It all stopped working immediately after the update. The PC is set to map a drive to the share it authenticates as <mac name>/<user name>; yet the password, which worked perfectly pre update, is now rejected.

My Mid 2011 iMac 27" i7 will no longer start after the latest EFI update. I decided to perform some system updated on my iMac and after installing 10.7.3, I rechecked and it found the EFI update and one other update. They were both pretty small (the largest was 3.6MB), so I decided to proceed prior to getting back to business with my system. After downloading the updates (took about 5 seconds), the machine proceeded to restart. There was a loud beep prior to the system restart chime after which it went to the grey-white apple startup screen with the spinning wheel. And it stayed there. After 35 minutes with no discernable progress, I decided something must be wrong. This system normally takes about 30 seconds to boot from a cold state (it's running on an OWC SSD) or maybe a minute after updates. So I held the power button to reboot. But it keeps going to the same state. I tried to reboot to a different internal drive holding the option key, but the same thing happens.

1. How do I recover from this?
2. Is anyone else running into this problem?
3. How long do the EFI updates normally take?
4. Shouldn't there be some sort of "progress bar" to indicate something is going on during this process? Or, if not, then perhaps a "WARNING!! This process will take up to two hours, during which you will receive no discernable feedback. Do not interrupt the process until more than 24 hours have passed with the spinning ball."
P.S. I think this is my last iMac EFI update. After my last iMac received an EFI update (2009 model 24" iMac), it became ultra-flakey and started corrupting HD's. It never worked the same after that. This machine was working PERFECTLY before the update.

I recently updated my Server running 10.7.0 to version 10.7.3 and single-sign-on no longer works for my users. The 10.7.3 Lion Server System is bound to our Active Directory Server running on Win2003 R2 Server. I tried un-binding and rebinding the system but.. no luck. When a user now tries to login to our shares via AFP with SSO credentials they recieve the message
I can run the id command from terminal on the OS X server and it is seeing AD users. Unfortunately, no one can log into the server shares via AFP with an AD user.

After installing the new update I no longer have sound either through the the speakers or the headphone jack. I know it works because I was using it right before the update. The speaker also sounds after the post bios.

I have a 17" unibody MBP (most current version) with 10.6.4, and I downloaded the recent firmware updates for the MBP's. Before I did this, the mini port to HDMI video/audio output was working perfectly, I could watch anything right off my MBP. After installing the updates, when I plug in the cable, my MBP flickers, goes blue, and then comes back, but the TV does not detect the signal from the laptop. In the Display and Sound menus in System Preferences, there's no option to set up a second display like there was before.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSoftware Update ran yesterday and I installed the AirPort Utility update (version 5.5.2), and now my MBP no longer connects to my home network when the SSID broadcast is disabled. When I enable the broadcast the network shows up in the list of available networks and I can connect to it, then I can disable it again and the MBP stays connected. But if it's disabled to begin with it won't connect.
I never had this problem before the update, and no other devices on the network are having any issues. Has anyone else had this problem yet, or know of a fix?
Late 2008 unibody Macbook Pro running 10.6.5, all software is up-to-date except for the latest update to iTunes.
Title is pretty self-explanatory. I have a year old 15" MBP (unibody, but not the absolute newest) and after the trackpad software update the click button on the bottom third of the trackpad no longer does anything. I tried to disable tapping and to my horror I could not tap or click or do anything until I plugged in a USB mouse and turned tapping back on - so the issue was worse than I thought.
I don't have any third party gesture software or anything crazy like that. Sorry if this has already been brought up - didn't see it in my first couple searches.

Working on an iMac 24in Intel that was working fine until my upgrade to Leopard. I originally had issues printing to my Phaser 7700 with the initial upgrade from Tiger to Leopard - but I was able to find an suitable workaround.
Now with the 10.5.7 update I cannot print AT ALL and tried everything from resetting the print queue to reinstalling the drivers. I have tried to print to some of the other printers in the office and I keep coming up with the same error: GenericClass: waiting for device Connecting.
I am looking into some computer issues a friend was having with her G5 iMac. While I was snooping around some simple things that could be the issue she was having I came across an interesting issue. When in System Preferences clicking the "Click the lock to make changes." does absolutely nothing. It is kind of silly as I am unable to do anything in System Preferences, which severely limits what I can do with the computer. I searched Google about 25 different ways and came up with nothing on how to correct this problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running a macbook only a couple of months old so i go the cheap as chips dvd for SL Installed it and things seem fine except the fun that office 2008 wont load at all (gotta love MS) Now though i can not authenticate myself to change accounts in preferences even though i am the only user and i am the admin user. i click on the lock and it simply saying "authenticating" then goes back to "click lock to change settings" this is annoying as i cant do much in terms of users etc and i think this is lnked to the fact that i can't install not programs. In fact i couldn't even install the additional programs from the install DVD!!! i got to the final button to actually instal after selecting the location etc and it does nothing after clicking install. No password prompt or nothing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter updating, seems that my iSight camera no longer functions. In iChat, the user on the other end had no video from me, nor did I have a preview. In Photo Booth I get nothing but a black screen. The green LED indicator still functions as if the camera was on, but no image at all. I tried zapping the PRAM and resetting the SMU or PMU as well, but with no luck. It acts as if it's functioning properly with the light activating and system profiler recognizes the iSight cam in USB devices.

