My Macbook Air (OS X; version10.7.5) with 2 GB of memory is now getting the frequent appearance of the 'color wheel' preventing me from performing any functions. What does this mean and how do I correct the problem?

Recently, spotlight just stopped calculating math functions and I'm not sure why. When I enter an equation, it doesn't try to solve it, but it still finds files with the numbers included and other hits. It's mostly a minor nuisance, but I have no idea why it even stopped, since everything else seems to work fine.
View 17 Replies View RelatedIve been getting this issue on my macbook quite frequently now; dont think its hardware related and occurs randomly at any time up to 3 times a day where the computer will slowly begin to freeze.
It (usually) begins by my browser not being able to access a website (just a white screen in browser section), at this point im able to alt tab between apps for some time but eventually everything will hard freeze, same with the cursor which will turn into a rainbow wheel and also eventually freeze.
Can only resolve this by power button for 6 secs (good thing it starts up in 5 seconds)

What does it mean when my 13" Macbook Pro pointer turns into a spinning color wheel after a web page loads, but freezes while this is happening? Every now and it does this for just a few seconds. At first I though maybe it lost my home Wifi signal, but it's showing 4 full bars.

I just got my imac 21.5 a week ago, and now already a problem. It was working fine until now.
I have been copying and pasting pictures and avatars from forums onto Microsoft office (office mac 2008). And tonight I got the dreadful color spinning wheel when I tried to copy more. I wouldn't go away after 10 minutes, so I restarted the computer. I reopened office, and it still had the wheel. It keeps saying it has to close. Why is this happening? Is it bad to copy and paste?
This just happened today- I have a imac 21.5- and when I put in a DVD the movie worked but the color wheel would NOT go away. I tried everything from pressing ESC to trying to fast forward/rewind- nothing worked. I had to restart the computer by pressing the button on the back. I tried playing the DVD again and the color wheel came up. The DVD plays fine in other players.

If I clog the activity monitor up too much, the color wheel will come up, and I really hate it. I get very impatient when that happens - not because of it being there, but for some reason, the color wheel itself.
Is there a way to change it so that there is not the color wheel there, maybe something like a black and white color wheel or another gif.

When I open safari colored spinning wheel appears and locks up safari, I have to force quit to get out. It also appears briefly when other programmes are opened but doesn't seem to affect them.

I bought my first uMbp the day Snow Leopard came out. Unfortunately, it was not installed on the uMbp. So upon running the mbp for the first time, I proceeded to install SL.
Now occasionally, maybe a once every other day, whenever I open up a few applications like Word or maybe even a new tab in Firefox, everything would freeze and the spinning color wheel would spin for about 30 or so seconds and everything would resume to normal.
Now I ask, is this normal behavior? I have the 2.26ghz uMBP edition with 2gb of ram.
Should I go ahead and do a clean re-install?
This causes a delay to open, etc. of 10-15 seconds

before switching to Mac, I used an "X-Rite Eye One Display 2" color meter device with software. You can find them most places like Amazon for about $150. The device should still work, but I can't find any software for it for the Mac. After going to the X-Rite web site, I could find no software at all for the Mac as it is only windows based.
Surely someone out there has used a color meter such as this one as they are quite popular especially for graphics artists that use professional graphic monitors. I am hoping someone can tell me how to use my color meter (USB), what software for Mac Leopard I need and how to save the color profile in the Mac OS.
I just recently purchased a new macbook pro, see sig. At first it ran awesome. Now all of a sudden its very laggy while scrolling on web pages, even without heavy flash content. My magic mouse is also slightly unresponsive. It tracks very slowly, and is choppy while following my movements. I know it is not just the mouse because It worked fine on my other computer. At this point, I have tried restarts, battery pulls, etc. And nothing seems to be working. At this point I am considering a complete OS re install. It seems really bad when Its hooked up to my external monitor.

My MacBook Pro has been running quite slow ever since upgrading from Snow Leopard to OS X Lion 10.7.3. Applications were already very slow to quit in Snow Leopard but are incredibly slow in Lion. I often have to force quit.

