I just upgraded (well the Mac store in Turin italy did it for me, I probably should have done it myself!). Everything great except I lost all my smart mailboxes and regular mailboxes. I had a big file of mail called "archive" - when I go to create a new one, I get a message that a file named "archive" already exists.
View 3 RepliesMail has been working well for a year on a mac air. mail had been running on my computer yesterday and, I assume it crashed, because when i got home and opened the computer mail was no longer open. and when I opened it it started running me through setup as if i had never used the program.there was no way to open mail without going through the setup -- that seems to be a problem to me right there.I kept canceling the setup but then it wouldn't launch mail. so finally i went through setup and resetup one of my email accounts. the name of the inbox is slightly different althought , as it turned out, the name of the outbox is identical.
the program recognized that there was already any outbox with this name but instead of linking with that in some way it instead named the new outbox "delivered" that's cool to avoid a conflict but there doesn't appear to be any way to tell the program just to reconnect with the previous boxes. I can import them but then then they come in an import folder. I'd like to get all my mail for a certain account into the same folder, not have what is essentially an archive folder for each account and an active one.
how to reconnect to these old mailboxes as active accounts, or how when importing to merge the appropriate mailbox with the appropriate account.or to restore mailbox settings/preferences or users or whatever was lost. I do have a backup that includes my library files to sugarsync if there is some kind of restore I could try.

I just upgraded to leopard on my mom's iMac G4. I did a install and archive but when I opened her Mail there were no emails. It saved all her mailboxes but there are no old emails. All her info in iCal and Address book are there... nothing else seems to be missing. I have a back up of her users setting from 10.3 so I know have her emails but don't know what I should do?

In Mac Mail, I accidentally dragged some of the default mailboxes (Drafts) out of the Mailboxes Pane on the left up to the top bar and they disappeared without so much as a warning message to let me know! I can't seem to find a way to get them back or the mail that was in them.

However, the original mailboxes then lost all email content and showed only the headers, so I rebuilt them both and hey presto - instantly lost the entire contents of both mailboxes, including headers. Any ideas for recovering? Have tried hosting server but emails have also gone from there.

I just upgraded to OS X 10.6 and in the process I lost almost all of my contacts in Address Book. I did a full backup before I did the upgrade, so I expect I still have the file even if it isn't still on the hard disk.

I have a 3.06 Intel Core Duo iMac and a 253 Intel Core i5 Macbook Pro. Both are running 10.6.8. They have until recently successfully shared my HP C8180 All in One Printer, the iMac being connected to the printer via USB and to a Netgear Router via Ethernet and the Macbook Pro being linked to the router wirelessly.Â
Having just updated the HP Drivers via software update on both machines the Macbook Pro is no longer able to connect to the printer via the iMac wirelessly and the printer is not reported as being "Nearby". It does however connect via the iMac if it is connected to the router via Ethernet !Â
Printer sharing is on on the iMac, I have tried removing the printer from both machines Preferences and re-instating them (which coincidentally has meant I have lost the connection to "Lightscribe" and can't get it back on either machine !) I've tried installing the latest HP Software to try and get the Macbook pro to connect to the printer directly via the router but witth no success - it reports that some of the HP software is not compatible with 10.6.8 despite HP saying it is for 10.6.Â

I recently just upgraded to Snow Leopard two days ago. Since then, I have lost the Hard Disk drive icons and I don't know how to get it back. In fact, I have no icons on my desktop at all except for the external hard drive that I have plugged in. How do I get my icons back? Especially the main hard disk one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedA few minutes ago I realised that many of my (many dozens of) Smart Mailboxes in Apple Mail (v4.5) have become corrupted. That is, they all have the same name and have all lost their selection criteria -- putting each one in 'edit' mode, I see that each simply has three selection conditions, all of which are empty. I have a huge backstore of email and use smart mailboxes to organise it all (by client, by job number, etc) in conjunction with MailTags. The MailTags data seems to be intact, so I don't think that's the problem (besides, some of my smart mailboxes that do not draw upon any MailTags-generated meta data are also affected). Â
I have tried restoring the smartmailboxes.plist file from TimeMachine (from a date 2 weeks ago -- and to the best of my knowledge my smart mailboxes were all intact last night).

