Hardware :: Unable To Put Keys Back On Apple Keyboard

Sep 11, 2009

I have an aluminum wired apple keyboard and I'm trying to rearrange the keys to a Dvorak layout. Everything went fine except for 4 keys in the top row (the row right below the numbers). For some reason, I can't put 4 keys back in over there.

MacBook Air :: Keyboard A And Backspace Keys Fail And Come Back At The Same Time

Dec 11, 2014

I have a Macbook Air, it's 18 months old, and the keyboard is sporadically fail. I see no pattern. The A and Backspace keys are the main two to go, they fail at the same time, and come back at the same time.

System details:
1.7 GHz Intel Core i7
8GB RAM
Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB
Serial: C02KVGZKF6T6

I always keep the system up to date with software, I don't use illegal software, I can see no reason why this should be happening. I'm running Yosemite, latest updates always applied.

Tempted to perform a clean install and see if that works. I'd book an appointment but with Christmas so close no shops are accepting bookings and the phone proved useless.

Just thought I should test with an external keyboard to see if that also has the same issue. I'll do that.

MacBook Pro :: Default Keys On Apple Keyboard?

Apr 10, 2012

I reset my Apple keyboard (I use a keyboard and monitor at home connected to the macbookpro) and now when I try to change the volume justing F11 or F12, I get the desktop....or something else. How do you reset the defaults if the default keys aren't the default now? I mean, I looking at a key that shows a volume symbol on it, but that is not what happens. Sorry for typos, but the computer stalls for about 5 seconds every 30....

PS And the keyboard is about a year old and the "s" key has totally vanished. :-)

Hardware :: Generic Apple Keyboard Can't Register More Than 3 Keys At Once

Dec 20, 2010

I bought a generic non bluetooth apple keyboard (one of the newer models with the aluminium finish on the top) to connect to my 17" macbook pro (2010 issue if that means anything) it looks great, feels even better but I've got one major beef with it, it cannot register more than 3 key presses at once like the macbook pro keyboards or any other normal run of the mill generic keyboard can.. Has anybody ever come across this or does anyone know how to fix it?

Hardware :: Using Apple Aluminium Bluetooth Keyboard Keys?

Apr 18, 2009

A friend of mine was cleaning out his garage and found a couple of apple aluminium bluetooth keyboards (the brand new ones that don't have the number pad; model A1255 I believe). After cleaning them up and connecting them, I was happy to note that both of the keyboards work - the only problem preventing their daily use is that two keys (the white parts) are missing. I was wondering if there was any way to purchase these keys separately and install them. If so, where should I look for them and is there a difference between these white keys and those for the white macbooks?

OS X :: Function Keys On Bluetooth Apple Keyboard (aluminum)

Nov 6, 2009

I recently received a bluetooth ultra-thin keyboard to use with my laptop while I have it hooked up to it's external monitor, the only trouble is that I can't seem to get the function keys to work properly. I've managed to go in and reset the dashboard control / brightness using the keyboard pane in the system settings, but I can't seem to set the volume / media control buttons. Any ideas how to get my keyboard working properly? If it matters at all, I'm running this on a 2.4 unibody MBP.

Hardware :: Apple Wireless Keyboard Function Keys FIX

Nov 9, 2009

If anyone is experiencing problems with the function keys on the new aluminum wireless keyboard, I have found a fix. Download and install the Wireless Mouse Software Update from Apple's support page.

Or rather I'll provide you with direct links: 10.5 Leopard: [URL]
10.6 Snow Leopard: [URL]

Download those, restart your computer and WHAM you'll have a bluetooth ultra thin keyboard with functions buttons that actually work. THE ISSUE: For some reason Apple computers recognize the new Aluminum keyboard as the old white keyboard. I discovered this by turning on keyboard viewer and realizing that the keyboard represented on screen had a numpad while mine did not. Supposedly Snow Leopard has an update already which recognizes this, however, we have all found that to be false. Install the mouse update and it'll all work out.

MacBook Air :: Alternative To Missing Keys On Apple Keyboard?

