OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Configure Printer To Use Duplex All The Time
Jun 15, 2012
As with most companies, ours is on a push to go greener. The IP department has decided that one thing that can be done is to encourage the use of duplex printers. We have one, but from the Mac you must go in and specifically select printing on both sides somewhere in the print screen for each app. Is there a way in the setup of the printer to make duplex printing the default?

Printer software for canon MP830 is unavailable from Apple. I downloaded the driver from canon and installed it. It shows on the desktop, but I cannot add the printer. It keeps wanting to find the software at apple. How do I configure this to work?

I think it's time for me to go to wireless printing, and I'm tired of printing only single-sided (or trying to manually feed printed paper back in to try to get it two-sided.
Are there affordable laser printers out there that print duplex, have wireless, and are Mac-compatible?

I'm looking for a printer with the following:
- Color
- Has automatic two-sided printing
- Works well with OSX
- Small footprint is a plus, but not a dealbreaker
- If it has a scanner that would be nice, but not required
- I don't really care about WiFi printing
I'm going to use the printer mostly to print out reports and long pdf documents. I don't really care for photo printing.

My lab just got a new HP Color LaserJet CP3525 and while everyone else can print double sided (both Linux and OS X), I am utterly unable to. I don't even have the option. This is weird, because I have the correct drivers installed and in the system preferences panel, I have the option for duplex printer checked.

My printer won't stop printing in duplex mode. I have disabled all duplex settings and it's still printing double sided.

After I setup an exernal drive on my network, I started using Time Machine. However, I did not know how slow my computer would become when it backs up and it backs up constantly. This is on my home computer, and there isn't that much irreplaceable data, I just want to backup documents and my photo library as they change. But it seems like Time Machine keeps backing up too much. I may not make any new documents or import any new files, and yet when time machine is backing up it says it's backing up several gigabytes; and it does so while slowing down my internet and computer processes. Â
All I want to do is have it backup documents and photos/media. I know you can choose to exclude certain things, but is there a way to configure it so it only backs up the things that I choose?

I have a Mac/Windows home network with two airport extreme base stations. One is connected to my dsl modem. The other is used wirelessly to extend the network, and I have a Xerox Phaser 5500 connected to one of its lan ports. Until recently, all computers, connected wirelessly could share the internet connection and print to the Phaser. Due to a power failure, I had to reset both the Airport base stations. I can still connect to the internet, however I can not print from any of the computers.

Can someone tell me how to configure Time Machine so it doesn't do a complete backup every time?I seem to get constant errors because my disk space fills up quickly. For some reason I don't think it did this when I first started using it. I use SuperDuper also, but have a drive connected to my iMac all the time for Time Machine.

I am new to Macs. I recently setup a router (D-Link 655) and attached my Lexmark E260dn printer to it using a static IP address 192.168.0.100. I added a printer to my MBP but when I print something it seems to take an unusually long time to find the printer. The printer dialog says "looking for printer" until it actually starts to print. I added the same printere to my aging Windows XP system using the install CD and it works as you would expect. Files begin printing immediately. What might I be doing wrong from the MBP?

I had a computer accident, and I think it my Macbook may be done for, but I do have my computer backed up through Time Machine on an external hard drive (but not a Time Capsule). When I buy a new Macbook Pro can I plug in my external hardrive and somehow configure my new computer to look like/be automatically organized like my old one? (that's what Time Machine is/supposed to do, right?) For example, I had Vmware Fusion on my Macbook and within it ran the mapping program ArcGis. If I do the "Time Machine thing" when configuring my new computer, will that all be in place (with the same file paths, etc), or will I have to re-install Vmware fusion and ArcGis, etc? Also, will there be a prompt when I open the new Macbook Pro asking me to connect an external hardrive, or something of that sort? (sorry for the dumb questions. I always backed up on Time Machine for safety, but never thought about actually how to do it).

My time machine hasn't backed up since November 22. Every time it went for it's scheduled back-up it skipped and went to the next scheduled backup. When I tried to reconfigure the time capsule it won't let me select the disk that I would like to use for the time machine. Everything else is working fine (airport wifi at least). Here are some screenshots:

OK, I've found most of what I need to configure Lion but I can't find the preference panel to change the 'all spaces' view to the old style (where you see all the spaces or desktops placed on the screen in equal sizes). The new default 'mission control' view isn't as useful to me. I also don't see where to assign apps to a specific space. Finally, how do you get at the 'spaces' option for a hot corner?

I am new to Lion Server and OS X in general (especially Terminal and all the Unix Commands), used to Windows Server where this is a basic no-brainer in IIS Admin Tools. How can I setup the Lion Server Wiki/WebMail/and other built in webpages to run over SSL. Not sure if Apache would support SSL Hostheaders like IIS does though but if not I have a few
I have a valid externally trusted cert, changed the host name to the external name etc. The router is forwarding fine but for my life I cannot find the UI piece where I can tell all the web pages to accept SSL requests.I created a Website in the Web Pane and pointed it at 443 and that works fine so I know the router talks to the right box

how I need to configure the mailserver. I want to receive my mails from my ISP, gmail, hotmail, etc. on the mail server, where I can get them per IMAP to my Mac/iPhone/PC. Where can I set this up. I can't find/I don't know how to call my mails from e.g my ISP to get it on the mailserver. If it's working, does the mailserver call it from my ISP with POP?

