RAM about a year ago, but I don't think that's an issue with this problem.Â
I can no longer download movie or tv show purchases from the iTunes Store to iTunes v12.0.1 on my iMac. The download starts and lists in the Downloads pane in iTunes. However, once the download has completed and the Download progress bar message changes to "Processing..." iTunes crashes. When I start iTunes back up again, the downloaded movie is not present in my iTunes Movie library. However, if I navigate to the iTunesMovies folder, I can see a folder for the movie and a file instance of the movie (in m4v format) for every attempted download. Something seems to be going wrong with iTunes ability to add the link to the movie file into my iTunes library.Â
I tried adding the movie folder and file manually to iTunes using the iTunes->File->Add to Library... menu option, but iTunes instantly crashes the moment I click the "Open" button in the Add to Library... dialog window.Â
I have several movie purchases and gifts that I'd like to add to my local iTunes library, but this error is blocking me from doing that.
Some weird things about my iTunes library on my iMac:
My iMac does not have a large enough built-in harddrive (only 500 GB) to store my iTunes library. In a prior version of iTunes, I located the library on an external 3 TB USB-3.0 harddrive. I'm wondering if there's a bug in iTunes 12.0.1 that occurs when adding content to the iTunes library when that content is located on an external harddrive, i.e. in a folder other than User{my username}MusiciTunes Media. Perhaps I need to change the iTunes folder structure on the external harddrive to mirror the new folder structure in my User{my username}Music folder. I'm a little leery about doing this as I do not want to break all the links in my iTunes library to existing songs, movies, etc.Â

Before I get yelled at, I'll get in first, yup, I'm a newbie! Also before i start, I'm a windoz person and is possibly part of the reason I can't sort this out on a mac.I am helping a friend build a wikispace and whilst we can write text to it, we cannot upload any pictures to it any more. it did work a week ago though...it comes up with <URL> picname.jpg error during upload - please try again (io error) in both safari and firefoxuploading pictures to facebook doesn't work anymore- maybe this is a clue too?We are using mac osx 10.5.8.If I use my PC and log in to the wikispace, we can upload pix no problems at all.

I have a Samsung external drive from which I can play and view these small discs that are not compatable with iMac. I need to upload from these discs to a New Project or a New Event in iMovie. I cannot figure a way to upload for editing and produce a finished movie. My iMac forced me to get a Canon HF-R100 camcorder with an SD card for the iMac SD slot.

Is it bad for Macs to leave them on a long time when you're not using it?
My nephew once told me he puts his PC off when he goes to school for example, because it would be better for his pc.
Does this count for...
- My PowerBook, running on cable (not battery, whatever)?
- My (to buy) 24'' iMac?
Reason is I sometimes want to leave my stuff on to upload or download stuff...
Safari crashes randomly on 10.7. Sometimes right away, sometimes after a bit. Tried deleting app and supporting files. No luck. Using macbook pro 17", 10.7, latest version of Safari.
