Jun 18, 2012Is it possible that the sender (From) field of every incoming mail is announced? This would be fine when I'm in the same room, but away from my Mac. At the moment I only hear a beep when mails arrive, have to go to the Mac and check the sender, mostly in vain.

May 20, 2012I've recently migrated to Lion and am finding the new layout of Mail frustrating as it shows my mail by the recipient rather than the sender. As the recipient is usually me, I have what appears to be a inbox of emails to myself but I have to open each email (or preview it) to reveal who actually sent it to me. Is there a way to have the sender (From field) showing in the list rather than the To field?
I need to have them sorted by Date so that the most recent messages are at the top. But when I choose View > Message Attributes the option to select "From" is already ticked but it is also greyed out. I have temporarily fixed this by using the classic view but I would really like to know how to do this in the new view?
Applications :: ICal Bundled With Mac Mail And Address Book
Aug 19, 2010I purchased a Mac computer with Snow Leopard already installed on the computer, and somewhere along the way I deleted iCal. As I understand it from the Apple link below, iCal is "bundled" with Mac Mail and Address Book [URL]. And that Mac Mail can be configured to include online email accounts like gmail. I'm currently using Mac Mail 4.3 (1081), and as far as I know, I cannot use this version of Mac Mail to include online email like gmail. This particular version of Mac Mail is corrupted on my computer as the plus sign and edit buttons on the bottom of the Address Book are not visible. I am interested in re-gaining the use of the plus sign and edit button within the Mac Mail Address Book, and also in accessing online email accounts within Mac Mail.
Since Snow Leopard was already installed on my computer when I purchased it, I don't currently have a Snow Leopard installation disk. As such, what is the best way for me to update my Mac Mail application in order to use the Address Book and online email account applications mentioned above within Mac Mail. My best guess is to purchase the Snow Leopard installation disk independently, and use Pacifist software to extract iCal from this disk, and through iCal, use Mac Mail for my two applications of interest.

Strangely enough it was not there anymore. My qurestion is this,.. if an email is sent by someone, ....and it is not opened up,... can that sender (using a downloaded app of some sort) retract that email after giving it some thought ... so that the recipient doesn't have that email anymore?Â

Oct 31, 2009I have one IMAP email account and setup various email aliases. I used for each alias also a sender name. I tried to setup different sender email addresses and names in Apple Mail but did not succeed.
I was only able to add a comma separate list o email addresses to one account but not different sender names for each email address.
BTW, I also can't setup different accounts for each email address because they share the same IMAP Mail Server with the same account username and password.

Both the alias and the main account were created in my name (not his) and yet his name appears as the sender and recipient on messages sent and received through the alias. I've rechecked settings in iCloud and his name is not anywhere. Why is this happening and how can I change it so that my name rather than his appears on messages?

OS X :: Don't Get Permissions When Unpack Rar Files
Dec 8, 2009I got a strange one for you, when I unpack rar files either with UnrarX or The Unarchiver I don't get permission on the file (mkv file). My admin account get's no permissions at all. The staff group get's read only and everyone get's no permissions at all! How can I fix this? I tried repair permissions with the disk utility didn't do a thing. Running Snow Leopard 10.6.2. And this started earlier today without me doing anything to my system or Unrarx/The Unarchiver.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Reinstall Bundled Apps After Running Recovery
Apr 28, 2012I previously had Lion installed and decided to wipe my Mac and re-upgrade to Lion. So, I've both zapped the parameter RAM and erased the hard drive, then done a fairly normal install of Snow Leopard. It successfully goes through this process, using my recovery disc, I get through Apple's initial "out-of-box experience" including setting up a user account, and get to the desktop.
There are no issues to this point, no errors, etc. However, having put in the bundled apps DVD, when I run the installer, I get the error: "There were errors with the installation. The installation failed. An unknown error occurred. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." I have repeatedly gotten this error. I have both done a simple reformat of my HDD and a "write zeros" option.
Also, I have tried this before and after doing any software updates. I've also used the Apple Hardware Test which says there were no problems. Disk Utility shows S.M.A.R.T. status as verified, hard drive formatting takes a normal amount of time, and there are no other symptoms of any kind. The unit is stock, and there is nothing attached except for the AC adaptor. The only thing I haven't done yet is do the Lion upgrade, but honestly I shouldn't have to do that just to reinstall the bundled apps.

Dec 14, 2010My Macbook Air will arrive sometime this month, and I've gone for the 64GB SSD 11" model.
I've noticed a few people saying they have reinstalled OS X when their machine has arrived to remove the bundled apps and get some drive space.
I have never had a machine with an SSD before, and I was just wondering whether doing a clean install would affect the performance of the Macbook at all? I've heard stories about how certain things can degrade the performance of the SSD, but I don't really understand the technology yet.
As this is only going to be a portable writing machine, I certainly don't need any of iLife or the other apps that come pre-installed.

Aug 18, 2010I use gmail through my Mac Email, I have it synced up. My contacts are labeled as my friends names, for instance Joe Smith, would just be "Joe." Every time I email someone, their name automatically changes, and the last name is added, so Joe, is now Joe Smith. On the surface this doesnt seem like a terrible problem, but a lot of my friends I call by their last name, so if Joe Smith was entered under Smith, after I send an email, he is now "Smith Smith." In addition this change translates over into GMail, and my GChat contact would now be named Smith Smith or do I just have to label everyone with their first and last names?

OS X Mavericks :: When Export Email As PDF It Only Displays Sender Details Not Content
Sep 11, 2014I normally export any email I wish to save as a PDF, for some reason a tax receipt I've just received, when exported as PDF, displays only as the sender's details, i.e. name, address, date sent etc.
I've tried saving as RTF and converting but when it converts to PDF it moves the formatting around so figures aren't in one column anymore.

Apr 2, 2012This is the first time i reinstalled(clean install) my snow leopard on my MBP. All went fine but then i inserted the disc for bundled application (which contains the ilife apps) but it keeps failing.Â

I've also done my research on this matter. I've gone thru a few steps i tried as below without success:Â
1)normal install - fail
2)repair permission - fail
3)install in safe mode - fail
4) install using another admin acc - fail
5) made an image out of the disc and install - fail
6) used a similar disc(my dad's since we have identical version) - fai
7)updated my system and install - fail
8) reinstall the mac - failÂ
i cant think of any other solution as im a bit noob when it comes to mac. is there any other things i could try before taking it Apple?