I was having problems printing from my Canon LBP6000. Print jobs remained held in the queue. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Mac CAPT Ve r340 driver from Canon's website, no improvement. The printer works fine with my Windows laptop. I found an option to remove all printers from the Print preferences section. I can't remember how I did this, but all printers were removed. I reinstalled the above driver, but now in the 'print & scan' - 'add printer' section, I have no printer options. And no idea how to get printer options.

When I load the installation CD I get a message 'PowerPC applications no longer supported'. I would like to find a way to configure the WLAN without using the wizard on this disk that I'm unable to see. Brother support doesn't appear to address the problem. Â
I managed to download and install the driver from Brother but do not have a clue about TCP/IP and how to set up a static IP address manually.Â

With Lion Server Apple killed the FTP Service & GUI to configure the FTP. In the NET I found plenty of description how to enable to ftp, but I found nothing how to configure the sharepoint and ftpusers with the command line. Is their any instructions around. We need to use ftp for some industrial machines we do not offer SFTP. We tried also the Rumpus FTP Server but this isn't stable enough.

I have a brand new Mac OS X Lion server. How do I go about setting up my Lion server to download updates for my other workstations (about 30). These workstations are mixed with Macbook Pros using 10.6 as well as some using 10.7, iMac's using 10.6 and 10.7 and Mac Pros using 10.7. What do I need to do on the client side as well so that they can download from my OS X server. I have created a DNS entry for my OS X server in my DNS as well as a static IP.

I have an iMac 27" (intel 3.4 GHz, Intel core i7, and 16 GB memroy) purchased a few months ago. It is running the latest version of Lion 10.7.4 I run this computer on our network along with a iMac 24" 3.5years old and a Macbook Pro 2.5year old.Â
This computer seems to have a beef with the Hewlett-Packard printer (HP colour laser jet CM1312nfi MFP) which I have had for about 3 years. I can not get the new computer to work with the printer properly. It allows printing but it pauses all the time when you resume the print it starts printing from the begining of the document againIt will pause any prints sent to it across the network after the first 1 or 2 pages are printedIt won't allow scanning at allWhen you launch the scanner it takes forever to connect (3 - 4 mins)If you try to scan using any of the scan options (if it loads the devise) it then states it can not connect to the device, or all the scan buttons apear but greyed out. This is odd as it will still allow printing??Â
Also, all the other PC's have the same version of Lion 10.7.4 and have the latest HP Driver installed (these were released on the 14 Dec 2011). Other useful infoThe scanner is hard wired to the 27" machineYou can only use the printer if one scanner is hard wired as it does not have wirless capacity.I have uninstalled and installed the software more times than i can count trying all different trouble shooting etcI can only conclued that there is somthing the 27" machine is doing to prevent the scnanner registering properlyNone of the other computers can use the scanner correctly either. As you can only scan a page at a time using the "Scan" button. If I wish to scan multiple pages on with either of the other computers I need to use the "scan to folder" button.Â

I'm sure we've all seen the weird IMAP glitch where mail subfolders appear down lower on the mail.app pane instead of nested neatly under the mailbox itself. Usually you can get around this by changing the Inbox IMAP prefix to "" or "INBOX" or "/" or some such path that the server recognizes as the root path to your IMAP folder. Unfortunately, this sometimes means you are unable to work with those folders or introduce other problems.Since I am running Lion (Client) and Lion Server as my mail host, I would think that there is an appropriate answer to this either on the mail.app client settings, or perhaps with a Lion Server configuration through DOVECOT. I don't mind if the solution is a command-line one, but I need to be able to easily set up my mailboxes so that mail subfolders appear properly under each mailbox, instead of being hidden away lower on the page where it is very inconvenient to find, especially when you are using multiple email accounts.

When using the trackpad on my MacBook Air running OS X Lion v 10.7.3, I can easily access Misison Control with a three-finger swipe up, and then use the three-finger swipe left or right to view each of my individual desktops (while in mission control). I hope to gain similar functionality using the wheel button and wheel of my Logitech mouse (when I am at work and am using a keyboard and mouse).Â
I have downloaded the Logitech Control Center for Macintosh® OS X (available at [URL]) and configured Mission Control to load when I click on my wheel button. I currently have the wheel itself configured for vertical scrolling (e.g., for navigating web pages in Safari).Â
how I can specify a different role for the mouse wheel when in Mission Control - namely rotating wheel up will do the equivalent of the three-finnger swipe left, and rotating wheel donw will do the equvialent of three-finger swipe right?