Adobe updater automatically updated Acrobat and since that happened, my InDesign and Illustrator is not working. When I launch Illustrator it just hangs, and when Iaunch InDesign it asks me to "Personalize my copy" but will not allow me to put my serial number in.
I found cpsid_53468 on the adobe website and downloaded a disk image, followed the directions and installed it in my root library folder, as they described. I have tried this many times, and my software is still not working.
I called the support line, and they tell me that this is not supported anymore.
If this is the case, why is Adobe automatically updating Acrobat 8?
I called them and they told me they are not supporting CS2 any longer.
So I am stuck with this mess.
After recent update I can no longer open my iphoto. (Pop-up window states that it is trying to update, that older versions iphoto will no longer be readable with older versions)After 2 hours of waiting for it to upgrade still no response. What do I do to be able to view iphoto library?

I have a Mac mini (~2008) running Snow Leopard.I updated my software today (haven't done this in probably several months) and immediately afterword, my Apple aluminum wired keyboard no longer responds. (The mouse when attached through the keyboard also no longer responds.)However, the keyboard still functions just fine on a separate MacBook Pro that I have, it just won't work on the Mac Mini. (I tried different USB ports with no difference.)
I wasn't smart enough to write down what upgrades actually occurred prior to my last update, but there were only 4 items (I think one was Safari, one was iTunes).If there are no better ideas, I guess I will have to try a system restore from Time Machine which predates my latest bad "update". I'd rather not have to go there if I don't have to.
I recently changed the primary email associated with my Apple ID and then reset all my devices to reflect this change by signing out and reauthenticating for iCloud and iTunes/App store. The problem is that no matter what I do, nothing seems to get my messages syncing from my mobile devices to my MBP. I've chekd to ensure the accounts are showing up and active on my iPhone and on my MBP based on the instructions and suggestions found. The most frustrating part is that the preferences in the Messages.app are greyed out along with the accounts so I cannot access them to configure.
My last ditch effort was deleting the plist files associated with Messages.app, but this also did not work.

To lock this slack-tastic wonder out of my network I wanted to change the password on my local Panther server.
Being the Unix geek that I am, I SSH'd to the server, logged in as administrator and called 'passwd' to change my password. Now Workgroup Manager doesn't work.
It was suggested that I attempt to edit the NetInfo database directly. I tried via the 'Netinfo Manager', but that didn't do anything helpful. Now I can't authenticate on the 'Netinfo Manager' on the server and I still can't become fully authenticated with the 'Workgroup Manager' on my own account. I am able to authenticate on the server directly, with the GUI and console. I'm able to install software, use 'sudo', etc.
I tired to use the 'pwpolicy' command since 'administrator' authenticates with the PasswordService, but I got an odd error: Code: pwpolicy -a administrator -u administrator -setpassword apple

I can't find a reference to that error code anywhere. I have verified that I can authenticate correctly with 'pwpolicy'.
I tried to modify the password with the install discs, but I didn't see any simple tools for changing the password when browsing the CDs. I assume I have to boot off them in order to change the password, but when I restarted the server with the OSX install disc inserted it did not boot off the disc. Is there an easy way to allow for booting off the disc on a Mac platform? I'm only familiar with the PC configuration methods.
Im having problem problems all over Lion Server. I can't manage Profile Manager on client machines..nothing authenticates. So I thought I would rebuild the Open Directory replica functions....however in recreating an Open Directory I get an error.
"Cannot replicate a directory with augment user records.Your server cannot become a replica of 'server.com' because its directory contains augment user records. Please refer to the Open Directory Administration Guide for more information about this issue."
How do I get rid of the augment users records?By the way..I set this server up per Lynda Lion Server essential training. Part of the server functions with File Sharing and users accessing folders..but Profile Manager does not authenticate on client machines.
I have a later 2012 iMac 27". The computer was running slow for the past week or so. I decided to update to Yosemite today. The installation stated it had a critical error and the downloaded file was corrupted. It asked to re-download the file, and then the iMac froze. It went to a gray screen without a restart. I forced the iMac to restart. After the restart, a progress bar with the Apple symbol would come up and then the iMac would shut down. I have attempted to restart using Internet Recovery; however, the OSX will not show a drive to install to. I did another Internet Recovery and had Disk Utility come up, but it only sees a partition with approximately 2 gigs of the 3 terabytes I actually have. It seems as if iMac is not properly mounting the drive. I have two questions.
1) Is there some way to have the bios remount the drive and
2) if 1 is not possible, is it possible to recover the data off the drive?

I am able to access my Windows 7 machine's shares on my Mac (Lion 10.7.3) through SMB with no problems at all. However, I am unable to access my Mac's shares on my Windows machine.
I have been fighting with this issue for hours and haven't found a solution yet. I've done a bunch of Googling and have found plenty of posts related to my issue, but no solutions. Everyone seems to be at least receiving a login prompt when they try to connect to a Mac OS X Lion Samba share from a Windows 7 machine, but I am not. All I get is "Windows cannot connect to \MAC" after ~15-20 seconds of waiting.
Here's what I've tried:Reconfigured all of my settings on both the Windows and Mac systems, then restarted.
