OS X V10.7 Lion :: Editing Bookmarks Causes Safari To Hang?
Jul 5, 2012
I have a longish list of bookmarks, which I synchronize to iCloud. When adding new ones or editing existing ones, I find at least 50-75 per cent of the time Safari hangs for a minute or so, spinning beachball and all.
When adding a bookmark either by dragging to the bookmark bar or using Bookmarks tabs, Safari beachballs.I have to force quit.Just had a new hard drive installed from the Genius Bar. Running OSx10.6.8 .Problem started as soon as I got it home and restored from an external hard drive. Downloaded Safari 5.1.4 and still have the problem.Â
Other than going into 'show all Bookmarks' is there any alternative way of editing my bookmarks? I've collected hundreds and dragging them around one by one is going to be pretty time consuming. I used to have a third-party app called 'Bookmark Farm' which gave me a way of visually categorizing in a graphic layout. Now, when I want to Bookmark, got to scroll through folders and subfolders. Must be an easier way!
Recently bought a MacBook Pro with Lion. Switching from a 12" aluminum G4PB (non-Intel) so I can't use Migration Assistant.Old laptop doesn't have iCloud capability as far as I know.Tried copying the old Safari.plist to the Lion Library but this didn't work.I noticed there is a second Safari plist-like file in Library/Preferences under Lion.
All my bookmarks in the bookmarks bar. I want to move them all so they are just in bookmarks menu dont want anything in bookmarks bar. I have edited renamed moved the bookmarks from bookmarks bar without a problem until I quite safari. Once I reopen safari all changes I made disappear and it reverts back to original with all bookmarks on bookmarks bar. what am I doing wrong that i cannot make permanent changes to my bookmark bar on Safari 5.1.3?
After my recovery drive went missing and trying to reinstall it, had to do a format of my hard drive and reinstall everything once I got OS X reinstalled and up-to-date, I tried to import my bookmarks from a backup bookmarks file, when I quit safari and re-open safari bookmarks were missing and default ones back in place. When searching though the forums for how to fix this problem but too know unluck they did not work.
I'm running Safari 5.1.3 on imac on 10.7.3. I just synced my ipad to computer. On my bookmarks bar on the ipad I had only 2 bookmarks. On the computer I had a whole bunch. Same with bookmarks menu. After the sync, on my computer, it had deleted all the bookmarks on my bookmarks bar, and only left me the 2 that were on the ipad. Same with bookmarks menu. Seems to have affected bookmarks bar and menu only. Rest of bookmarks are OK. I have an external backup drive and backed up a week ago. But, have never had to restore anything. What's the procedure to restore the bookmarks bar and menu in Safari, using time machine?
Well I still can't get bookmarks to sync proper with Lion. I have three Mac Pros, two ipads and iMac 3.4 27inch and iPhone 4s. Every thing syncs on all devices ,,,,, All but the bookmarks between the computers. The ios devices sync fine, but no two computers will sync bookmarks. I have tried everything on the forums and a few more of my own, but to no avail!
Info:iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4), Mac Pro, Quad, Eight core, iMac 27
Had to reinstall system. All back up with Time Machine. Finally got everything re-installed but cannot figure out how to re-install and restore Safari Bookmarks.
I use Xmarks to sync my bookmarks from FF to Safari, but on Safari, the bookmark bar shows the number of link inside a Folder/Dropdown, is there a way to hide that ?
Why are iTunes and Safari the two applications I have ever used that are most likely to hang and/or crash? I mean, what's so hard for Apple to make these two very heavily used applications stable?
Occassionally the web browsers on my system will hang (indefinetly) when trying to load pages, I am connected to the internet and this issue doesnt occurr on my PC so I am assuming the problem resides on my mac, screenshot attached, Â
Well, I didn't change or install anything but since this afternoon Safari began to pause about 3/4 of the way loading a page. It would hang for about 3 seconds, give me the color wheel then load the rest of the page.
So, I installed Firefox and Chrome and they both do the same thing.
I had to force it down during the installation cause in hang up. When I tried a restart the grey screen comes up as usually and the small wheel spins underneath. It spins for hrs. I tried the safe mode but it shows that all is good with the HD. Bootcamp works normally as I am writing from that part right now.
Could some teach me on how to take a copy of my Bookmarks from Safari, then be able to transfer that on my other Safari app while I'm logged in on my guest log in?
And also on how to take my iTune playlist to my other iTune app on my guest log in please..
After "upgrading" to Lion, my MacPro refuses to complete either a Restart or Shut Down cycle. How can I discover what is hanging up the process? System: MacPro1,1; 8GB RAM, OS X 10.7.3, 4x2TB internal drives, all software updates applied. Â
I've update to 10.7.4, and ever since my iCal and Mail get the beach cursor - I've waited an hour and longer and then forced quit them, after that they work for a few minutes (Mail longer, iCal until you create or change an item). I realise that Spotlight is reindexing (since this morning, and still saying "estimating indexing time".
I am running 10.7.4, build 11E53, and running into this problem:Â
The thing hangs here, like so.Â
Thinking it might explain something to someone I ran tail -f /var/log/install.log in terminal and got:Â

Having an issue with Safari 4.0.2, when I click to add a website to my bookmarks, it gives me the pop-up, I choose my folder and click Add, but when I check in the folder, nothing has been added.
I am running Lion 10.7.3 on a 2.8GHz CoreDuo iMac from 2007 and on a Macbok Air 2.13 GHz Core duo from 2010. The iMac has 4GB of RAM the Macbook has 2 GB RAM.Â
I run Microsoft Office 2011 on both machines. For the same file the Macbook operates normally on Word and Excel. The iMac is slow at best and when I try a Save As it hangs for up to 15 minutes brfor letting me change the FIle Name. This effectively makes it unusable.Â
As far as I can tell the set up of Office on both Machines is identical and I have eliminated duplicate Fonts as suggested by some posts but the problem remains. I have checked Activity Monitor and I am not getting any Page Outs so RAM does not appear to be an issue.
I've had Snow Leopard since launch. I want to do a fresh install, and then copy the files I want onto it from my external hard-drive. I have some questions though:
Will I have to redownload all the system updates that came out since Snow Leopard's launch? Is there a way around that?
Is there a way to save Safari's bookmarks?
If I want to keep a certain application, do I save the DMG or the installed icon onto the hard drive?
I copied the Pictures folder onto the hard-drive, which includes the 'iPhoto Library' file. Will this put my events back onto iPhoto?
How do I save address book contacts?
How do I save iTunes playlists/play counts/library etc?
Maybe there's an easier way of doing a fresh install while still being able to select these things to keep?
I've followed the usual instructions for deleting bookmarks but they keep showing up again every time I bring up Safari again. I've shut down the computer and reinstalled Safari without resolution of the problem. My OS is OS 10.6.
