OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mac 10.7.4 Crashed On Finishing Update
Jun 7, 2012
After finding some things going wrong with my system such as Wineserver and Java I suspect to not be working correctly as I attemped to play Minecraft (Uses Java) and League of Legends for the Mac otherwise known as iLoL (Uses Wine) I decided maybe it was for the best to update the OS as some updates might have "borked" some code up.
I originally tried to update to 10.7.4 with the software update button found in the apple menu, but after updating it said it had failed after restarting to install the software with the error of "The installer encountered an error that caused the installer to fail, contact the software manufacturer for assistance" Leaving me with 10.7.3, I have tried repairing my disk permissions but that did not work neither did reinstalling 10.7.3 as it had the same error or restarting my computer all the same. But I did find this informative log in my console, if only I could understand it as I'm not the most technilogicily advanced person ever but I do enjoy software development, anyhow here is the log that I discovered in my console.
I have the "show detail" box checked but Disk Utility is not showing detail. It goes through verify and repair, says it is finished, but shows no files. I have never had No files need repair. My computer has been slow and erratic and usually running Disk Utility works, but not now.
I have my 17" MBP besides me when it pronated me to restart after a software update. I am working in my other mac pro. Then I see the MBP with the blue screen for a while with no sign of activity. I press the power button, goes black and that is it. It won't want to start up again. The hard drive tries to read or something inside moves just once and that is it. Is not the hard drive broken, there is not reason and is not the sound of a broken drive, it sounds like the optical drive too. But the thing is that there is not activity, no sound of any sort. I disconnected the battery, unplugged the machine, power up, reconnect the battery and power and nothing. Is dead. The power light is on. It seems the software update did something to the computer. It has been on my desk for a week with Skype and messenger mostly.
I begin to question the reliability of this Time Machine stuff. I've been trying to get initial backup for my TM with my new NAS (iomega ix2-200 Cloud Edition) this past week. I can't get over it, it's ridiculous. Around 7 attempts using wifi had all failed. Today I tried using ethernet (I know, I should've tried it earlier), and although it is significantly faster, this is all I got until now: Starting standard backup Attempting to mount network destination URL: afp://******@192.168.1.18/Backups Mounted network destination at mountpoint: /Volumes/Backups-1 using URL: afp://******@192.168.1.18/Backups QUICKCHECK ONLY; FILESYSTEM CLEAN Disk image /Volumes/Backups-1/****** MacBook Pro.sparsebundle mounted at: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups Backing up to: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb 6.53 GB required (including padding), 1.33 TB available Waiting for index to be ready (101) Copied 377.5 MB of 4.9 GB, 743476 of 919412 items Copied 894411 files (3.1 GB) from volume Macintosh HD. Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: Macintosh HD
It seems like it doesn't actually start new backup, and the size of the sparsebundle is now reaching 120GBs. However, the process seemed to be halted in "finishing backup".I'm paging Pondini because I know he's the most resourceful person about TM out there

My old iMac desktop with Tiger OS installed crashed. I couldn't reboot. I tried the Hardware checkout I got with my MacBook and everything passed. I tried to start-up from the Tiger install disk--but couldn't. So, I went to my old 9.2 OS install disk and was able to startup. Problem is that it didn't let me do anything. I couldn't see my hard drive or attempt any kind of repair. I also can now not eject the system disk. What do I do to first get the 9.2 OS install disk out of my computer and then how do I retrieve my system? I thought I would try rebooting from my MacBook OS X install disk, which I probably should have tried before the 9.2 OS.
I ran an update two days ago (Nov 30, 2009) for iTunes and Safari. The iTunes update installed, but the Safari update failed. Now none of the main Mac software will run, including Update, Mail, Safari, or iTunes. The icons just bounce once and do not proceed with the application. Thank goodness for Firefox.
What should I do? I've downloaded the MaxOSXUpdCombo10.4.11PPC.dmg today, but can't run it. I've already tried to run the auto update through Utility Terminal, and while it said it was updating I'm still not getting anything to open. I tried deleted the Safari phist and and History files from Library Preferences, but that didn't help.
I ran Disk Utility to Verify Disk Permissions and Repair, and everything ran without any error messages. Interestingly, when I click on either of the two disk icons (149.1 GB ST3160023As) and (Macintosh HD), neither will allow the Repair Disk icon on Disk Utility to work, it stays shaded.
I again ran Disk Utility and this time clicked on the top Disk Drive and then clicked "Verify Disk". A window popped up saying "First Aid Failed - Disk Utility stopped verifying Macintosh HD because the following error was encountered: The underlying task reported failure to exit"
Below this, here's what Disk Utility Reported:
Verifying volume Macintosh HD Checking HFS Plus volume. Checking Extents Overflow file. Checking Catalog file. Checking multi-linked files. Checking Catalog hierarchy. %) Checking Extended Attributes file. Checking volume bitmap. Volume Bit Map needs minor repair Checking volume information. Please help. Honestly, all I did was run auto update. I have the original system disks, and can run them if someone shows me how to fix this, as long as I'm not risking all my photos and files, etc. Yes, I should buy an external drive, will do.
Currently using OS X Lion, started the latest software update and computer crashed during the update. I forced the computer to turn off, but when I turn it on, it returns to the same "crashed" condition (grey screen with an apple logo in the center, plus the time symbol spinning).
Just did Software Update from Apple and it crashed severely. Now it will not boot-up. I had the fading down screen with a message saying to hold down the on Button to reboot but it will not, it starts up with the same massage. It also comes up with some and more of the info below, whatever it means?
Panic CPU 0 <Panic> Unable to find perform text scan: Debugger called <Panic> Can't perform text scan: SD process name corresponding to correct thread MAC OS Version: Not yet set.
I also updated a Mac Mini and iMac with no problems.