I'm a qualified accountant currently offering personal tax and finance advice. The form factor I've decided on is 15". I've considered the 13" but I can't justify giving up the screen real-estate (and the fact I'd go for the hi-res screen) for the added mobility. My everyday tasks are split between work and home use. As a general oversight these include multimedia, photo editing and extensive MS Word/Excel. Assuming I go Mac OS I will also require decent Virtualization performance on the occasion I need to run Windows software I use for my work. The packages cannot be found in Mac OS form.
The following factors are also important:
-Build Quality
-Battery Life
-Value for Money Hardware & Specification
From the first two points you can see why I am considering the 15" mid-range i5 MBP. But I am struggling to overcome the third point. For example a similar specfied Vaio E Series is approx. $1000 ($700) a-drift and includes a BDVD player. But bad experiences with windows notebooks have taught me that they are generally built to last 18-24 months at the very best. If I could find a machine with the build quality and battery life of a MBP with a windows OS I'd be more than happy. Don't get me wrong, I love Mac OS, however the financial industry in the UK seems to be significantly dominated by Windows software and I refuse to run two machines.
i really want to customize my macbook. i want to change the color logo to apple classic color. (but not for a while) the main thing i want to do is something like this [URL] the second picture to last. the guy with a suit and a hat, being covered with the apple logo. i want something like that, only not that image. you get the idea though. where can i get something like this? are they stickers as well? or are they laser engraved? i do not want it permanent on my macbook, since i get easily bored with the same look
View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have instructions for the new macbook Air 128Gb ssd, how to do a clean install, if you follow the procedures from the first model, you can omit the printer driver, other languages etc. but the applications are on a second DVD called Application DVD (unlike the 1st Macbook Air where it was Mac OS system disk 1 and 2) and its all or nothing, I didn't check the box and all the apps were installed, I don't need Garage Band, IMOVIE or IDVD etc, has anyone come across this and a solution for it, maybe not insert the applications DVD to save the additional disk space?

My fans will go full speed and the temperature will rise to 70 to 80C, while doing pretty much anything including scrolling in safari. I've put artic silver in and it helped for about three months but now it is returning. If you have any methods of keeping it cooled down I'd like to hear them?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 2 MBP's, a Mac Pro, and a Mac Mini. On all of these I use a Logitech Trackman Wheel with. I updated the first 3 machines to Snow Leopard and the Logitech Trackman Wheel continued to work fine. I then upgraded the last MBP to Snow Leopard. For some reason the scroll wheel no longer works on the Logitech Trackman Wheel. I am able to use the ball to move around the screen, the buttons still work, but the scroll wheel won't work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI will be online (Chrome) when all of the sudden no pages will load. If iTunes is open at this time, it will repeatedly give me a "-50" error. Once I close and reopen iTunes I get Error Code 13014. When Recieveing these errors, none of my files are accessable, and sometimes not visible. I must restart the computer and then it works fine, but 15 minutes later it does the same thing. I beileve it all has to do with my iTunes but I don't know how to fix it.

I was using X-Mail Notifier on my Firefox web browser, but it no longer works. So, I wanted to use Mail for managing my emails accounts. But, I have a question:
How can we configure Mail and preventing it from downloading all our emails which have been received for years? I just want it starts downloading my emails from today, not from 5 years ago...
When I try to shut down the computer, I get an error message that the mail application is preventing the shutdown. I have tried to manually close the mail application, but it won't close.

I am using a MacBook Air 2013 model with OS 10.9.4 (Mavericks). It has a 120 GB HD with about 17 GB of free space. I am unable to download from the Mac App Store as I get an 'insufficient space available" error whenever I try to purchase a larger App (> 2 GB). After looking through the forums I can confirm the following:
- Both the Finder and "About This Mac" report that 16.5 GB of space is available.
- I have toggled Time Machine and restarted my computer with it "On" and "Off".
- The application description does not mention needing more space for installation (specifically I am now trying to download BioShock 2 which needs about 9 GB).
