OS X V10.7 Lion :: MacBook Pro Performing Slow Since Upgrading?

May 6, 2012

My MacBook Pro has been running quite slow ever since upgrading from Snow Leopard to OS X Lion 10.7.3. Applications were already very slow to quit in Snow Leopard but are incredibly slow in Lion. I often have to force quit.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Slow Shutdown After Upgrading

Feb 9, 2012

I upgraded my wife's Late-2007 MacBook White to Lion and now sleeping and shutdown take a very long time. On Snow Leopard, sleep and shutdown was instantaneous! Close the lid and BAM! done. Selecting shutdown on the menu and BAM! turned off.

Now, after upgrading to Lion, they take a really long time. I deleted the shutdown log, turned off the computer and then turned it back on and checked on it. All processes go in less than a second, but com.apple.securityd doesn't exit at all and has to be killed as I see this message on the log:

19988665     1 com.apple.launchd                           28 com.apple.securityd                      Exit timeout elapsed (20 seconds). Killing

One of the last messages on the log is this one:

19992024     1 com.apple.launchd                            1 com.apple.launchd                        System: Userspace shutdown took approximately 20 seconds.

So I figure if it were not for com.apple.securityd, shutdown would be instantaneous, just as Snow Leopard was.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Finder So Slow After Upgrading

Jun 20, 2012

I came from OS Snow Leopard on a fairly basic Macbook Pro 13 inch model, and upgraded to Lion.  I use Finder a lot, and something I noticed immediately was how SLOW finder is now in OS Lion. Does anyone else seem to be having this problem?  When I use the space-bar to preview something it can take up to 10 seconds for me to load a preview, where it used to be instantaenous in Snow Leopard.  I also have problems moving around in finder, like going from Downloads to Desktop, there's a 5 second delay minimum.

MacBook :: System Slow Response After Upgrading To Leopard

MacBook Pro :: Safari Running Slow Since Upgrading To Mavericks?

Sep 1, 2014

My Safari browser has been running slow since upgrading to Mavericks last fall.  Some webpages (Facebook, USAA) won't even fully load, while others load fine.  I've read a lot of the other posts about slow Safari and I've tried the other tricks that people have posted (Changing DNS to the Google one, using "Reset" on Safari, turning off extensions and plug-ins)  I finally downloaded Chrome and it's just as fast as my safari "used" to be.  So it can't be the internet connection because both my phone/iPad browsers are super fast and my MacBook Pro's Chrome is super fast.  I just want to go back to using Safari!

MacBook Pro :: New Machine Not Performing Up To Par

Nov 9, 2010

I just recently purchased a new macbook pro, see sig. At first it ran awesome. Now all of a sudden its very laggy while scrolling on web pages, even without heavy flash content. My magic mouse is also slightly unresponsive. It tracks very slowly, and is choppy while following my movements. I know it is not just the mouse because It worked fine on my other computer. At this point, I have tried restarts, battery pulls, etc. And nothing seems to be working. At this point I am considering a complete OS re install. It seems really bad when Its hooked up to my external monitor.

IMac :: Upgrading Processor Due To Slow Performance?

Aug 27, 2010

I've just installed an SSD in my new iMac 27", see here. I'm fast learning though (diglloydTools and other commentators) that once the application has loaded the SSD isn't involved very much from there on, so there are the same old performance problems. I'm finding in Firefox/Firebug where there is a large DOM (nothing exceptional) performance is still woeful.

So, baring in mind the Core i7 processor is under $200 and it would appear to have been possible to upgrade the iMac's processors in the past, does anybody have any advice for me? What parts will I need, have you done it and what was your experience, any common problems with doing this, are the parts themselves upgradeable (the quoted link only suggests they are) etc.

MacBook Pro :: Notebook For Performing Business / Home Tasks

Aug 16, 2010

I'm in the process of researching my next notebook purchase. If people could attempt to maintain an unbiased viewpoint that would be very useful. I'm a qualified accountant currently offering personal tax and finance advice. The form factor I've decided on is 15". I've considered the 13" but I can't justify giving up the screen real-estate (and the fact I'd go for the hi-res screen) for the added mobility. My everyday tasks are split between work and home use. As a general oversight these include multimedia, photo editing and extensive MS Word/Excel. Assuming I go Mac OS I will also require decent Virtualization performance on the occasion I need to run Windows software I use for my work. The packages cannot be found in Mac OS form.

The following factors are also important:
-Build Quality
-Battery Life
-Value for Money Hardware & Specification

From the first two points you can see why I am considering the 15" mid-range i5 MBP. But I am struggling to overcome the third point. For example a similar specfied Vaio E Series is approx. $1000 ($700) a-drift and includes a BDVD player. But bad experiences with windows notebooks have taught me that they are generally built to last 18-24 months at the very best. If I could find a machine with the build quality and battery life of a MBP with a windows OS I'd be more than happy. Don't get me wrong, I love Mac OS, however the financial industry in the UK seems to be significantly dominated by Windows software and I refuse to run two machines.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Upgrading USB 2.0 To USB 3.0 (MacBook Pro Mid 2010)?

Jun 4, 2012

if it is possible to upgrade the USB 2.0s on the MacBook Pro (2010) to USB 3.0s? I know the new Macbooks are dropping soon with 3.0s on em, and Instead of swapping out computers entirely, I am interested in upgrading my internals as far as I can, just to keep up with the curve and to increase my Macs performance. (2) will the new hardware work with Lion? Im not sure if there would be any type of hardware-recognition issues associated with the upgrade. (3) If not, would it likely work with Mountian Lion?

And Lastly (4), How is it done? Im sure its pretty straitforward after popping off the base plate and getting a look inside the Notebook, but Im actually going to purchace new RAM to increase the speed at which my Mac runs, and new USBs, and possibly even a boosted HDD to throw inside and Instead of taking the back off so many times, I kindof wanna do it all at once.I cant be the only one who wants to boost the USBs.

Mac Pro :: Freezes When Performing Certain Tasks?

May 27, 2012

My Mac pro has been freezing recently which requires me to hard boot and I'm not quite sure whats going on. Let me go a bit more into detail. Now when I say freeze, I don't mean beach balling, I mean literally the entire screen is motionless and I must hard reboot. Its odd really, the computer only freezing when doing certain tasks, such as when I render 3D graphics with Cinema4D, or whenever I play certain games on steam.I have recently installed windows as a partition for bootcamp, but I don't believe that is the issue. I have experienced the freezes while running my machine in both Windows and Mac. Its important to note that when booting my Mac in SAFEMODE, the freezing does not occur while performing the same tasks. So this leads me to believe there is a process going on thats causing the computer to freeze up? What I think I have managed to rule out as problems:

- Not a Hard Drive failing issue, I booted from my backup hard drive and the freezing still occurs.

- Not a Heat issue, I've installed iStat and my top temperature barely raises to 60 degrees celsius when freezing occurs.

- Not an issue with the Windows partition, as I booted from my backup drive that is without the partition and the freezes still occur.

- Not a Ram issue, I took my ram cards out and swapped them around.

One other things... Not sure if this is relevant, but upon one of the freezes, I rebooted and got this on my startup screen, It was bizaar and it froze here as well. This only occured once but I snapped a photo of it.