I bought my MacBook Pro last year. It shipped with Snow Leopard. Since then I have been using File Vault, and within my Library folder, I had one main folder, a sub folder, and a sub-sub folder locked. Never had any problems accessing those folders. Yesterday, I upgraded to Lion and now the "Library" folder does not even show up and is unsearchable.
I tried turning off the Legacy File Vault and it required more disk space than I had available on the main hard drive, so I cloned the HD onto my LaCie 4TB Thunderbolt drive, making a bootable drive, re-booted from LaCie, and de-crypted it on there. This did not make my folder re-appear.Do I need to revert to Snow Leopard in order to see that folder again? De-crypt and then upgrade to Lion?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been working on an Excel file for the last month continuously saving at every moment. At some point something happened and the file name now included a (version 1) after the original file name. I didn't worry about that because I was able to work on the file and keep on saving my work. I did some changes yesterday and saved it. All of a sudden I got a message that there was an upgrade ready to be installed at night. So I saved the file and did the upgrade. my file was nowhere to be found. I keep looking at Finder and I can only find a file with a similar name not the one with the (version 1) on it. I opened that file but it doesn't include any of the changes and updates I have done in the last month. I never deleted the file and I have double checked on the Trash and its not there. Is there a way to recover my file? The only thing that I did differently was that I completely powered of my mac as opposed to just closing it.Â

How do I restore my contacts that were lost during Mavericks upgrade? All of my contacts are gone. My version of Contacts in Time Machine is 7.1, which can't be opened in Mavericks (version 8.0). I know they are in there somewhere. I also don't use ICloud, so I can't find them there.

I have a ignorant friend that just upgraded from Panther (10.3) to Leopard (10.5) via the upgrade method and did not backup before hand. His issue is that the Mail conversion didn't complain, but all mailboxes contents were missing.
The Inbox folder in Mail was empty and Drafts was completely missing, as well as some other system generated folders (AFAIK). Other user created folders were in Mail on the left, but were empty. We were able to import the Foo.mbox folders into Mail, so we got the user created folders contents back, but that doesn't help for drafts or few hundred emails in the inbox.
OS 10.5 and she suddenly lost the desktop. All blue. Classic comes up but can't be opened. She can access the web. But nothing else. She is most concerned about losing her files, not all of which were backed up.

They have not the latest generation but the prior Intel generation -- that shipped with Leopard.
Being the family IT guy, last time I was in town I purchased the Snow Leopard retail DVD family pack upgrade and upgraded my parents machines to Snow Leopard. I couldn't upgrade my brother's mini because he had it away at school.
Now he is back at my parents house (as am I) and I was all set to upgrade his machine to Snow Leopard but I can't find the retail install disk I purchased.
However, I do have the Snow Leopard Mac Mini OSX install DVD that shipped with my recently purchased (latest generation) Mac Mini.
Question -- does anyone know if I could use this latest generation Snow Leopard Mac Mini system install DVD (the one that shipped with my mac Mini) to upgrade my brother's previous generation mac mini running Leopard to snow leopard.
Not looking to do a clean install but rather the upgrade.
Anyhow ever tried this? I obviously don't want to upgrade his previous generation machine with drivers, etc. for my latest generation --- rather JUST get his leopard upgraded to snow leopard.
I have mac mini (early 2009) running leopard and want to upgrade to snow leopard. I've bought a disk from a local store and when I try to install I get as far as 45 minutes to go when the installer reboots the computer and says it will continue to install after reboot. So it reboots kicks the disk out and reboots back into Leopard. The Apple site says it is probably a bad disk, so I got another one, still does the same. Apple also says it might be the dvd drive, I have no other issues with the drive, it installs the original leopard disks without problem, it reads video dvd's without problem, it verifies the snow disk as perfect.

I used to be able to press command(apple) F5 on my keyboard to raise my volume (and apple f4 to lower it). Now when I hit command F5 I get this voice over thing popping up and it's a quite frustrating. I am on a Macbook Pro and that was the key used to adjust volume prior to the upgrade. Now I learned that ctrl F5 works but I was wondering if and how I can return the function to command F5

It was a little separate dock from the main dock and when I clicked on the visible part a tray would slide out with all the little widgets. Unfortunately I clicked "close" and the little dock disappeared. The application was still there in Applications but when I clicked on it, the little dock did not appear.
So I downloaded Yahoo Widgets again - it was called "Gallery" but even though an application called "Yahoo Widgets" appears in the Applications list, when I click on it, nothing happens. Unfortunately, Yahoo is ending support for this Widget Engine and I think the download has been deleted from their site. So I am thinking of restoring the widget from a backup that I made of the Mac HD but even though I have the hard disk attached to my computer.
I don't know how to find and restore the files for this application to make the little separate Yahoo Widget dashboard or dock appear on my desktop again. I have checked start "Yahoo Widgets" in System preferences under user and starting items. I really don't know what to do after this step but would really like to have this Yahoo widget dock again on my desktop because it was very useful.