May 31, 2012

I came from the MS Windows PC. I love everything about the Macbook Air and the Apple OS; however, I get used to the Delete, End, and Home buttons. Is there a way on the Apple keyboard that I can simulate these functions? With these buttons, I can easily move to the end or start of a sentence for word process editing. I can delete from the right side of the sentence instead of using the arrow on the Apple keyboard to move it to the right and then use the Delete (which is really a Backspace key) to delete the word.

Intel Mac :: Volume Keys Not Working On Apple 10-key Keyboard?

Jun 1, 2012

After the cat spilled a glass of water on my wireless keyboard I had to get a new one. I asked the folks at my local Apple store both over the phone and in person if the 10-key keyboard (non-wireless) they were going to sell me was compatible with Mac OS X version 10.5.8 (I think I'm Leopard) and they assured me it was. When I hit the volume keys, it initially used the assigned function of the F10, F11, and F12 keys (manipulated the windows and dashboard). I removed those key assignments through system preferences but now the volume keys do absolutely nothing. I tried looking for volume controls through the assignments but couldn't even find them to assign the F10, F11 and F12 keys to them.

Power Mac :: Assign Brightness To Function Keys On New Apple Keyboard In 10.3.9 Using Spark V2.1.1?

Mar 19, 2012

Following on from my recent post regarding the new apple wired keyboard after very helpful feedback from people who responded to my post I decided to take the leap and purchase it!  Good news is that I am really happy with it and am glad that I got it!  Much nicer then old apple keyboard that I was using.

I also downloaded spark v. 2.1.1 which has enabled me to change the functions of Fkeys to enable to play, pause, etc... in itunes in accordance with the keyboard layout. However, there are two functions that I am having difficulty assigning which are the F1 and F2 keys which allow the decrease and increase of screen brightness. So that I can control my screen brightness using these keys.

OS X :: Keyboard Stopped Working / Restore Back To Earlier Version Of Keyboard Firmware?

Feb 28, 2008

Yesterday I had a Leopard software update which included new keyboard firmware. I did the update and the keyboard continued to function normally. This AM I booted my MacBook Pro and discovered the keyboard no longer responds to inputs. However, the MB does responds to an external USB keyboard.

Now I don't know if I have a sudden hardware problem or the MB keyboard is not working as a result of the firmware update. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Can I go back to the earlier revision of the keyboard firmware?

Hmmm - while writing this I just realized I have a bootable image of my system made a few week back on an external drive - I'll have to try it.

MacBook Pro :: Keys Suddenly Changed - How Can I Change Them Back

Jan 10, 2011

I have no idea what happened but somehow the function of some of the keys on the top row on my Macbook Pro keyboard changed. For instance the dashboard key does nothing while the F12 key now shows the dashboard, F11 shows the desktop while F9 does what F3 did before etc.

I'm certain no fluids were spilt on the keys.

After I restarted and tried to change them back to the default function in the system preferences window, nothing happened.

How can I restore the defaults?

OS X :: Mac Keyboard F-keys And Windows Through Bootcamp?

Dec 13, 2007

I tend to use alot of my F-keys in Windows through bootcamp, but certain F-keys with secondary functions on the mac keyboard such as changing the brightness or volume up and down (as an example), keep functioning when I press them.

I did shut off the secondary F-key functions in the Mac system preferences, hoping it would stay inactive when I'm in Windows. Unfortunately they still turn my brightness up and down when, let's say, I hit the F1 or F2 keys in Windows.

Does anybody know any way to shut this off in Windows? Does it have to do with any drivers installed?

OS X :: Keyboard Shortcuts And Broken Keys

Mar 2, 2009

Someone spilled something on my delete key and it was pretty sticky so I decided to take it out and clean it. After a few minutes of picking the key to get it out, it relinquished itself and I wiped it off. I then put it back on and now it simply doesn't work when I press it. Am I going to have to go to the professionals to fix it? I later did the same to my Volume Up key to see how I may have screwed up the delete key and it inevitably messed up as well. For a short time my trackpad wouldn't tap when I tapped it so I had to go into the system preferences and turn off the function of the trackpad ignoring accidental taps on the keyboard or something for it to work, so my delete key must currently be pushed down but not functioning correctly (I don't know). Then I somehow crewed up my keyboard shortcuts and now some functions work while others do nothing. On word I can use the shortcuts to save and underline, but can't use them to bold and undo. I use the latter more than the former and I don't have a clue as to why this has happened.
