Jun 20, 2012Running a fairly new iMac with 10.7.4 and came home to find that the finder flashes, I can't access the trash and the files on the desktop disappeared. Haven't downloaded anything (and my kids also claim not to have).

And, to uninstall something, is all you do is right-click and "send to trash"? Will that delete any and all files associated with that app?

May 1, 2012Despite having several files in the trash, its icon never changes (always shows an empty trash) and the "Empty Trash" option is dimmed (that is, cannot be used). OnyX ws the only solution but it's temporary. What's the fix I should apply to Mac OS X? Also, why is it that every time I want to move a file to trash I must enter my password? It's annoying to say the least.Please help me as I don't want to go through the royal pains of installing everything again, Windows-style. I think Mac OS X should be better than that.

Emptying the trash is fine, though.I thought maybe I had clicked an option in Onyx that caused this, but having looked several times, I can't see anything in Onyx that would cause this. I've tried repairing disk permissions using Disk Utility, with no effect.

So now I have a trash folder full all my Drobo's content and I can't figure out how to get it all back to "put back"! Jun 7, 2008I'm having a major problem with Photoshop CS3. After a hang up it launches but hangs up on trying to open any file on my HD. I've tried reinstalling Photoshop, also unistalling it an performing a clean install (not of all the CS3 suite - just Photoshop), I've deleted preferences, I've created a new user and it works OK, so I tried copying the preferences (settings, Paths & plist) and pasting them into my current user prefs, but it does not work. I've run Disk Utility and repaired permissions. Still doesn't work. I'm a designer and need to have this programme up and running fast since I've got work to give in. I'm on a G5 Dual Proc running Tiger 10.4.11.

Mar 12, 2012Is there a way to prevent apps from accessing files that are in the trash? I recently got bit when I moved some files to the trash, checked to make sure that nothing was broken, and then took out the trash. Turned out some applications were still using the files while they were in the trash. Is there a way, either in terminal or finder, to leave the files in the trash but make it so no apps can see them? It would be nice if this was the normal behavior.

Apr 1, 2012I have waht appear to be a profile specific issue that prevents me from moving files from a 2nd drive in my machine to the trash when using my standard profile.Â
I to to my 2nd internal drive and when I drag a file to the trash it asks me "Are you sure you want to delete "xxxxx.jpg"Â The item will be deleted immediately, You can't undo this action. If I click OK the item is delted and does not do to the trash. It aks liek is is an external drive, not an internal driveÂ
But when I delete a file from my Macintosh HD drive the item goes to the trash as it should. Â
If I log into my Admin account, the files from the second internal drive moves to the trash normally. I have set my normal login from standard to admin and it stil has the issue, I also have run disk utility and disk warrior and rebuilt the directory, but it has not changed the problemÂ

Jul 2, 2012I just got my new macbook pro today , and when I plugged in my toshiba portable external HDD, the computer put every (or what appears to be every) file in the trash bin. Strangely, the files are still on the HDD and the files disappear when I eject it. I reconnected the hard drive multiple times and the problem still persists. I cannot find one logical explanation as to why this is happening.

Feb 4, 2012I'm running Lion 10.7.2 and have noticed in Finder that the contents of many folders aren't visible. This seems to be for newer files added. For example, I copied a folder from a thumb drive, into my (username) -> (Documents) folder. I see that folder name, but there are no files inside. When I "Get Info" about that folder, it tells me, as expected, there are 30 items, and almost a MB of data. Furthermore, when I back up to SuperDuper, I can actually see what I'm looking for - all files are there in that folder and for every other folder! In addition, searching in Spotlight finds any/all of the files contained within the folder. My problem, again, is that no files, none, not one, are visible in various folders, yet they exist, and are retrievable, via Spotlight. Should I do a disk check, or other recommended procedures?Â

Jun 3, 2012Connecting to a Windows Server 2003 share via SMB has an undesirable side effect: after the SMB connection is established, all newly created files saved to the local hard drive do not appear in Finder or in application's open dialog box.Using SMB because after I upgraded a bunch of Mac Pros to Lion 10.7.4 (from 10.6.8 using Apple's latest 10.7.4 installer) these Macs can no longer connect to Windows Server 2003 shares via AFP. I tried the advice given in OS X Lion: Connecting to legacy AFP services url..., but it does not fix the problem.I can connect using SMB, but that causes an unacceptable side effect: after connecting via SMB the Macs' file system no longer displays newly created files. To repeat: If I go to (for example) TextEdit and save a newly-created file to the Desktop or to a folder, that file does not appear in the Finder or in an application's Open dialog box.
These newly created files can be found by searching by name or using All My Files. If I click on the file in the list of found files and nudge its icon a tiny bit, the vanished file will suddenly appear in the Finder. Sometimes on Desktop when a file is made to appear by nudging only the file's name will appear. Its icon will be transparent.I can clear this problem by restarting. All vanished files will become visible. Then everything works normally until the Windows 2003 Server is accessed using SMB. Then the problem returns for all files created after that.My temporary solution is to use muCommander to access the Windows Server via SMB. muCommander does not trigger the problem.

May 19, 2012For some reason, now when I delete or try to drag files/folders to trash, I get warning message 'This item will be deleted immediately. You can't undo this action.' And the files do NOT go into trash. Same if I CMD delete. I noticed this when I emptied the Aperture trash, got a warning something about permissions and cannot empty some files. They disappeared from Aperture, but the referenced master files were still in the original folder on my HD.(So I relocated the masters I was keeping, then deleted the remaining, they did not go into the trash but were permanently deleted). I don't recall changing any settings!I checked in Finder > Preferences > Advanced > 'Empty trash securely' is NOT selected.