Installed MSOffice on my MBP with SL already installed. Office immediately wants to be updated with a "critical update" which is 200+ MB. Nearing the end of the update I get a message that says the update had a technical error, and it then shuts down. After this nothing in Office works.
Then I tried to post a message on MS's Mactopia forum and it won't let me log in. So I can't post, and I can't create a new account.I dragged the corrupted Office to the trash (their uninstall program wouldn't work either). Reinstalled Office and everything works. But it's not updated.
While trying to restart after downloading an iTunes update, my computer won't go past the grey screen with the apple and loading bar. When I hit command+s it says my system bootstrapper crashed. I've repaired the disk and disk permissions and it still won't load.
Every minute my server reports this message: servermgr_info: unexpected Software Update state: crashed A restart of the server stopps messaging this until the automatic nightly looking for software updates. In preferences the automatic software updates are disabled! How can I turn off the automatic looking for software updates of servermgr?Â

I have a problem with FileVault on my MacBook Air mid 2013, with yosemite 10.10.1 installed. On initial setup I turned on encrypting and it finished in an hour. But then I realized it uses too much energy and tried to turn it off, but it said the encryption is not finished and i need to connect to the power adapter. I've done it, but nothing happened. Even though the progress bar shows it's finished, I can't now turn it off.
I was making a screen recording for a video tutorial and when I finished, it stuck itself on "finishing." I haven't been able to force quit it in the dock or in Activity Monitor. I cannot shut my computer off or restart it. I have a 21.5' iMac running Mac OS X Lion version 10.7.3. My processor is 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5. I have 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. Here is a screenshot.

I recently purchased a Late 2008 Unibody MacBook. I am thrilled! Yet I seem to be having the same charging issue MANY other people have had and have still not found a solution. Basically, as with everyone else, when I connected the Magsafe connector, it stays on finishing charge as if stuck there. I have left it for 2 full days and nights now with no luck. I have calibrated the battery and it is still doing it. The battery only shows 60 cycles and it's health it at 80%. I've even reset the SMC with no avail.
My hard drive crashed and i ended up replacing it. I had downloaded LION OS from the app store and know i would like to re-install on my new hard drive.
I updated with the latest Lion patch yesterday and since then Entourage has either hung or taken a very long time to update from our 2003 Exchange server (I have MS Office 2011 but as you're probably aware, there are issues integrating with a 2003 Exchange server). how this might be fixed, short of updating both our 2003 Windows Server to Windows Server 2008 x64 and Exchange to 2010 so I (the only Mac user out of 85 staff) can use Outlook 2011?
Started the 10.7.4 install, and it halted. Turned my Mac off, started it back up, and apparently the 10.7.4 update didn't install, but it has caused the Mail function to not work AT ALL - I get a long error report that is auto sent to Apple.Â
I downloaded Lion from the Apple store, but have my Snow Leopard disk. How do I go about re-installing Mail?Â

"Software Update can't connect to the Update Server" - so I can't even check to see if updates are available. This has been going on for sometime. For a while if I created a new admin account and used that it would work, but not today.Tried creating a new admin account but to no avail.
I clcik on the Apple Icon, (top left hand side of screen), click on SOFTWARE UPDATE, it runs for a split second, then: [URL]after which I check my internet connect to see that it's fine. (And I attempt to run SU with nothing else using the internet). [URL] I've checked the forum and found a few people with the same problem. I've tried deleting PLISTs and using 008.008.008.008 DNS address, [URL], but still cannot get it to work. I still have my old G4 Power running OS 10.5.8 connected to the same modem (Netcomm NB6PLus4w Modem which has 4 ports) as my Mac Mini, and it runs Software Update without any issues. So it's not my internet connection and it's not the Apple server, so it's something about the Mac Mini that's not right.

Fortunately I got a time machine backup. And its restoring the drive while in Lion recovery mode. Here's what happened... I dont have a router a my place at the moment and so my two phones (iphone 4 and htc android) connect to my internet using my MBP's wifi via internet sharig. For some reason they were not able to get an IP from the mbp. After doing some wifi swtich toggles and forgettig & rejoining the network, i decided to reboot all my devices. I shut down my modem, phones and restarted my mbp. On reboot, after the chime, it showed an unsusal 'progress bar' under the apple logo. The bar progressed to about 10% and then the mbp just powered off. This happened several times even after PRAM and SMC reset. Â
So now i booted with cmd+r pressed and in recovery mode ran a 'verify disk'. It said the verification stopped and that i should repair the disk. When i tried to do that it said the disk cannot be repaird and that i should back up as many files as possible and attempt to format the disk and restore it with time machine. It is precisely what im doing at the moment. Â
1. Mbp wont sleep even when internet sharing is off
2. Mbp wont lit the onboard display upon opening it in clamshell mode until i removed the 3.5mm audio cable of my speakers from the audio out port!Â
I just bought my MacBook Pro and installed the updates... however, when I try to update my iTunes (since it says version 10.6.3 is available) but when it's almost done I get a message stating it can't be installed because the "update cannot be verified". How do I upgrade my MacBook to the latest iTunes?

I'm trying to update my Macbook Pro to the new 10.7.4 I have downloaded the update twice (no interruptions during download) and when i click to restart the computer to install the update, the update dosent install. I keep getting an error message saying the download is corrupted, when the update tries to unpack to install. Â
