Is there a way to show the computer name in a FInder window? I sometimes open windows to other computers on my home network and copy files. It can be confusing as to which computer a particular window is connected to.

I am running a show and have a computer in front of me and the second display is appearing on a large screen on stage where I cannot see it. When I click on a folder on the desktop it opens the window on the second screen instead of on the one on my computer. When I Mirror Displays it appears again on the computer, but when I turn it off (it has to be turned off when I run the show) the window opens in the second screen. I have restarted, reset the PRAM, don't know how to get the window to appear on the primary screen..

Normally, the Finder window will display a folder's size in the Size column. However, I have one folder which shows as "Zero KB" in the Size column. When I open the General Info window, the Size reads as "Zero KB on disk (Zero bytes) for 0 items."
In order to get the folder size I have to go into the folder, select all folders, then with either the Summary Info or Inspector window, it'll show the folder size ("185.32 GB on disk").
Why is this occurring in only this folder? Is it because it's a large folder?
I'm running Snow Lep 10.6.2. The folder is on an external drive in FAT32 format.
I used to be able to see how much space on the HD was available in the finder window but it is now gone.

I'm using an iMac Core i7 running 10.7.3 and I wanted to access my Application support folder (in user/Library), I couldn't find it. It seems my user Library has become invisible, but I can't 'see' it from the finder, nor can I access its contents. I know it's there since I tried to make a new folder called, "Library" and the system told me 'there is already one by that name...' Also if I select 'Open' from another program, I can clearly see it, but only from the 'Open' window.Â
Is this a known issue with Lion 10.7.3? And does anyone know how to resolve this?Â
The finder window on my MacMini (OSX 10.7) keeps dropping off the screen and cannot be retrieved. Where did it go? Clicking on the Finder icon gets no results.

Every time I open finder I have to drag it out to the size I want it. It will not remember the size I put it at. How do I get it to remember. MBA Mid-2011 with Lion installed 10.7.4.Â
If I restart it its back to a real small size again and with a 11" MBA that is small.

I don't know when started to happen, but when I open a window of Finder, and click in the left sidebar to see what is in Desktop, it didn't show in the right panel, it open a Terminal window. If I click Applications, or Music, it works good, but not with Desktop. I already installed Lion again 3 times, but when restoring from Time Machine, it starts to doing that.

On the left side of the finder window it shows "Favorites" and under that "Shared" pops up with what I assume are other computers nearby. These are not names of other computers in my house. These computer names pop up and come and go. They are the same two names. Underneath the "shared" names, my external drives show up under "Devices". Just recently Finder has stopped behaving as it normally would. Clicking the icon doesn't seem to launch the finder window. I have to right click the finder icon and then click New Finder Window. When I open preview the window never appears. The Preview menu is present. The four-finger swipe down will show me all the files I have opened previously. But when I select one, nothing happens. Every now and again, I can get a document to open but generally I give up. This has been going on for a while. I've tried menu file>open , option-click - file open with in finder, I've tried pdf documents etc. The other thing that has been bugging me is the inability to close files. When I do actually get a preview window to display, the side bar includes a variety of files I have opened previously. Actually, I think it has kept every last file I have ever opened in preview....disconcerting actually.

Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.Â
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was playing with the maximize button on a Finder window a few days ago and toggling it would yield a different size every time (guess I was amused by that). So it go into a state where the resize corner is out of reach always now. Clicking on the maximize button does not change the size at all and just remains there. I want to be able to resize Finder again. How do I do it? For reference, attached is the screenshot of my desktop with Finder window, so you can see what I mean. I am unable to find a way to get it to a stage where the full window can be shown and I can resize it.
